The Future is here
The idea of being able to choose the gender of a child has not always been around. This controversy did not come about until recently because now we have the technology to perform this act of sex determination. Some say that we should be able to choose the gender of our children. However, other people think that we shouldn’t be able to because they say that it is experimenting with nature. Also, that it is unnatural. I used to think the way of the second viewpoint, but not anymore. There is absolutely nothing wrong with couples being able to choose whether they want to have a baby girl or a boy.
According to an article in Newsweek called The Brave New World of Sex Selection by Thomas Hayden, this is possible. The article states how it is done. To do this, scientists measure DNA in sperm cells and pass the millions of them through a tiny tube in a single file. They then separate the “girl sperm” from the “boy sperm”. They can tell the difference because “girl sperm” has more DNA. The separated sperm cells are then used, one or the other, to impregnate a woman to have a girl or a boy. In a study, fifteen out of seventeen women with the “girl sperm” had girls. Getting the Girl by Lisa Bellkin, an article in the New York Times Magazine, states a 93% success rate.
Some mothers might only want a girl when others might want a boy. If a couple has a strong opinion that one sex is easier to raise over the other, such as a boy, they might not want the hardship of trying to raise a girl. A family could also want a boy to carry on the family name.
In my opinion, I would go through this process to have a girl. I think that since obviously I am a girl, I could do a better job of raising a girl than a boy. A parent could think that they know more about one sex than the other and choose to raise that sex.
Another reason that I think people should be able to choose the gender of their child is because if you already have three boys in your house, it could be time for a change.
Powerful. Representative. Influential. These are some of the various words that are utilized to describe how political parties have been and continue to be a dominating force in American politics. Political parties have established organization throughout society by creating a two party system, the Democrats and the Republicans, within institutions as well as the general public. Over the years, political parties have been an essential aspect of American politics and have given American citizens an opportunity to express their opinions. Political parties provide all eligible citizens the opportunity to participate in politics by selecting a party that best defines and implements their views. In addition, political parties play an important role in educating American citizens and encouraging them to vote. Political parties also allow America to sustain a democratic form of government, in which the people have a voice that matters. The formation of political parties has contributed to America becoming a democracy and has helped to ensure that America does not develop into a dictatorship. Therefore, political parties are beneficial for American politics and have a positive impact on society by uniting and organizing Americans with similar political viewpoints, mobilizing voters, and striving to maintain a democracy to protect America from a dictatorship.
A gynaecologist can easily perform an ultrasound and tell parents what gender to expect their child to be. Reasonably, parents have the choice to learn the gender or to keep it a surprise. However, For parents to know they are expecting a daughter by chance or for them to choose that they want a daughter are two different cases. There are a variety of methods that allow parents to choose the gender of their child. In some cases, there may be fear of passing down a sex-linked genetic disease and so a certain gender may be preferred to protect the child’s health. However, a contentious issue is whether or not gender selection for non-medical reasons is ethically defensible. There are three positions that one could take: gender selection can never, sometimes, or always be ethically defended. In this paper, I intend to argue that gender selection is always permissible.
Political parties have been around since almost the beginning of this great country. Although George Washington strongly opposed political parties, and also warned the nation to stay away from forming political parties, the first political parties were formed right under his own nose. In George Washington’s cabinet was where the first parties started. The cause of these parties was simply differences in views. The thought of leaders of these two completely different parties was Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton. Jefferson started what then was known of as Republican or the Anti-Federalist. On the other hand Hamilton started what was known of as the Federalist Party. Both of these parties formed in the seventeen hundreds. These two parties have evolved into today being known as the Democratic, and the Republican parties. On the contrary one of the largest third party groups, the tea party was formed just recently in the year two thousand and nine. All three of these political parties effect our government today.
When it comes to abortion I believe that it should always be left up to the woman to make the decision on whether to keep her baby or not. Having a baby is no eas...

People say that a child needs both a male and a female figure in their life to psychologically develop properly but;
They should not be confined by gender binarism. As stated by Allison Hope, a writer for the Huffington Post, “we live in such a deeply gendered society that our kids have no fighting chance when it comes to freedom of gender expression.” People always tell their kids to be whatever they want to be, but they never tell them that they can be whoever they want to be. The solution for this is to “raze the binary gender system entirely” (Hope). If binarism is eliminated from society, people will finally have the ability to be who they truly desire to be. Gender fluidity allows people to not only identify however they want, but it helps people figure more information about themselves that they might not have known before. For some people, gender identity can be a sort of trial and error. According to German Lopez, a reporter for “Vox Media,” “there’s nothing wrong with taking a label for gender and finding out it doesn’t work for you.” People can go through all 63 gender identities until they find which one fits them the best. No two people are the same, which is why gender binarism should not exist. One cannot be entirely masculine, and one cannot be entirely feminine. That person will always have characteristics from each category, which is why “everyone, really, is non-binary” (Freeman). No one will ever be a perfect man or
The current U.S. federal minimum wage for untipped workers is currently $7.25 an hour, as it has been since 2009. At this rate, a full time employee would earn an annual salary of $15,080, meaning that a family of two people, for example a single working mother with one child, working a full time minimum wage job, would sit below the federal poverty line of $15,730 for two people (2014 Poverty Guidelines). While it is true that there are tax breaks such as those for children, and the Earned Income Tax that exist to help such people living in poverty, the fact exists that the wages in the US have not kept up with inflation and the cost of living. While the value of the federal minimum wage has risen 21% since 1990, the cost of living itself has risen 67% (Gilson). Opponents are quick to argue that only unskilled workers are paid minimum wag...
There is an undeniable truth, in today’s world, that technology has changed our lives and traditional beliefs that most of people have had difficulty in getting used to that. One of the most questionable changes the technology has given rise to is recently gender selection. It’s been argued for so long whether it is ethical and its possible effects upon societies. Some say it is unethical on the grounds that we interfere with a God’s job that we don’t have a right upon it but with this saying, some important points of these issues are ignored such as reaching a goal which has been wished to come true or possible positive psychological impacts of this opportunity on a family. It, actually, brings about a question in most of people’s mind that would you rather be a person who has never reached your goal which you’ve wished to come true most because some alleged authoritarians took this opportunity away from you ? Some say gender selection is not ethical but is taking right of reaching whatever was aimed by parents away really ethical ? Some people are really biased about sex selection by those alleged authoritarians who have power to inject their intentions to people and they have showed the possible dangers of this issue to the traditional habits as an excuse. They also cast the rest wishing this opportunity to be enacted out of their mind, shortly they ignore them. However, this opportunity should be permissible because of the cruciality in a family with respect to choosing the sex of their babies according to their own standard and happiness of achieving what has been wished to reach in families and taking advantage of this opportunity in a way of medical purposes.
Stating the obvious, no one can choose the gender they are born with. It is possible to change genders through extensive surgery once you are older, but you cannot choose how you are born. Maybe one day there will be the technology and science that provides that possibility, but today it does not exist. It is no new topic, but government mandated health care is something to be addressed. Though people’s opinions go back and forth and there is no leading side, many people have heard of the topic of government mandated birth control. The main argument in support of this is the question of why women should have to pay for something out of their control, while men do not.
Political parties in the United States, just like any other country has been in existence for many years, probably since the late 1700s. In definition, a political party is a legally organized group of individuals or people who have similar opinions and control the governing of a country. Long before political parties in America came about, there had been indifference concerning the existence of political parties, but today, Political parties are a vital constituent of a democracy. They provide a means through which individuals in America can express themselves and their voices can be heard. It can also be seen as a link between the people and the government. Political parties thereby have important roles which they carry out such as nominating candidates, help in the formation of public opinions, organizing the government and much more.
It feels like that’s all there is and there isn’t anymore. You’re either a boy or a girl and that’s how your parents raised you. The gender role as a male or female is just the “natural” way of doing things. If anyone diverges from their assigned role, it is considered unnatural and even immoral by many. I agree with Devor’s opinion that gender roles are taught at such an early age before the child can even realize that they don’t have to follow these societal norms. I am not saying that a person should be able to choose if they are male or female, one should just accept who you are and what gender you were born with. My point is that you should be able to choose your behavior as a male or female. Individuals should be able to decide for themselves if they want to be more masculine or feminine regardless of their genders. In addition, their parents should be supportive of their choices despite of what seems “natural” according to
All things considered, abortion will always be a controversial issue in which there will always be a debate on; however, it is crucial for women to have other options rather than to only be able to have children that they cannot afford, or to allow more children to be placed in an adoption system that can essentially prevent them from having a full and happy life. It is atrocious to keep forcing people to endure unwanted pregnancies that may cause them to turn to unsafe abortion methods if their reproductive rights are abolished.
Determining whether to divulge the gender of a child should be a personal choice. Society should not dictate whether one chooses to disclose the sex of their child. At conception, the gender is determined by chromosome characteristics and it will be the male (male semen) that dictates whether the baby will be a boy or girl. Nowhere in any literature that has been read or published that it states that “society” is the determining factor whether a girl or boy will be conceived. Society suggests that knowing the gender is routine, but what may be considered routine for some is not necessarily customary for all. If one chooses to stray away from what is considered to be “normal” it poses or present an issue. Individuals are instantaneously met with opposition or back lash due to nondisclosure of the sex of their child whether it is unborn or born. A typical argument would be as to what color clothing to bring for the unborn or born child, should one bring pink or blu...
Fifty years ago, the typical American family included a mother, father and their children. However today, “One in every four children in the United States are being raised by a single parent. Experts point to a variety of factors to explain the high US figure including a cultural shift toward greater acceptance of single parent rearing.”(Armario). As these numbers continue to rise due to modern day ideas and the increasing divorce rate, the children of single parents struggle. “Today 41% of all births were to unmarried women.”(Hymowitz). Single parent families have a detrimental effect on the psychological development of children because single parent families lack financial stability and quality parenting, in addition to lacking a stress free environment.
