Before we talk about whether food culture change or not, we first have to have some idea as to what culture is. “Culture is the behaviors and belief characteristic of a particular social, ethnic, or age group. Epidemiology from Tulane University”( Xu Xiong 2001) pointed out that Chinese and western diet culture differs due to the variation in each country's culture, custom, atmosphere, historical connotation, nutritional values as well as an economic condition factor. The difference in the food cultures is visible through analyzing the diet concept, the cooking method's difference, ingredients and cooking utensils and so forth. “During the 60s more people came to the UK from Hong Kong. Chinese food first arrived in the UK in the early 19th Century, when Chinese ex-seamen opened restaurants. The first recorded establishment was called The Chinese Restaurant, and is thought to have opened in 1908 in Piccadilly Circus, London” (BBC FOOD, 2014). When they move to another place they try to show their own food culture in many different ways and one of the ways is through open a restaurant. Most of Chinese restaurant has late opening hour, that is why westerner choose Chinese food to eat in the late night. Like what Aubrey Ko said as a research coordinator who worked on the British Chinese Food Culture project “They had a drink in a pub, they were hungry. Then they went to a takeaway Chinese restaurant still open during the night.". For preparing certain dishes from certain country, usually we need specific kitchen utensils. For examples to make a dim sum or dumpling we need bamboo steamers. When Chinese immigrant come to a western country and open the restaurant, they bring the bamboo steamers. For westerners, maybe it is something new when they see how Chinese people steam their food and because of the curiosity they will try it at home. “The effects of the crisis with regard to poverty and vulnerability in both the developed and the developing world are likely to continue for some time. For instance, the World Bank estimates that the ‘Triple F’ crisis (food, fuel and finance) will increase the number of global poor by between 53 and 64 million people in 2009” (UNICEF, 2009). The financial crisis that happens will lead to another problem like a chain. The main problem that can happen from the financial crisis is malnutrition because in this situation people will more selected on food. Because of increases in food price, people will tend to choose poor quality food and not concern about nutritive value from the food. When they choose the poor quality food that is mean, they will lack of some nutrition such as vitamins, mineral and proteins that their body needs and it can lead to malnutrition as well. malnutrition can really affect our lives in many different ways. For examples of the impact is they who get malnutrition will be unproductive because they don’t have enough energy to their daily activity and they can’t think clearly, of children it can hinder the development of their bodies. For pregnant woman, it also can cause reduced birth weight, increase the prevalence of low birth weight babies and increase maternal and child
