“The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime” by Mark Haddon a book based on a young boy diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, which is a developmental disorder of ongoing social communication and interacting with others. Symptoms are on a scale spectrum with different ratings. That allows a person to determine whether they have a difficult time with communicating skills, noticing someone’s emotions and or lack of social interactions. Building relationships with your child or loved one is important as it a learning experience to trust and be comfortable around others. New experiences are always a bit scary however with the right motivation you are capable to do anything, all it really takes is patience and strength.

The main character of the book is Christopher, who changed throughout his story as he traveled to London by himself to find his mother. Traveling by himself wasn’t really a big deal after while. He is very smart even though he didn’t like people all that much and loud noises. Being by yourself challenging your comfort zone isn’t terrible at all. Writing a book was a way for Christopher to expand his comfort zone. Talking about Mrs. Shear’s dog, Wellington, helped him to locate his mother, which opened his eyes to see that he was capable of many things. ASD is a disorder that is noticed at an early age of 3, that lasts a lifetime. Dealing with ASD is never an easy job, they do provide informational classes given by medical professionals. It is a lot of pressure for the parents as they are caring for that person 24/7, while juggling to work and pay bills on time.
