Introduction:
The design of simple electric generator is performed to testify three important physics concepts by three hypothesizes. Based on the transformation and conservation of energy, knowing that the total energy of an isolated system cannot change, but can be transformed from other forms. The first hypothesize is spinning the nail can lighten the bulb which can testify the basic idea of electromagnetic Induction. The second hypothesize is the number of the coils which are winded on the device is deciding factor of whether the bulb is lightened or not. This is the application of solenoid that the strength of magnetic field produced by a current is directly proportional to the number of turns in the solenoid. The third hypothesize the little bulb will be lightened after spinning the magnet at a certain speed. This one can reflect the electromagnetic induction which explain the process of transformation from magnetic force to electromotive force across a conductor. Comparative experiments are needed on testifying the second and the third hypothesizes while the first one does not need.
Materials:
Four ceramic magnets, magnet wire300ft,a miniature lamp,a piece of cardboard strip, and a large nail.
Methods:
First make the hollow-ended box. Fold it it first then tape it securely.
Use the large nail to poke a hole in the center of the box, going through both sides of the box. Widen the hole slightly, it will increase the speed of spinning.
Clamp the four magnets on both sides of the nail. Try to spin it and make sure the box is large enough for the magnets to spin freely. This will also make spinning easier as well as increase the speed.
Cut two pieces of small square from a cardboard, cram and stick them between the magnet to str...

Secondly, the difference on brightness of two operations using different speed can prove that if the same coil of wire passed through the same magnetic field but its speed or velocity is increased, the wire will cut the lines of flux at a faster rate so more induced voltage would be produced.

The first step I took was to paint all of the wood white. After that I put wallpaper on the board that I am going to nail the rat trap to. I then attached the measuring cup to the rat trap by drilling a hole in the middle of the measuring cup and then using string to attach the cup at both the drilled hole, and the hole at the bottom. Then I nailed the rat trap into the board with wallpaper. That board was then nailed into the base.

The Effect of the Number of Coils on an Electromagnet On Its Strength Aim: - To establish whether a variation in the number of coils will affect an electromagnet's strength. Scientific Knowledge -. The concept of electromagnets is fairly simple. An iron nail wrapped in a series of coils of insulated wire and then connected to a battery, will enable the nail to pick up paper clips. This is because the current emitted from the battery to the coils magnetizes the nail to the surface.
The next step involves flinging the spinner into the air and grabbing it as it descents. You should hold it with the same fingers you held it before expelling it into the air.
In New York City during the late 1880’s, a fierce battle was raging between two great innovators of the age. The combatants, Thomas Edison and Nikola Tesla, were fighting over the prize to power cities in the ever more industrial world. Thomas Edison championed his direct-current (DC) system whereas Nikola Tesla was proposing his system using alternating-current (AC). This “War of the Currents” ushered in the electrical age, from which our modern society arose. Just as the AC and DC electrical generating systems where diametrically opposed to each other; so were Nikola Tesla and Thomas Edison.
The Physics of an Electric Motor An electric motor is a device used to convert electric energy into rotational kinetic energy. There are two different types of electric motors, and each has its own use. The different types are direct current and alternating current motors. Each of these motors will be analyzed in the following steps.
His experimenting led him to creating the Tesla coil which didn’t have an iron coil transformer allowing the secondary coil to be free. Since the secondary coil wasn’t being held back it was able to vibrate to higher and higher frequencies. Which allowed it to create large amounts of electricity. By it creating this much power it has the ability to shoot lightning bolts and make electronic fields.
The phenomenon called electromagnetic induction was first noticed and investigated by Michael Faraday, in 1831. Electromagnetic induction is the production of an electromotive force (emf) in a conductor as a result of a changing magnetic field about the conductor and is a very important concept. Faraday discovered that, whenever the magnetic field about an electromagnet was made to grow and collapse by closing and opening the electric circuit of which it was a part, an electric current could be detected in a separate conductor nearby. Faraday also investigated the possibility that a current could be produced by a magnetic field being placed near a coiled wire. Just placing the magnet near the wire could not produce a current. Faraday discovered that a current could be produced in this situation only if the magnet had some velocity. The magnet could be moved in either a positive or negative direction but had to be in motion to produce any current in the wire. The current in the coil is called an induced current, because the current is brought about (or “induced”) by a changing magnetic field (Cutnell and Johnson 705). The induced current is sustained by an emf. Since a source of emf is always needed to produce a current, the coil itself behaves as if it were a source of emf. The emf is known as an induced emf. Thus, a changing magnetic field induces an emf in the coil, and the emf leads to an induced current (705). He also found that moving a conductor near a stationary permanent magnet caused a current to flow in the wire as long as it was moving as in the magnet and coiled wire set-up.
The stator is the stationary component while the rotor is the rotational component of the motor. Usually magnetic fields are created when an electric current is applied to a set of conductive wires wound together (Dixon, 2001). Magnetic fields can also be created using Permanent Magnets (PM). Electrical motors can also work as electrical generators (Correla, 1986). Electrical generators are devices capable of converting mechanical energy into electrical energy. An example would be a wind turbine which works as an electrical generator. It converts the mechanical energy of the rotating shaft caused by wind into electrical energy (Correla, 1986). The focus of this research will ...
In 1831, using his "induction ring", Faraday made one of his greatest discoveries - electromagnetic induction: the "induction" or generation of electricity in a wire by means of the electromagnetic effect of a current in another wire. The induction ring was the first electric transformer. In a second series of experiments in September he discovered magneto-electric induction: the production of a steady electric current. To do this, Faraday attached two wires through a sliding contact to a copper disc. By rotating the disc between the poles of a horseshoe magnet he obtained a continuous direct current. This was the first generator. From his experiments came devices that led to the modern electric motor, generator and transformer.

When the generated fields pass through magnetic materials which themselves contribute internal magnetic fields, ambiguities can arise about what part of the field comes from the external currents and what comes from the material itself. It is common to define another magnetic field quantity, usually called the "magnetic field strength" designated by H. It can be defined by the relationship, H = B0/μ0 = B/μ0 – M, and has the value of unambiguously designating the driving magnetic influence from external currents in a material, independent of the material's magnetic response. The relationship for B can be written in the equivalent form, B = μ0(H + M), H and M will have the same units, amperes/meter. To further distinguish B from H, B is sometimes called the magnetic flux density or the magnetic
...placing a soft metal core (commonly an iron alloy) inside a coil of wire through which electric current passes in order to produce a magnetic field. The strength and polarity of the magnetic field changes depending on the magnitude of the current flowing through the wire and the direction of the current flow. While there is sufficient flow of current, the core behaves like a magnet; however, as soon as the current stops, the magnetic properties also disappear. Modern devices that make use of electromagnets are the televisions, telephones, computers and electric motors.
