It was a dark gloomy night at the Ole Cabin in Kentucky. Four friends were having their own camping trip in the woods at Ole’s Cabin. Little did they know the Ole cabin was abandoned for decades. They say about five years ago, five campers were killed that night in the cabin but that was just a silly story that has been going around these years. RJ, Amy, MJ, and Louis started preparing their bed to go to sleep after their long journey from Canada. The Cabin has five rooms; four of them were bedrooms and one was the living room. Before RJ went to the door to his room; he bumped into the tall pillar and a shiny object fell into his backpack without him realizing it. The lights were out when the five friends decided to call it a night. Amy was still awake and couldn’t go to sleep. She went to get a water bottle from the living room. All of a sudden Amy started to scream. RJ, MJ, and Louis came out of their rooms and saw Amy screaming in fear. “What’s wrong Amy?” said Emma. Amy pointed at the wooden entrance door. On the door there was a writing written in blood. “Put back the turtle…” ...
Betrayal is being disloyal to others and even oneself, therefore betrayal can cause many emotional fallouts and baggage within relationships. In the story, The World on the Turtle's Back, betrayal is a huge factor in how the story plays out, as it is in the song The Letter by Kehlani, Genesis 4:1-16, and Matthew 26:14-16 . Three ways in which betrayal is portrayed in the story, the song, and the Bible is by the actions people take to one another, disconnections in relationships that lead to betrayal, and emotional baggage.
Native American myths are passed down from generation to generation. They change slightly as they are retold so there are different versions; however, they still have the same story line and outcome. Native American myths have many similarities; for example, there are almost always animals in Native American myths. Native American myths also involve nature and many earthly things, such as trees, plants, crops, sky, wind, etc. They also believe there are many different gods, goddesses, and spirits that are in some myths as well.
Animals and objects often function as a stand in for human kind, especially in literature. Authors’ repeatedly use them to draw reference and explain different characteristics, emotion, and situations of inhumanity. In The Grapes of Wrath, Steinbeck used the turtle to illiterate the journey of a lot of people during the 1930’s to 1940’s. During the period the dust bowl, a series of relentless wind storms and drought, was caused by improper methods of farming that would help prevent erosion. Families were compelled to leave their farms to find work because of the drought and dust storms had left many homeless. Many people experienced the pain of their mortgages foreclosed by banks. Families would pack up the automobiles and head across the country. As the automobile transformed into a more accessible form of transportation it became a saving grace for many of the agricultural farm workers in search a new beginning. The turtle and the automobile both literally and figuratively crossed paths and had a small but somewhat significant impact on each other.
Strange things began to happen the next couple days. First, Joey was in the living room of Grandma’s house making a jig saw puzzle. He heard the sound of a horses hooves walking slowly on the street then the sound stopped in front of the house and heard someone put something in Grandma’s mail box. Joey heard the horse walk away and a little while later Grandma’s mailbox blew up. Next, Ms. Wilcox’s outhouse was destroyed by a cherry bomb. Biodiversity is the variation and amount of species across the globe, or within in a specific geographical habitat. There are three different areas of study within biodiversity; ecological diversity, species diversity and, genetic diversity. Science Book Species diversity is the variety of different organisms and relationships within a specific species, this essay will discuss the declining of species diversity among sea turtles and the implications it has on the worldwide seas. I have chosen to research about the topic because, sea turtles are believed to have been alive during the Jurassic period. However, now all seven sea turtle species are critically endangered or vulnerable, due to human activities such as; commercial fishing, bycatch and, climate change. (WWF, OCEANA, ACTIONBIOSCI)
Looking around the abandoned cottage, I spotted a lantern next to the door hanging on a hook. I took out my lighter and lit it up, grabbing it off the hook. I held it in front of me at a distance so I could the rest of the room. It was a ugly green colored room, the wallpaper was peeling off the wall; most of it had already come off. The furniture covered in plastic.
It was Sunday October 8th about 8:45pm, when Daniel “Peg Leg” Sullivan went to visit the O’Learys’ house only to find out they were asleep. So Sullivan walked across the street to Thomas White’s house and sat down to lean against the fence. The wind was very strong that night and there was a party at the McLaughlin’s to celebrate the arrival of a relative from Ireland. Sullivan decided to go home when he noticed a fire in the O’Learys’ barn. He started shouting, “FIRE!” as loud as he could and ran to the barn to save the five cows, horse, and calf inside. As he did, his peg leg got stuck in the floorboards. He hung onto the calf as they made their way out (13, 14,15).
What does one think of when the word “turtle” is mentioned? This adorable creature is usually thought of as slow, futile, and the unsung hero of “The Tortoise and Hare.” However, Kay Ryan argues in her poem “Turtle” that turtles are more than just these things: they are strong but unfortunate creatures that must put up with many obstacles in order to survive. Despite the struggles that she faces, the turtle exhibits a multitude of different strengths to overcome them, as seen as the poem progresses.
It was an old abandoned hotel. The rickety building was barely kept up by the rotting wood pillars. A sign nailed on front read “Mortimer’s Inn.” As he walked in, Alexis noticed the cobwebs hanging on the bookshelves. Nervously, he crept forward. A broken wooden door was kicked in with a faint red stain on it. Alexis kept on going. Soon, he came to a very narrow corridor that opened into a room. It was very grand, with many dining tables and a massive stage with something on it. With a gun in hand, he sprinted forward to the stage where he saw the bodies.
Fresh Water turtles are small, yet amazing creatures to have and care for in your home. River Cooters, Red Eared Sliders, and Painted turtles are all common pet’s found in America. Though turtles are fun to have around they do require special care just like any other pet would. In most cases they make great pets but turtles aren’t the easiest pets to have so depending on your lifestyle you should think about how much time you’re willing to put into a turtle. They are usually cheap to buy yet the equipment for your turtle can get expensive. Along with cost you must find the time to put into this pet. They need nice set ups to live in as well as attention and proper handling.
11:14 p.m.-I slowly ascend from my small wooden chair, and throw another blank sheet of paper on the already covered desk as I make my way to the door. Almost instantaneously I feel wiped of all energy and for a brief second that small bed, which I often complain of, looks homey and very welcoming. I shrug off the tiredness and sluggishly drag my feet behind me those few brief steps. Eyes blurry from weariness, I focus on a now bare area of my door which had previously been covered by a picture of something that was once funny or memorable, but now I can't seem to remember what it was. Either way, it's gone now and with pathetic intentions of finishing my homework I go to close the door. I take a peek down the hall just to assure myself one final time that there is nothing I would rather be doing and when there is nothing worth investigating, aside from a few laughs a couple rooms down, I continue to shut the door.
The darkness of her bedroom crept into her body. As time progressed the sounds of the evening grew louder leaving her in a state of fear. Amongst the dark room she would see the shadow of someone standing outside her bedroom window. She didn’t know why someone would want to hurt her. Afraid to tell her parents she found refuge underneath the sheets of her bed. After several sleepless nights she spoke to her mother about the mysterious person outside her window. Her mother shrugged it off and told her that no one was there and not to worry. Her mother believed that this was either her imagination or eating too close to her bedtime. However, Elyn was determined to catch this mysterious man. Next, she enlisted the help of her brother Warren. Frightened they hid in the closet waiting to capture the bandit. Unfortunately, this heroic attempt was unsuccessful as the bandit never revealed himself to anyone but her. Soon it became apparent to everyone that no one was outside her window. But, these feelings of a watchful eye never fled her. As a result, Elyn spent many nights terrified underneath her sheets only falling a sleeping from
One night, one kid snuck out at midnight to go over to his friend’s house. His name is James. The fastest way to get to his friend’s house was going through “Screaming Woods.” So, James ran across the street and down the trail, and then he saw the sign “Screaming Woods.” Before James went in the woods, he started to feel kind of scared to go through the woods at night alone, because he had heard stories from friends about people coming out of the woods, claiming they saw a weird creature. When they came out, they were never the same person, and some people came in and never came out. Then James thought for a second, and made the choice of swallowing his fear and going into the woods at night, alone, to get to his friend’s house. About ten minutes later, James was about halfway through the woods; Then, in the still, quiet darkness, he heard a sound. James was freaking out and trying to keep calm. He waited a minute and started walking again. About three minutes later, he saw a creature with big green glowing eyes. He panicked, so he dropped on the ground and laid there quietly, hoping that whatever he saw would leave. But James was out of luck. He could hear it getting closer, and then the thing grabbed him. The thing lifted him up with its long, sharp, razor pointed fingers. A million thoughts crossed his mind at that moment. The only thought he found, in that moment, was “I am going to die!”. About one minute later James last words were, “Help me God, Please tell my parents I love them!” After those words James’ corpse was being devoured...
Frustrated with the way the day was going, we decided to go inside, get some refreshments, and brainstorm to try to find something that would hold our attention for longer than half an hour. During the middle of our brainstorming session, a family friend of the Locke’s came over. He and his kids had just caught some soft-shelled turtles out at his family’s rock quarry. Intrigued, we decided to make a trip out there in attempt to find some turtles of our own. So five of us piled into the 1980’s rusty jeep with no doors and no roof and drove a few miles to the rock quarry.
There was an impending doom coming to the small town of Calamity. Unbeknownst to the citizens it would come firstly upon a church on the outskirts of a town. A few people were inside as the doom came closer. Preacher Tom was the first one in the church to sees what would haunt the town and was scared out of his wits. He pushes a young woman out of the doorway as he speeds into the church. He continues to bar the door and close up all of the windows as the surprised group stares on at him with suspicion. He dropped to his knees and prayed as a loud noise echoed through the building. The crowd began to scream as the windows rattled and the building swayed. All of a sudden, a whimper could be heard from the back side of the building. The sound was unmistakable, it was the tiny voice of little Lisa Cunningham. Mrs. Hamm hobbled quickly over to the door before anyone else could react. She threw the door open as Father Ted finally came to his senses. Lisa flung herself through the door into the arms of Mrs. Hamm. Father Ted lunged for the door and slammed his shoulder into it right before an unknown force bashed against the other side. Mrs. Hamm grasped the child as and attempted to console her as a sharp pain erupted in her breast. She looked down and saw a dark stain growing on her blue dress and jerked the child away. Everyone’s eyes went wide as they saw the scene unfolding before them. Lisa stood smiling; face covered in blood, and began to laugh hysterically. Mrs. Hamm was becoming hysterical as well, as she noticed that one side of her chest had become smaller than the other as a huge chunk had been bitten away by the child.
