Construction is a trillion dollar enterprise that has been vital to the expansion of civilization over the course of history; starting with the ancient Egyptian’s great and luxurious pyramids made of limestone, up unto the modern day mammoth skyscrapers around the world today; Most of these innovations incorporate three elements: Lumber, steel, and cement; Knowing how to work and maneuver these elements into a construction venture, in a safe and resourceful way, is a monetarily beneficial asset.
For over 5 millennium man has been constructing and designing buildings. Of the earliest recorded structures the Egyptian pyramids are a great marvel, not only for their massive size but also for their attention to preciseness, every piece of limestone had to be individually cut, carried to the site then lifted and placed into the correct position ("Architecture Timeline"). The next important time in history is the Greece and Roman period, when the Romans invented the arch. This element of building is still being used today for it’s amazing strength. The Romans also incorporated bricks being used in place of stone, as well as dome roofs ("Architecture Timeline"). The new, now modern, style of building that is seen today was introduced in 1972. It incorporated historic and familiar elements from the previous architectural periods of history.
For every construction project there are strict guidelines that have to be followed in order for the structure to be legal. These guidelines are put forth by the organization named Occupational Safety and Health Administration or OSHA ("Safety Color Guide" ). OSHA has colors to coordinate where things go and how tools and materials are going to be used for specific applications. For instance, ...

... serviced, and when changing accessories, such as a drill bit, should not be plugged to a receptacle due to the possibility of the tool being turned on and injuring someone.
Tool safety is as important to the person observing the application of the tool as it is using the tool. To be safe, people observing the application should be a safe distance away and wearing protective items ("Hand and Power Tools"). When cutting something, or drilling something you shouldn’t be wearing any loose clothing, ties, or jewelry because it could be caught in the machine; also the material you are cutting or drilling should be clamped to a stable and secure surface to avoid any complication and injury ("Hand and Power Tools"). Another very important hazard to avoid would be for a worker to avoid holding their finger on the on switch button while carrying a plugged-in tool.

The history of Architecture started long time ago. The nomadic were groups of people whom move from one place to another in order find shelter and food to survive. As they progress, their techniques to survive evolve. The need for a permanent shelter became vital for a better stability of the group. This is the time when the first structures that provided protection appeared. Post and lintel were the first forms of Architecture, that satisficed the basic needs. Architecture evolved to be more sophisticated and fulfill the people’s needs. Consequently, Architecture evolved throughout different periods such as: Ancient architecture, Romanesque, The medieval, Renaissance, Early modern, and the industrial age, Modernism and Contemporary architecture. During the Medieval period a style of Architecture named Gothic Architecture was very notorious. The concept of this type of Architecture still continuous now days, in the city of Los Angeles many building have taken this concept of Gothic Architectural Style and have developed to a new level of experience and expression. Some of them have recreated in a modern way the features of the physical aspects of this style. Other structures have taken this concept beyond the physical features and used the emotional concept behind Gothic Style to connect people feelings with magnificent elements of the Cathedrals.
Throughout the years, technology has changed the way live. This has included the way we build magnificent buildings. Old wonders like the Pyramids at Giza have fascinated people for years. There is another building concept that has attracted people’s attention for ages as well, domes.
Throughout the ages, many scholars and future-scholars have offered an explanation for the meaning of structures from the ancient years, either by their placement or construction. None has fascinated or pushed scholars for reasons than structures and art of the ancient Romans, more specifically those constructed in the years of the Pax Romana and Crisis and Decline of the Roman Empire (27 BC to 284 AD).
Some of the buildings the Romans built are easily recognized today. Buildings like the Pantheon and the Coliseum are some of the biggest building every made of concrete. The Coliseum is and example of a building that was built before the Romans used concrete for all aspects of building. Parts and pieces of the Coliseum are concrete and other parts are stone and mortar. The Pantheon on the other hand, is made entirely of concrete, including the dome upon its ceiling. This dome is still the largest unsupported vaulted ceiling that exists. THE EMERGENCE OF CO...
This research paper consisted of the idea of barehanding and how to work on energized power lines. It also informs you of all the things you need to be aware of. But most importantly how to stay safe on the job. Now since you read this, next time you turn on a light switch just think about all that happens when you do so.
The engineering discoveries of ancient Rome have played a key role in the history of architecture and engineering. Many of Rome’s roadways, bridges, and aqueducts have been in use from the first century until the twentieth century. Many American buildings have used the Roman dome. Several major structures from early Rome still stand, including the Collosseum. These remnants of feats of Roman engineering stand as a monument to the ability of ancient Roman builders.
However, the success of the building schemes relied on the construction methods and innovations that are now attributed as bei...
There is a lot that can be learned from architecture from our past. Every structure had its own purpose and story of its origin. The battle at the Milvian Bridge in 312 CE was the breaking point in Constantine's quest for power. He had been proclaimed Augustus by the troops in Britain in 306 CE, after the death of his father in York, and even though he had no legal right to that title, he refused to relinquish it. Maxentius also claimed the title of Augustus of the western empire. The conflict finally resulted in the battle of the Milvian Bridge just North of Rome, when Constantine's army defeated the numerically superior, but less experienced troops of Maxentius. Maxentius fell to his death while trying to flee across the Tiber River, as a temporary bridge made of boats collapsed under him and his troops.
All the OSHA standards are listed in the CFR 1910 (general industry) and 1926 (construction) books. This can be a useful tool that can answer any questions an employee may have regarding safety. The book needs to be in an assessable location and the employees need to be given that location during the new hire orientation process. These books are very inexpensive, but they are good tools and a good quick reference to any OSHA safety regulation you need the answer for. If an employee wants to know anything about PPE or equipment safety, the CFR has the answer. I would suggest if the company does not have a copy of this book readily available for employees to look at, on a daily basis is necessary, that they buy one and educated the supervisors and managers on how to read and understand the information and standards outlined in the
Hovering above are pillars of concrete and stone. Its rise and collapse determined by history. A combination of art and science designed to create notorious architecture. The necessity for architecture is distant from extinction and continuously transforming itself with the duration of time creating innovative methods of portraying scenic and functional works of art. The Romans and Greeks established a foundation for architecture that maintains its reputation as remarkable acts of beauty.
Roman architecture was responsible for developing many different building styles and techniques and the creation of various new ones. Ancient Rome expanded quickly from a small town (founded in 753bc) situated on the Tiber River, to an empire with one fifth of the world’s population under its control. This displayed the strength that they possessed, and the control of many different cultures led to the acquisition of a range of typologies. The result of the architectural influence of other nations (mainly the Greeks and the Etruscans) led to many great masterpieces of art and building design. The Romans took many pre-existing ideals and developed them into new technologies and ways of living; architecture is just one of these developments. These newly developed technologies, such as concrete, enabled new building approaches and methods. The arch, the dome, vaults and columns, which shall be explored in further detail, were also heavily exploited in order to reach their full potential in construction. This greatly enhanced the way construction techniques were utilised and the abilities of the architects of the time. I will argue that Roman architecture brought about a new way of designing and constructing buildings which the civilisations before had not established to its full potential. Through my conclusion, one should see that Rome used and improved many pre-existing technologies which allowed many newfound techniques. This enabled them to construct buildings such as the Colosseum, with increased complexity and size.
This class has examined the various accomplishments of ancient Rome, many that have been carried on throughout time and influenced numerous cultures around the world. Amongst those accomplishments were the development of concrete and the utilization of arches. This paper will examine the Roman development of both concrete and the infamous concrete arch that is utilized in many modern day structures today.
