Two Hundred and thirty-seven years ago one of the most masterful documents in history was created, which is The Declaration of Independence. The Declaration of Independence expressed Thomas Jefferson’s along with the fifty-five American colonists’ vision of revolution towards independence, and a new government pronouncing rupture from Great Britain. In the document, Thomas Jefferson, the author, established that if their government fails to protect their inalienable rights to life, pursuit of happiness and liberty the people have the right to eradicate it. The Declaration of Independence was ratified declaring the United States free and independent on July 4th, 1776. This document was evidently very influentially serious and meaningful as all those men promised to, “Mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor.” Thus, the Declaration of Independence was a successful document due to Jefferson appealing most effectively through diction, syntax, literary devices and most importantly rhetoric to justify the renouncement from the British Crown. When presenting a serious issue utilizing a specific and concrete diction is essential. The Declaration of Independence includes many formal formulated sentences. In the very first paragraph, Thomas Jefferson includes a phrase with words like “necessary for one people to dissolve political bands” which formed a sense of how the people felt. Jefferson used “necessary” as a key word because its gives the impression that the colonists were determined to compel as it says. The colonies were ready to break the ties and walk on their own. Moreover, when writing of the king of Britain and his actions, Jefferson’s diction is sharp. “But when a long train of abuses and usur... ... middle of paper ... ...the Declaration of Independence happens in the introduction and towards the closing stages. “Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness,” Both “life” and “liberty” have the same beginning sound relating them as a whole. In life on should be free and do as one wants to reach contentment. Thereafter, it is stated that, “We have appealed to their native justice and magnanimity, and we have conjured them by the ties of our common kindred to disavow these usurpations, which, would inevitably interrupt our connections and correspondence.”Alliteration here is with the “c” maybe connecting it back to the colonists that they have tried many times to conciliate with the British. The implementation of clever literary devices helped give this document a very deterministic attitude, it also helped the reader visualize how gruesome the British government was towards the colonies.
