There are at least ten Mexican groceries in East Harlem, New York City. They vary in size and clientele. Some of them carry different services apart of grocery shopping, such as package delivery to the Southern States of Mexico, legal and tax services, translation from Mixteco to Spanish and English, and catering. My favorite shops are located in Lexington Avenue, between 103rd and 106th Street: they are big, sell products from Puebla, and have a wide diversity of tamales, traditional sweet bread and ready to go meals. Soap operas are a observed at the same time people, all women, do food shopping. These shows are in Spanish, many times Mexican produced, and tend to portray love stories that break the boundaries of racial and social class inequalities. Soñadoras, the soap opera shown in this grocery shop, was released in 1999, it narrates the lives of five women who are in love with intellectual, loving men, while being chased by former partners who work for drug trafficking companies. During their personal empowering journeys, they create sorority bonds and support networks. It is fascinating that this show is still on air in the United States, and that people watch it. Soap operas tend to perpetuate violent, unhealthy and unfair beliefs about romantic love, yet this show in specific has been praised for its portrayal of feminine friendships. All women who buy groceries in this shop know the same products, have similar cultural references and have migrated. The story is about her quiet street becoming unusually busy with police officers, and how the man who is being chased by these officers ends up being outside her front door. Through the point of view of the story, the characterization and character change of Carolee Mitchell, and the setting of the story, A Television Drama is an exciting read. The story conveys how important it is to be aware of ones surroundings, and what is happening around oneself through these elements.

The story “Woman Hollering Creek" by Sandra Cisneros describes the lives of Mexicans in a Chicago neighborhood. She depicts the life that women endure as Latino wives through her portrayal of the protagonist, Cleofilas. For Cisneros being a Mexican-American has given her a chance to see life from two different cultures. In addition, Cisneros has written the story from a woman’s perspective, illustrating the types of conflicts many women face as Latino wives. This unique paradigm allows the reader to examine the events and characters using a feminist critical perspective.

As the first major U.S. success for a Spanish language film, Como Agua Para Chocolate (Alfonso Arau, 1992) has had a major impact on Hispanic culture and the future of Hispanic cinema. This film has many implicit and explicit layers that challenge typical cultural ideals, not only in Hispanic culture, but in various cultures across the world. Based on his wife, Laura Esquivel’s novel, Arau used this film, known commonly as Like Water for Chocolate, to bring to the surface the liberation of females through the empowerment of food. Although food and cooking are often associated with the oppression and generalization of Hispanic women, Like Water for Chocolate captivates an empowering view of women using intimate and heightened cinematography of the food.

The goal for my ethnographic study is subjected to the study of the people of Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart is a place that varies from city to city, but still attracts many of the same people. Everyone knows the weird people that wear ridiculous things to do their normal routine of shopping. That is why I have chosen to do my mini ethnography one day while shopping as an insider at the local Wal-Mart in Auburn, Alabama. Wal-Mart is a large center for shopping that attracts many different types of people, while creating an environment within itself.
The struggle to find a place inside an un-welcoming America has forced the Latino to recreate one. The Latino feels out of place, torn from the womb inside of America's reality because she would rather use it than know it (Paz 226-227). In response, the Mexican women planted the seeds of home inside the corral*. These tended and potted plants became her burrow of solace and place of acceptance. In the comfort of the suns slices and underneath the orange scents, the women were free. Still the questions pounded in the rhythm of street side whispers. The outside stare thundered in pulses, you are different it said. Instead of listening she tried to instill within her children the pride of language, song, and culture. Her roots weave soul into the stubborn soil and strength grew with each blossom of the fig tree (Goldsmith).
The ethnographic study took place at McDonalds’ shop, Leeds, local market in the afternoon of Monday, 17th January 2011. From away I could observe the huge logo of McDonalds. I stood at the entrance and stared at the shop for few seconds. The shop was far more elegant than the average McDonald’s. The interior has a minimal style with posh chairs, tables, black art deco fixtures, beautiful paintings and attractive lights and draperies. There were large windows so it was impossible for customers to see into the Harvey Nichols store. Also, outside were window boxed filled with flowers or greenery. I could hear some relaxing music. At first glance, I noticed that customers were people with different age groups, genders, ethnic classes, social classes and cultural backgrounds. The language which was more spoken was English. How British Soap Operas Attract Large Audiences British soap operas used a variety of strategies and operations to attract a large audience. These strategies clearly work as proven by viewing figures for the three most popular soaps; Eastenders, Coronation Street and Emmerdale command viewing audiences of over ten million on a regular basis. Also soaps have proven to be the most consistent in terms of high audience figures over the years, making them indispensable to the institutions which create them. One strategy used by institutions and producers of a soap, is to place them at a peak viewing time to maximise audience figures. Also the timing of the program means that it has the highest exposure to a possible audience.
From the mid-twentieth century to the present time, telenovelas have been a huge source of entertainment in Latino households. From comedies to melodramas, the purpose of telenovelas is to offer an escape from the monotony of daily life. Most of the themes that are present are topics relevant to the Latino community. In the words of Cynthia Duncan, “... soap operas tend to promote and uphold traditional values and are generally conservative in nature.” (Duncan 84) Telenovelas focus on family life and how the character’s decisions affect the whole. One of the reasons why I love Mexico is because of the delicious food products they have. These food products are made in Mexico and are difficult to find in United States grocery stores. Therefore, I really like Mini Market Lupita which is located in Worthington Minnesota on Oxford street. This is a Mexican store that offers food product brands from Mexico it contains a bakery and a butcher shop. My family and I appreciate having a store like this in town because it provides the community a taste of Mexican food products. Along, with that these are three reasons why I like and recommend this store. Mini Market Lupita is a well-organized store that always has affordable prices and has a welcoming environment with an excellent array of Mexican food products.

Soap Operas What is a soap opera? A soap opera is a long running television or radio programme that is shown regularly, based on the everyday lives of lots of different characters living in a close-knit community. Soap operas always have a central meeting place (usually a pub) where the characters spend a lot of time, and most of the action takes place. For example The Queen Vic in Eastenders, or The Rover's Return in Coronation Street. The name soap opera comes from the first soaps produced in America in the forties.
The Popularity of Soap Operas Television researchers have established a number of reasons why soap operas appeal to such a large and diverse audience. In this essay I will be examining these reasons with reference to my own attraction to soaps, and seeing how they fit into the everyday lives of the millions who watch them. Furthermore, I will investigate the way in which the construction and conventions of a soap opera aids its appeal. I will be considering such aspects as class, race, ethnicity and gender in order to determine the pleasures of soap opera viewing and will briefly look at their international appeal.
