Being in a car crash isn’t an experience you want to go through. Accidents often happen, they don’t happen by choice most of the time. Thousands of people die each year due to car crashes. Accidents are caused by multiple reasons most of which drivers are responsible for. From simple distractions like the phone to people driving under the influence accidents occur. Today I will describe events that happened to me that made me feel thankful for being alive. The one car crash that I was a part of that changed my life. This accident happened back in 2014. It was a sunny Sunday; I remember feeling an intense heat in the atmosphere. I was hanging out with two friends while driving through the city, sitting at the passenger seat. Literally a second before the car impacted us I heard my friend who was sitting in the back screaming ‘watch out’. Instantly my whole vision starts spinning while my mind is blank. A strong noise is heard at the exact moment of the impact. We end up at the opposite side of the avenue, crashing to a house driveway park. I was the first one to be conscious again. As soon as the car stops spinning try to wake up my driver friend by shaking his head. There’s blood coming out of his nose and he doesn’t wake up. I stormed out of the car and tried to open the car’s back door to see my other friend who was at the back. He is conscious but confused. I felt a metallic taste in my mouth. I then touched my mouth to check and it was blood, looks like I might have bitten my tongue when the impact took place.
We could smell the smoke coming out of the car motor. Then G and I proceeded to get out our other friend who was driving. He is not conscious yet and has his mouth covered in blood. Between us two we get him out and starting walking opposite the car direction in case it explodes. Black and grey smoke in the air as blood covered our clothes. The person from the other car made it out okay and went to help us while calling 911. I could feel my neck sore and pain all over my back. Paramedics came and got my friend to the hospital, he survived in one piece like the rest of us, he just had a minor
Commonly, vehicular collisions are considered a negative occurrence. Dave Eggers hints towards this mindset in his short story Accident. Plotted in the middle of an intersection in 2005, the story commences with the main character driving his automobile through the intersection and striking an older Camaro. The three teenagers in the Camaro are fine, but the main character notices all the damage he has done to their vehicle and he fears an unpleasant encounter with them. Dave Eggers uses irony throughout the situation to illustrate the main character’s relief. The characters’ involvement with the collision emphasizes Egger’s theme that no matter how unfortunate an incident, positivity can result.
In the end, of course, there is no one person or agency responsible for the accident. The accident is just that -- an accident, one of those frighteningly random events that occasionally disrupt the even flow of daily life, underscoring the innate precariousness of life, our susceptibility to grief and loss and hurt.
After the incident, I began doing some research on teenage car accidents at the advice of the officer who had responded to the scene. What I read about and learned was frightening. In 2008 over three thousand teen deaths occurred, either as a passenger or driver in a ...
“In the front seat was Gregg, driving, Sarah, in the middle, and Robyn, on the passenger side. In the rear seat was Jeff, behind the driver, Haley, in the middle, and Rachel, on the passenger side. EVERYONE was wearing their SEAT BELTS, as is our family habit. EVERYONE walked away from this accident with only bruises. The only blood was Robyn had small nicks from glass in a couple of places on her right arm and right leg.
I was thrown at the door and my heard a crunch to my right, but felt no pain because my whole body was numb to death. I tried to grab something I couldn’t move. I told myself calm down, calm down, calm down but my body and brain were frozen.
Progressively there are more accidents happening every year as a result of drunk driving, and these drunk drivers should be greatly penalized, if you drive hammered you should get nailed! Every 22 minutes, someone will die in an alcohol-related traffic accident. ...ticed an improvement in my driving, and I also learned that no one is as in control as they think they are. The story of the Dingmore family motivated me to take a serious look at my driving habits and make others aware of the dangers of driving while distracted. No one is indestructible, and it is better to be safe than sorry because a life is something none of us can ever get back. This was a valuable, important learning experience because it presented an opportunity for prevention and safety. I will continue to prevent and limit distractions because focused driving can be the difference between keeping and losing a life.
In May 1972, Lily Gray and her 13 year-old neighbor Richard Grimshaw began their trip in Lily’s new Ford Pinto. Due to a mechanical failure, the car stalled and slowed to a stop in the middle lane of the freeway. The Pinto was then rear-ended by a car which reportedly, had been traveling at about 30 miles per hour. The collision resulted in a rear-end fire which killed Lily Gray and left Richard Grimshaw with 3rd degree burn...
“ A family of five was traveling to Florida for a family vacation when the family was suddenly struck between two semi’s. The EMT’s pronounced the whole family dead at the scene earlier that night. Disappointment, disbelief and fear filled my mind as I lye on my side, sandwiched between the cold, soft dirt and the hot, slick metal of the car. The weight of the car pressed down on the lower half of my body with monster force. It did not hurt, my body was numb. All I could feel was the car hood's mass stamping my body father and farther into the ground. My lungs felt pinched shut and air would neither enter nor escape them. My mind was buzzing. What had just happened? In the distance, on that cursed road, I saw cars driving by completely unaware of what happened, how I felt. I tried to yell but my voice was unheard. All I could do was wait. Wait for someone to help me or wait to die.
Drunk driving is extremely impactful on the lives of you and others. While drinking and driving, you are not just endangering yourself, you are also endangering the lives of others. The driver of the car does not just control the car with their hands and feet. They need their brain to function properly so that you are able to react to objects on the road quicker and control the car. If you drink then drive/ drink while driving. Alcohol affects your brain in many ways that inhibit your ability to drive. Alcohol will affect your reaction time, it slows your reflexes which decrease your ability to react to objects on the road. It affects your vision, in can impair your color perception, and night vision. It slows down the movement in the muscles in your eye causing your visual perception to change. Alcohol affects your ability to track. You will not be able to judge the position of cars ahead of you, you won’t be able to judge the
A precautious individual, I began to pedal at a slightly increased rate. Still I didn't feel as though I was in any real danger, until the car flew past me, grazing my arm. An excessant shriek erupted from the car as it grinded to a halt at the coming stop sign. Then, to my greatest horror the white lights on the rear of the car ignited......the car was going in reverse.
“The one thing that unites all human beings, regardless of age, gender, religion, economic status, or ethnic background, is that, deep down inside, we all believe that we are above-average drivers” -Dave Barry, comedian. The number of accidents over the last ten years have drastically increased, drivers are paying less attention to the road itself. Many individuals behind the wheel of a car believe that their driving does not affect the road conditions, however it always will. The driving habits of today are catastrophic due to the reasoning that the driving will affect other lives through reckless or distracted driving, and disobeying traffic laws.
Last year I got involved in a massive car accident. It was the most terrified part of life. It was the moment. I will never forget in my whole life. Before, I never realized how people really feel when a car accident happens. But,after this car accident I know what really it felt like. It was the moment. My mind was totally feared of driving. I was crushed by the hot metal and cold dirt of car. I was not feeling my arm,my body was numbed. It was felt like my lower body pressed down with monster force. All I could feel was the noise of car accident ringing in my ear.I was barely able to move my body. I was kept thinking. What my parents going to think about this? Where is my friend John? I looked through the window and saw the cars passing by
Accidents happen all the time whether we know it or not. Some could possibly be avoided and others may not. I was a young girl, who didn’t truly grasp the concept of life and death. Every time I was upset about something, I would think about ending my own life. However, through one horrifying incident, that silly thought of mine completely vanished. Thanks to that specific mishap, the way I perceived life and death has in turn, changed entirely anew.
