The Holistic Approach of Agile Information Systems
When expressing the holistic approach of agile information systems applied to business, it becomes imperative that one addresses the specific framework toward the approach. Although, holistic in theory the specific framework for strategy itself must break down into independent strategies and examined as an ongoing whole. Take the company Amazon.com for example, their information system strategy combines the independent strategies of the framework however, they independently transpire and flow from one to another through a process of ever-changing information collaboration. In the year 2000, Amazon.com chose to provide this service to customers, which included a network of retailers through an efficient information system platform structured for e-commerce. Currently, the world’s largest retailers are involved in their ever-evolving achievement of services embracing technology, retailing, and customer service through order satisfaction. The company’s services encompass a spectrum from world merchandise leaders to small-scale merchants leveraging and incorporating an incremental sales channel for new products. In addition, they provide a platform, which allows independent software developers to build profitable applications, and services, which create an ongoing input of tradeoff analysis, and optimization, which ultimately enables the company to provide its merchants and customers an ever-expanding variety of services. Amazon.com in the aspect of agile information systems through their own innovation allows an ideal example in the explanation of strategic information systems analysis.

Lowe’s is a home improvement warehouse that was founded in 1946 as a single store and since has grown to become the second largest in the world. As technology has evolved, Lowe’s has made many advances incorporating new systems and devices to stay competitive. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the information technology management systems used at Lowe’s. In the following case analysis, I will introduce and evaluate Southwest Airlines, describe and analyze its approach to IS as outlined in “Building Business Agility at Southwest Airlines,” and provide future recommendations for the company.
It's important to realize that first and foremost Amazon.com is a technology company. Over the past years, Amazon.com grew from an online retailer into a platform on which more than 1 million active retail partners worldwide do business. Behind Amazon.com's successful evolution from retailer to technology platform is its SOA (service-oriented architecture), which broke new technological ground and proved that SOAs can deliver on their promises.
Jeff Bezo’s began Amazon in his garage in July 1995 with three Sun workstations setting on wooden doors for tables and extension cords running from everywhere (Academy of Achievement, 2010). Right from the beginning he was a visionary leaving his well paying job as a senior vice president with D. E. Shaw to begin Amazon.com (Academy of Achievement, 2010). Being the visionary that he is he saw an opportunity prompted by the huge growth rate of internet use in a single year and ran with it never looking back. Jeff realized that the internet had “no real commerce to speak of” so he began researching possible businesses (Academy of Achievement, 2010). “After reviewing 20 mail order businesses and deciding which could be conducted more efficiently over the internet than by traditional means he decided on books” (Academy of Achievement, 2010). He thought books were perfect because attempting to send huge catalogs for all the available books would be expensive and cumbersome, but an online resource database that was easy to navigate would provide customers with easy access and a single point from which to shop. “In 30 days, with no press, Amazon had sold books in all 50 states and 45 foreign countries, obviously by the success of Amazon he was right (Academy of Achievement, 2010). In a case study written by Javad Kargar called “Amazon.com in 2003” he stated that “Amazon's online store was a big hit, with about $5 million in the first year of operations” (2004). This huge success so quickly would have confirmed for Jeff that his idea was viable and drove him to continue to strive for more. Jeff Bezo’s charismatic-visionary leadership is the key to his and Amazon’s success.

Amazon has taken the idea of e-commerce and turned it into a successful and profitable business. Amazon Company developed a brilliant strategy for emerging into an already competitive market. This entails the revision of an existing concept. Unlike major companies like Apple, Microsoft that invented new products and services, Amazon did not need to create a whole new product but to create a better business model system that can be used in the future. This helped their rise to fame by taking over an existing idea but improving it to match consumer needs and wants. Overall companies will need to develop better business strategies to be able to evolve into e-commerce industry moving forward.

Originally, the company began as a website that sold books at discount prices, now Amazon.com has evolved into a marketplace for the world. Jeff Bezos, the founder and CEO, has changed the business model of the company many times. He is focused on expanding the selection of goods and services offered on the website, in an attempt to please customers. However, he is having trouble managing the priorities of his gigantic company, he should give the existing categories priority and worry about expansion at a later time.
Amazon’s customer philosophy can be traced from a letter extracted to the 1997 Annual Report that stated their focal points by offering customers products that they think is worth buying. Amazon tries to set apart their operations by suggesting extraordinary way in doing transaction and start by offering online books whereby they can get access to it anytime they want. Other value-added offers include 1-ClickSM shopping, customer’s gift certificates and immensely reviews, browsing options, content and suggested features. Amazon strategy focuses on reducing the price. Thus, increase the customer value. Amazon became the market online bookselling leader by encouraging customers repeating purchases through the advertising strategy that is proven effective which was word of mouth approach.
The SWOT analysis will help Amazon to continue its strengths, improve shortcomings, take advantage of opportunities and develop measures to deal with threats. In other word, this will help Amazon prepare adequate solutions to maintain the leading position. Through CRM, Amazon focuses on being loyal to their customers, when they are loyal to them, they figure that in return their customers would recommend others and continue to shop with them and make future purchases. Amazon makes sure that the infrastructure is taken care of so that the retention is there. When the retention is there they will continue to grow and expand their product lines so their customers will not have to take their business elsewhere. To make sure that the customer satisfaction is taken care of they live by Sic Core Values to make things happen to make sure that everything stays in order. Amazon has maintained the mission of always taking care of the customer. They currently account for tremendous distribution systems that in some way be accounted for the success the company has since it ads real value to the service they have offered.
