Understanding the drive for molestation of an individual is hard to grasp. “Sick” is the word that parents and other individuals would describe it as. An article written to provide information on victims of sexual assault stated, “Approximately 1.8 million adolescents in the United States have been the victims of sexual assault” (NSOPW). The take on the issue is a very touching subject to talk about. In the Criminal Justice System, a major problem is sex crime. Sex crimes come in different forms such as, prostitution, molestation, rape, statutory rape, possession of child pornography, aggravated sexual assault, internet sex crimes, etc. Sex crimes are defined differently by each jurisdiction, but with many of these crimes, there are borderline aspects of the crime that are the same throughout each jurisdiction. “Sex crimes generally involves illegal or coerced sexual conduct against another individual and each state has its own time limit or “statute of limitations” in which victims of sex crimes may file a lawsuit against the alleged offender. People convicted of sex crimes, regardless of severity, are considered “sex offenders”
Very often on the TV, radio and newspaper cover stories about children who are abused, abducted and even murdered, usually by strangers but it is important to know that these are not typical crimes. Sexual abusers are more likely to be people we know, and could well be people we care about; after all more than 7 out of 10 children who are sexually abused know their abuser. As a matter of fact, they are family members or friends, neighbors or babysitters and many

Childhood is supposed to be a time of discovery and play, not abuse. Was there ever such a world? Sexual predators have been lurking this planet for decades; now they're being marked for life because of there actions. Neighbors and the home towns of sexual predators are being alerted of their crimes and whereabouts by local police. Such towns have responded by putting up signs in their town, "CHILD MOLESTER TWO DOORS DOWN" (Popkin, pg 73). Others responded by burning or flooding their new neighbors out (Popkin). What did these convicted criminals do to deserve such punishment? They violated the most precious living creature on this planet, a child. Communities definitely have a right to know that a dangerous child molester is moving to their town.
The issues with society’s role about sexual offender has caused major concern amongst family, especially for those who have children. The public perception on these individuals may provoked a lot of hatred, anxiety, and fear against these offenders. It is no doubt that the media and politicians have played a major role and have been influenced in the implementation of laws in order to protect the citizens from any victimization. Sexual offenders are constantly under the spotlight by the media and are constantly scrutinized by many which can in return influence the public. According to Rachel Allsopp, one issue is that the media may report in regards to child sexual abuse that is strangers that society needs to be wary of in regards to protecting children.
More importantly, “60 percent of children who are sexually abused do not disclose and most are acquaintances but as many as 47 percent are family or extended family” (The Scope of, 2016). The prevalence of child sexual abuse is difficult to determine because it is often not reported; experts agree that the incidence is far greater than what is reported to authorities (Child Sexual Abuse, 2012). Startling statistics represent the depth of the issue. Globally, prevalence rates show that a range of 7-36% of women and 3-29% of men experience sexual abuse in childhood (The Scope of, 2016). “The U.S Department of Health and Human Services’ Children’s Bureau report child maltreatment 2010 found that 9.2% of victimized children were sexually assaulted” (Child Sexual Abuse,
People in today’s society are oblivious or naive about the common sex predators on the internet. These naive people can include parents, grandparents, adults, young adults, teens, pre teens, and children. Unfortunately this means that almost everyone at any age in todays society can be or already is oblivious to sexual predators on the internet. This is a major issue that people all over the world are dealing with and most of these people find out who and where the sex predators are hiding when they have already become victims of online abuse. The reason why victims are finding out about online sex predators too late is because they are not informed of the dangers of social media and online chat rooms. This is the main argument of my final
In the few years of discussing about crimes, there is an important fact that is not recognized by the world: Children and youth are vulnerable to be victimized than an adult can. Not just more likely to be offenders, young people are also more likely to be the victims of an abuse attack in many different ways.
