The word “race” has been around since the 16th century. The term racism was invented in the 20th century ("Racism." Gale Student Resources in Context. Detroit); however, racism can be traced to the beginning of human existence. Racism is the belief that a certain group of people is different because of their race. America is known for their huge, diverse population; however, not all people are treated the same. Racism is and has been affecting America in many ways, especially in the workplace. An employer should always look at the abilities of their employees when it comes to their jobs. When hiring, resumes are used to show the employers how hard the applicant’s work and about where they studied. However, employers are taking the names of
the applicants to another level. Even before learning about the person, employers judge purely on the names of the applicants, and “white-sounding names” are more likely to be hired than any other race (Ivana Kottasova). One man named Jose Zamora had to drop the “S” from his first name to get a job. Zamora was struggling to find a job, and one day he decided to change his name to Joe on all of his resumes. Jose said that he resent all of his resumes without any changes except his name, and his inbox filled up with responses the very next week. Joe Zamora said, “I had to drop a letter to get a title.” According to a New York Times, applicants with “White-sounding” names received more callbacks than people with “Latino and black sounding” names (Cate Mathews). People of color are not given the equal opportunities as whites. Even with plenty of experiences and a great education, a person can be denied of a job because of where their family came from. America is the “Land of Opportunity”; however, not everyone receives the same opportunities. America should first enforce “Name blind hiring.” This is an employing method that job seekers were able to use to sign up for leading businesses in the UK. Studies showed that “candidates with alien-sounding names have sent out twice the amount of resumes than candidates with indigenous names” (Ivana Kottasova). This method allows all candidates equal chances and opportunity for a job.
What is racism? Racism is the believe that one race is superior than another. When using racism one may use a person’s skin color, language, customs or place of birth the judge them quickly in a negative way. This causes many things to happen such as war, slavery, formation of nations, and legal codes. It has been in human history for a really long time(Racism). Although it was there it wasn't always automatic, but it did end happening at some point or another. When people feel this way about other races they may think of them a subhuman of savages and may want segretain between themselves and the others(Racism). Though some think that race is a good way to classify people scientist say other ways:”There are few genetic characteristics to be found in England that are not found in Zaire or China…the differences that most deeply affect us in our dealings with each other ar not to any significant degree biologically determined”(Racism). So it is scientifically proven that using race to judge someone isn't really fair because they could be more genetically connected to you that you
Racism is defined as the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to dominate others or that a particular racial group is inferior to the others. Why feel superior if God created everyone equal and there is not one inferior. Over the history there has been many cases of racism. An example in history is Henrietta Lacks, her eyes still young and playful not knowing she had a cancerous tumor with a multimillion- dollar of immortal cells inside of her. Being born and raised in the city of Dallas, Texas with his siblings and parents he saw much racism as a young child, but he never really noticed it until he left for Europe when he was fifteen. Have you ever been discriminated against simply because your skin is darker than the next person? Have you ever been told by someone that “your pretty for a dark skin girl or boy?” Have you ever been racist toward your own race? Since long before we or our parents were born, the black community has faced this problem with racism within the same race. In the black community, it is said that if a person have a lighter skin complexion, than they are superior to those with a darker skin complexion. Racism within the black community is a serious issue that needs to be addressed.

Discrimination is a huge injustice and we need to all do something to end it. To fight discrimination we need to first maybe make laws and rules about it. The government only fixed it a little by letting other races join with the white in work, schools, etc. That didn't actually fix the problem though. People discriminate over another because they could be jealous or just not like them for a certain reason. Some don't even have certain reasons to hate another. Additionally, if I was the manager for a restaurant, and a black man came in, asking for a job. If I said no because of his race, that would be racial discrimination. Also, men and woman of today will discriminate over who's better or who can get jobs easier. Men and women should be
