We do not live in a post-racial America. Racism is a huge factor of which most careers are being affected in. There is a new way of casting actors now, which is colorblind casting. It is a practice of casting a role without considering an individuals ethnicity. However, that does not always work and can sometimes be looked in a bad way. It has plenty of controversy leading towards whether it work for people of color or not. A solution to this problem is obviously to make television media more diverse but, how so? Producers as well as directors need to consider color conscious casting and make an effort to have each individual ethnic group feel it is a diver and non-biased casting. However, I came to the realization that it still tends to become biased. Marcus experienced having to decide who fit the perfect role, he told his co workers that a person of color he had chosen would be a perfect match. He was obviously angered but was convinced of how things were decided. They told him the person did not “Fit the target demographic of the brand.” Marcus claims, “For better or worse, advertisers, keen on securing any advantage they can to make their product stand out, target products to racial groups. This usually means hiring members of those groups to play the product’s consumers.” (Marcus). He also explains that this often occurs within films and plays. However, if a person of color did not fit the targeted demographic brand does that mean what they are selling to consumers is not good enough for those of a different racial group? There are many things to consider when it comes to colorblind casting. People agree with sometimes race matters for casting and it does matte if and only when it is a cultured role. An advertising company should acknowledge that a brand being sold should not identify itself by one social and ethnic group. Never the less, all ethnic group can fit any demographic brand; it only takes a good actor to fill in that spot not the persons
