My Great Smoky Mountain Vacation The Great Smoky Mountains is a wonderful place to have a family vacation because of the beautiful log cabins, the downtown city life, and the historic hiking trail Alum Cave. The Great Smoky Mountains is located in Gatlinburg Tennessee. It’s named after its beautiful blue-like smoky mist that covers the mountains. It’s made up of over 500,000 acres of southern Appalachian wilderness. It’s the largest tourist park. The Great Smoky Mountains itself is absolutely breathtaking. The log cabins for example are unbelievably beautiful. Although they are somewhat expensive once you have experienced one of the Smoky Mountains cabin resorts you will see that every penny spent is worth it. the cabin the fresh smell of pine hits you like you just walked into a Christmas tree patch. The large 2 story log cabin comes with a full equipped kitchen, master size bedrooms that feature natures beautiful moments, bonus arcade room with a pool table and mini bar, and a large hot tub located outdoors on your wrap around porch. The view from the cabin allows you to see almost every mountain top and the beautiful sky glazing down the mountains like a hot glazed donut. While relaxing outside all you can smell is the nights before rainfall. The walls of the cabin are strong light colored wood and as smooth as silk. The walls feel as if they were made from the world’s finest chopped wood. The log cabins are just one of the great things the great smoky mountain has to offer. Downtown in the heart of Gatlinburg Tennessee about 5 miles from the cabin resort was filled with never ending entertainment, shopping and dining.
It looked like the largest strip mall and smelled like a carnival filled with funnel cakes and cotton candy. There were more than a days’ worth of shops and attractions to visit. Every building looked as if it were built in the 20’s and made from very old wood with unique details. They had everything from Ripley’s Believe it or Not Auditorium, Guinness World Records Museum, air brush t-shirts, the finest dining and a moonshine tasting shop where they made their own moonshine. Every corner was occupied by an attraction like a hurricane motion ride, a sky bucket lift over a mountain, a moving theater and a large water park. At night the city lite up with neon lights and bands played live music. The restaurants had roof top dining with a view overlooking the mountains and hundreds of people walking the neon lite strip. I really enjoyed the atmosphere downtown everyone was so friendly and …show more content…
welcoming. Smoky mountains is known for their historic hiking trails.
They have many to choose from. I choose to hike the Alum Cave. It had a moderate difficulty level and was about 4 miles long. Now since I have never hiked before I tried to choose one that was less as difficult as the rest. I was over excited to take on my first hiking challenge. It started out smooth sailing. I smelled the summer blooms and heard birds singing. I thought to myself this should be easy. Until the stairs became steeper and steeper and the dust from the other hikers filled my mouth. The touch of the mountain was like no other, it was rough, dry and fuzzy. The sound of the water falling from the water falls really helped me make it through cause I couldn’t wait to see what was ahead of me. Once I reached the top I was speechless. The view of the 80ft waterfall streaming down the mountain was remarkable. The air tasted so pure and fresh. I felt like I had accomplished the most challenging thing and was rewarded by nature’s beauty. Hiking is not for everyone but if you haven’t given it a try I recommend trying it at least
once. Over all my experience at the smoky mountains was great. I just wish I would have stayed a few extra days so I could have visited many more of their known land fields, but that just leads me to another planned vacation. If you like a more quite relaxing vacation then the smoky mountains is not for you but if you want to experience a vacation like no other filled with beauty, history, nature and unlimited fun then the Great Smoky Mountains is the perfect place for you. The Bullfrog Valley gang was a notorious counterfeiting ring that operated in the wilderness of Pope County during the depression of the 1890’s.The gang’s origin and and methods were mysterious, but the New York Times reported ist demise on June 28, 1897.The remote valley, which follows Big Piney Creek from Long Pool to Booger Hollow, was named for Chief Bullfrog, a Cherokee Who, according to legend, settled there after his tribe’s forced removal from Georgia (the Trail of Tears by the Indian Removal Act of 1830. The Bullfrog Valley, an unincorporated community not typically recognized on current Arkansas state maps, is located along the Big Piney Creek near the community of Silex. There have been guests who complain that the food is overpriced and I will admit that paying $19.99 for a breakfast buffet is a little steep. However, I must also point out that no one is obligated to buy food at the resort. Guests are free to bring in their own food and drinks with no hassle from the staff. That is an added perk that cannot be overlooked.
To add to the difficulty of the trails is the extreme elevation changes. The re are ironically enough thirteen climbs which result in more than 10,000 feet of climb per loop. This is obviously accompanied by an equal amount of descent. One runner described it as climbing 100 floors of stairs in your first mile, going back down on second mile and continuing this for twenty miles. The course amasses an average grade of over 20% and between 50 and near 100 percent grade on the abandoned trails and bushwhacking sections. The grade is the reason that the trails have been abandoned or not built in the first pace. Each climb bears a unique name which in many cases gives a good idea of their nature.
Entertainment in the area is targeted at a wide variety of age groups and interests that include some of East Tennessee State University students. Gatlinburg has many attractions such as Camp Thunder Fun Center, Fun Mountain, and Ober Gatlinburg. Camp Thunder, located on the main parkway, offers indoor go-karts, miniature golf, and a motion simulator. All these attractions cost $6.45 (http://www.smokymountainfun.com/camp.htm). Fun Mountain also has go-karts, but in addition it offers bumper cars, a chair lift, and places to eat. Fun Mountain is a good location for families with children, and it is conveniently located at the main intersection in Gatlinburg (http://www.reaganresorts.com/funmnt.htm). Ober Gatlinburg, one of Gatlinburg’s well-known attractions, offers skiing, ice-skating, an arcade, a Velcro wall, and bungee jumping (http://www.obergatlinburg.com). Ober Gatlinburg is placed on top of a mountain, but there is a tram that you can take from downtown near the end of the city.

There are 765 Wilderness areas in the United States, one of which being the John-Krebs Wilderness. The John-Krebs Wilderness is one of the smaller Wilderness areas with just below 40,000 acres, and it is located in California. This Wilderness was named after John Hans Krebs, a former congressman of California who was an activist in protecting land. The John-Krebs Wilderness contains a sweeping landscape of mountains, canyons, meadows, lakes, rushing rivers, giant Sequoia trees, and incredible diversity in vegetation. Throughout the low-elevated areas there are drought-resistant chaparral and a blue oak woodlands blanket. In the higher-elevated areas you can find mountain summits and alpine lakes, which are on the eastern boundary of the Wilderness.
Gatlinburg, Tennessee is located in Sevier County, situated on the northern edge of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The city has gotten the suitable nickname “Gateway to the Smokey Mountains” due to the fact that it sits at one of the two main entrances to the park serviced by one main road through the park. Today, Gatlinburg is seen as a scenic, romantic, getaway that is also bustling with tourism and even an amusement park; however, this was not always the case.
Appalachia is a 205,000-square-mile region that follows the spine of the Appalachian Mountains stretching from southern New York to northern Mississippi. It is home to more than 25 million people.

Since the 1920s and 1930s the importance of the tourist industry began to grow and it is still one of the most important sources of income of Arizona. The mountains in the northern and central regions of the state have 1,286,900 hectares of commercial forests. These forests are owned by the U.S. government for 95% and are used for lumber and building-materials industries. The state forests and the national forests attract millions of tourists each year. Other famous tourist spots are the Grand Canyon, the Painted Desert, the Petrified Forest, meteor craters, ancient Native American ruins, the Spanish colonial ruins and the Navajo and Hopi reservations. Golf courses and other leisure facilities attract a large amount of tourists as well.
A volcano is a large hill, with a crater or vent for lava to flow through. Volcanoes can have a lifespan of a couple months to a couple million years. Just like the Grand Canyon, the Little Grand Canyon is magnificent and people from all over come to visit. However, the government does not want to make the Little Grand Canyon a national park, I am against this decision. The Little Grand Canyon has all varieties of plants and animals that people can see. I think they should make a national park because of the wildlife, education, and tourism.
