Being born and raised in Dallas, led me to learn more about SMU, as I later found that family friend’s attended. They described how great the school was, but it was not until I visited the campus when I felt the need to attend. Being a part of a city like Dallas allows me to see and collaborate for its improvements as it holds many opportunities. In high school, the academic encouragement that was provided for me, have guided me to take pride in my work and my dedication to getting things done. My education was always my top priority, as I not only learned to keep my grades high but I enjoyed the work and kept enriching my knowledge. Carrying s very popular name does not define why I want to attend SMU, as I believe a further education is
Dallas was the biggest and most recognizable cities in America. Cowboys, Dallas the TV show, the SMU mustangs and football dominated the city. In the early 80’s SMU owned the best record in the NCAA from 81 to 84. The way they got there was quite literally on the back of top recruits Craig James and Eric Dickerson as well as head coach Ron Meyer who came to the program in 1976. In 1981 behind the pony express and Ron Meyer the small private school won the DI national championship. Which is Texas was all that mattered. SMU had it all money, power and now a championship. At the end of the 1981 ten win season Ron Meyer left to take a job in the NFL. When Meyer left SMU hired Bobby Collins the former University of Southern Mississippi Coach. In 1982 Dickerson finished 3rd in Heisman voting and SMU took its share of the National Championship. Between 80 and 84 SMU wen 49-9-1 the highest winning percentage in the NCAA at that time. But in 1987 SMU was the first school to receive the NCAA “death penalty” for repeat violations. SMU was eligible for the penalty because they were put on probation for 1981 violations. The 1987 season was suspended and for nearly 20 years SMU struggled to reach a winning record and were not a respected tea...

“Ole Miss” is the school many student’s hope to attend while other’s plan to attend the University of Mississippi. The difference between the University of Mississippi and Ole Miss is well described by Frank E. Everett Jr.
Wanting to attend Archbishop Mitty High School had never been a question of mine. I aim to go far in life and I am confident that AMHS is the school that will lead me down that path. By shadowing and attending the open house, I noticed that AMHS is like a second home to its members. The positive vibe radiating through its students offers me something to look forward to and another reason to wake up in the morning and go to school. Although I wasn’t a student, I was treated as if I belonged. I enjoyed how I didn’t have to be noteworthy to be accepted. Unlike typical high school movies, I could be myself without worrying about judgmental stares. I am certain many unforgettable memories will be made.
Why should a student attend an HBCU, some may ask. Those considering attending college should attend an HBCU no matter what their race or ethnicity may be. Many people think HBCUs are only African American colleges due to what the acronym stands for, Historically Black Colleges and Universities. According to CollegeXpress, “HBCUs do primarily serve African American students, but that doesn’t mean you’re going to have a limited cultural experience. On the contrary, people from all over the world come to the United States to attend HBCUs, which results in diverse student bodies.”(1) Anyone can attend and sometimes when an individual is not black and decides to attend an HBCU, scholarships are given because they want to show that they are willing to accept anyone, regardless of their race. Some HBCUs that are listed as being the best are: Hampton University, Howard University, Morehouse College, and Spelman College, but they are just a few of many out there to attend. There are also several famous people who attended HBCUs: Jesse Jackson, Wanda Sykes, Samuel Jackson, Toni Morrison, and Oprah Winfrey. Many students that have attended an HBCU love the friendly environment, the diversity, and the knowledge gained. If a student is not financially stable, the HBCU is willing to work out payment arrangements and help out in an effort for the student to receive the education that they deserve. It appears that a large portion of those that attend Virginia Union University came because of the cultural experience or because someone in their family attended and they want to continue the legacy. There are over 100 HBCUs in the world, which include public, private, two year, and four year institutions. Most HBCUs have small class siz...
I endeavor to obtain excellence in my academics; I wish to exemplify scholarship by constantly asking the whys and hows of things. I will not let a bad grade define who I am as a student or who I will become. I also want to take the most challenging classes available, not because it will look good on my college application, but because I genuinely love the concept of learning and discovering new things. Education doesn’t end after high school, so I plan to attend university, eager to attain the knowledge to better understand my world: and expand it.
Mario Andretti once said, “Desire is the key to motivation, but it's determination and commitment to an unrelenting pursuit of your goal - a commitment to excellence - that will enable you to attain the success you seek.” Andretti’s words are as true today as when he spoke them. Everyday should be a continuous journey to get to your goal. Starting off with the right step is a major component. Therefore, I chose to apply to Stanly Early College High. I believe that I have the ability to work up to Stanly Early College standards. Determination, dedication, and desire are all qualities that I have.
One major contribution I make to Texas Tech is through my work with community service. Every Texas Tech student contributes to the university though his or her actions everyday, both on campus and off campus. I choose to contribute through my actions off campus by constantly working to serve the Lubbock community in anyway possible. Working to better impact the lives of under privileged Lubbock children, helping serve at Lubbock soup kitchens, and corresponding with national community service organizations helps me to best represent my school and my values. Every time I allot an hour or two of my time to plan or attend a community service event, the school’s name is looked upon in a positive light for shaping students who will not only
I am a very hard worker and if you review both of my college histories you will see that I don’t like to take too long through school as I know I am meant to do great things, to help so many families. I know with the superb education from Saint Joseph 's University I will be an extremely effective and able person.
Tell me about one or two of the programs you’ve been involved in at SDSU that have changed or transformed the way you see the world. Do you think they have helped you in your success?
In conclusion, my aspiration has grown due to the passionate and dedicated professors I have encountered in all of my classes so far at Minneapolis Community and Technical College. I could not see myself anywhere else but here. I have experienced the knowledge my professors bring to class, their gift of bringing my abilities out, and being able to eliminate my anxiety. I continue to remain focused and believe that I will succeed by receiving daily assurance from classmates and my professors. I do not see myself experiencing any of this, that I have experienced at Minneapolis Community and Technical College, at any other university.
The process of preparing for college is an arduous process. College is an instrument used to have a successful life. However, getting into college is difficult. The competition for college admittance is extremely high. Most students do not take the necessary actions to ensure their admittance. Consequently, many students do not get attend their ideal college. Therefore, I have taken steps to make certain that I attend the college of my choice, By taking care of my class ranking, actively participating in school functions, and researching my intended degree, I have set myself up to attend the college of my choice.
It is difficult to imagine a college bound senior making the big decision on where to attend college without the help of college rankings and family influence. Making such an important decision requires heavy research for the college bound student, and it is no surprise that college rankings are one of the first places students look for advice on their future school. Many high school seniors are concerned with the rankings, the “image”, or school pride associated with colleges. As seniors question which school is the best and strive to meet the admissions standards that seem to continually increase, it is important to question whether or not the quality of education is better at colleges with higher rankings and admissions standards. The process behind the rankings should be more exposed and by doing so, it may persuade college bound students to consider other factors that would impact their college experience. This may convince college bound students that rankings and admissions standards are not as important as they are held to be, and it would be beneficial to the students to realize that a quality education can occur at any college and not just the prestigious ones.
Transferring from a community college has opened many doors throughout my academic career. North Lake College is part of the Dallas County Community College District, located in Irving, Texas; a more conservative environment compared to Austin. After living such a drastic change in such little time I’ve been able to identify differences that are prominent in both The University of Texas at Austin (UT) and my previous school North Lake College (NLC). Through my involvement within academic life, resources and student organizations I have witnessed the different social traits unique to NLC and UT. Furthermore, I am able to evaluate these differences as a member of the
Currently I'm gaining my knowledge at Texas A&M University in San Antonio and have deemed a wonderful experience in and out of campus. It has felt like a home since the beginning specially coming from a far away city where it distinguishes itself through cultures. The staff and professors have contributed to a well guided path to success inside the classroom in my first semester of college. Not to mention, the everyday environment has evolved from day one to the present. From going through stressful experiences to experiencing snow for the very first time. In addition, I've experienced the evolvement of creating new colleague's in a diverse city. It was a thrilling experience to encounter people from different cultures and race because it opens
