The Ford 427 FE model engine was intentionally made for drag racing. The frame is large but,light weigh for a better performance. It weights between 120 and 195 pounds depending on the materials it is constructed of. The rear end is lifted for better air flow( super motor sports ) .The engine is present in Thunderbolt, Galaxy, and Fair lane ( ford motor Co ) This engine has the ability to reach a speed of 185 miles per hour. It also has overhead cams causing the engine to move faster. It would have cost around 10,000 dollars at the most expensive and 20,000 dollars the the lower end. Production began on the engine in the early 1960's. The 427 FE engine was in military and U.S. NAVY SEALS boats ( super motor sports). And had a thin wall with a casting technique and ford's Co. wanted to lighten all of their engines as much as possible. The FE engine weighed about 650 lb. before ford reduced the weigh then it was about 600 lb. But all other competing car Co. engines weigh over 700 lb. This requires the engine to have a state-of-the-art coolant system. Big tunnels through the perimeter of the engine allows coolant to flow all around the motor at all times and keep the engine cool. The radiator is also much thicker from the factory, and is angled at 45 degrees in the engine bay to maximize air flow.
