Context: During this time, Nick is at Gatsby’s party with Jordan Baker talking to the host of the party that he has no clue is Gatsby. This whole time he was trying to find Gatsby, but was talking to him without even realizing it. Once he came to the conclusion of who he was talking to, Nick picks up on the first impression and thoughts that he has of Gatsby. As he spent his whole life chasing Daisy, this was the first time that he got to spend time with her which he was very nervous about.
