As John Muir once said:” When one tugs at a single thing in nature, he finds it attached to the rest of the world.” In this quote he tells how in everything there is some type of connection that ties it to the rest of the world. By seeing one connection in the world, we end up seeing a thousand more scaling from small to large. In this essay you will see connection in things like Kat Von D, Racism, and In-n-Out to tattoos and California.
Who's better at tattoos them Kat Von D? She is an well known American tattoo artist. Kat’s full name is Katherine Von Drachenberg. Her parents were missionaries that lived in Mexico when she was born in March 8,1982. Eventually her family moved to Cotton, California when she was at the age

of four (“Kat Von D”). At the age of 16 Kat dropped out of school and started tattooing. Today Kat is a tattoo artist, model, television personality, and an entrepreneur. In 2008 she launched a makeup line and in 2009 she published a book. Kat is also an animal rights activist and uses her makeup line to help any animal she can: “20% of sales being donated to Project chimp”(“Kat Von D”). She holded the world record for most tattoos given in 24 hours in 2007 at 400, until her ex-husband Oliver Peck broke it (“Kat Von D”). Television shows she has been on were, Miami ink for two seasons, L.A. ink for four seasons, and an episode of Life in Pieces. All in all Kat Von D is a well accomplished person and a great tattoo artist. Secondly there is In-n-Out.
There is nothing better than an amazing homemade hamburger from In-n-Out. Opened in 1948 by Harry and Esther Snyder, In-n-Out is a hamburger restaurant that at was established in Baldwin Park, California. Harry and Esther opened the hamburger shop saying that they wanted to have: “the freshest, highest quality food you can buy...friendly service in sparking clean environment”(“The History of In-n-Out”). It is said that In-n-Out was the first drive-thru experience for customers to have. After two years of serving people in their opinion the freshest food people could get from fast food the opened the second restaurant(“The History of In-n-Out”).After 28 years of being open, Harry Snyder died of lung cancer leaving his company to his, at the time, 24 year-old son Rich. Rich worked at the restaurant his whole live and refused to change anything his parents had established:”There is money to be made by doing those things, but you lose something and I don't want to lose what I was raised with all my live”(“The History of In-n-Out”). The only thing Rich ever changed was adding lemon lime soda to the menu, other than that there was no changes to the original menu. There is however a secret menu only true lovers of the burger spot know of that consists of animal style fries, and a hamburger with grilled onions. In 1992 the restaurant moved for the first time to Las Vegas, but sadly Rich only got to see that expansion because of his death in a …show more content…
plane crash in 1993(“The History of In-n-Out”). In-n-Out moved two more times in 2000 to Arizona, 2008 to Utah, and 2010 to Texas. Esther died later on in 2006 at the age of 86. Throughout all the years In-n-Out has been open they haven’t changed many things and don't plan on doing it anytime soon. Moreover there is California. Spotted with beautiful beaches, amazing mountains, and an intriguing history, California is a pretty interesting state. California became an U.S territory in 1847 as part of a peace treaty between Mexico and America. Gold was found on Sutter's mill one year later by Jack Marshall, causing thousands at a time to floud California in hopes of becoming rich. In 1850 California became to 31st state in the U.S(California). Today California is just a interesting as it was in the beginning with many great places like, Hollywood, Disneyland, Yosemite National Park, Alcatraz, and the Golden Gate Bridge. It’s capital is Sacramento and overall population being at 37,253,956. California has many areas and places that hold records, such as Death Valley being one of the hottest places on earth with temperatures being at over 120* and it also being the lowest place below sea level at 282 feet (California). This state also have the largest economy, and leads in agricultural production:”California grows more than 3.3 million tons of wine grapes on over 540,000 acres each year and produces roughly 90% of all U.S wine…. In 2012, California was ranked ninth largest economy in the world”(California). All in all California is a pretty cool state with a lot to offer people from around the world. Nextly, a big part of pop culture, tattoos. Colorful and attention grabbing, tattoos are amazing pieces of living art and self expression. They can be dated back to 4000 AC to the Egyptians, as well as the Japanese in 500 BC. In Japan they were used for cosmetic and religious purposes. When tattoos first started they were given with either needle like metal objects or sharp pieces of bone(Tattoos). James Cook wrote about seeing the process of tattoos in a book saying:”They stained their bodies by indenting or pricking the skin with small instruments made of bone cut into small teeth”(Tattoos). Tattoos only gained popularity in the last 200 years. Originally the people who got them were sailors, motorcyclists, and prison inmates, so many people thought that tattoos were bad up until, at least in the U.S, the 1980’s. They can be very use useful for many reasons, such as covering up scars or burns and even permanent makeup. Since tattoos gained popularity guidelines have been set in place to makes sure tattoos artist are being safe when giving tattoos(Tattoos). A couple of the guidelines that come with doing tattoos is you must wear latex gloves, only use sterilized needles, disinfect surfaces before and after doing the tattoo, and throw away any tissues into a leak proof trash bin the limit blood born illness(Tattoos). In conclusion tattoos are amazing pieces of art on person for the rest of their lives. Lastly you have racism.
What is racism? Racism is the believe that one race is superior than another. When using racism one may use a person’s skin color, language, customs or place of birth the judge them quickly in a negative way. This causes many things to happen such as war, slavery, formation of nations, and legal codes. It has been in human history for a really long time(Racism). Although it was there it wasn't always automatic, but it did end happening at some point or another. When people feel this way about other races they may think of them a subhuman of savages and may want segretain between themselves and the others(Racism). Though some think that race is a good way to classify people scientist say other ways:”There are few genetic characteristics to be found in England that are not found in Zaire or China…the differences that most deeply affect us in our dealings with each other ar not to any significant degree biologically determined”(Racism). So it is scientifically proven that using race to judge someone isn't really fair because they could be more genetically connected to you that you
think. Evidently, it is seen that in everything in the world there is some type of connection. There was only a few listed in this essay such as, Kat Von D to tattoos and California to In-n-Out and racism. Connections are everywhere and in everything. It just takes a small tug to see an entire world of interconnectedness.
One of the major differences between the two restaurants is the quality of their food and their services better provided to the customer. In-N-Out Burger is all 100% fresh product. The meat is never frozen, the lettuce is handpicked every day, and the potatoes are peeled and diced daily. The meat that In-N-Out receives is fresh and needs to be prepared in order for the restaurant to serve it. The morning crew arrives at 6am to do many things and one of those duties is to prepare the meat for the day. They have to shape, and season the meat before it can be pressed and cooked. The truck comes everyday with the calculated amount of sales. However, Jack in the Box receives frozen product. Calculated sales weekly and the trucks come only two days a week. The lettuce arrives at the store pre-cut and ready for use in the restaurant. Everything that comes off the truck just needs to be heated-up in order to serve. Another difference is the quality of the stores employees. In-N-Out Burger’s employees always have a positive attitude. They will always go out of their way to make sure all customers are 100% satisfied. The employees make sure that every visit is one to remember and that the customer will always come back for that amazing customer service. Conversely, Jack in the Box’s employees is quite different. Their employees are careless, and have negative attitudes. They do not care if customers are un-satisfied. Their service ...

Racism is defined as the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to dominate others or that a particular racial group is inferior to the others. Why feel superior if God created everyone equal and there is not one inferior. Over the history there has been many cases of racism. An example in history is Henrietta Lacks, her eyes still young and playful not knowing she had a cancerous tumor with a multimillion- dollar of immortal cells inside of her. She was one of many persons who experienced racism. The novel of The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot addresses her life has an African American. The racism theme is prevalent in the novel and it shows the fact how African Americas were treated by white people.
Racism, a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human racial groups determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one 's own race is superior and has the right to dominate others or that a particular racial group is inferior to the others. Racism was one of John Howard Griffin, the writer of a very well known inequality book of Black Like Me, main topics for his writings. Being born and raised in the city of Dallas, Texas with his siblings and parents he saw much racism as a young child, but he never really noticed it until he left for Europe when he was fifteen. To broaden his education and continue his studies, he moved to France at a young age. Soon after living in France and Europe,
Racism can be traced back many years, and despite what many believe, it is still a prominent issue. Racism is when people discriminate others because of the color of their skin. Some people are racist on purpose, but there are times when they do it subconsciously. Everything in this world has a beginning, and racism started with the belief that people of color were inferior to those that weren’t. This belief spread throughout America as it was passed down from generation to generation. Racism seems to be a characteristic of being human. When we are introduced to a new face our mind automatically categorizes people based off of their physical appearance. When people don’t meet certain standards set by others, there becomes a divide between them
What is racism? As indicated by Bonilla-Silva, “someone that is not racist is a man who does not effectively battle against societal standards in regards to race and benefits.” I am sure that everyone have been discriminated at some point of their lifetime. It could be age, color, sex religion or whatever it may be, someone experience racism at least once. Growing up I was discriminate against because my parents were Haitians. My classmates would tell me “Edlyne you look good for a Haitian girl”. What is that supposed to mean? I’d reacted exasperated. Everyone has their own beauty, whether they were Haitian, Hispanic, or European. What is so bad about being another different? Why do race have so much impact on society? Only if everyone would
Let’s start with the definition of racism. Racism refers to the belief that race is the primary determinant of human capacities, that a certain race is inherently superior or inferior to others, and/or that individuals should be treated differently based on their ascribed race.
Racism comes in many forms ad can be expressed in many different societies in various ways. 1 The dictionary defines racism as the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races. This definition of racism makes it clear that it is a perceived point of view that implies prejudice towards people or a person based solely on their race. Racism has been an issue in many societies for many years and still is an issue in modern society. 2 Recently in the U.S. many cases of racism towards African Americans have been shown in the media. However racism is not just a U.S. culture based issue but also a cross-cultural issue
“There are a few views regarding on the definitions of racism by experts. Racism can be defined as the belief that all members of a purported race possess characteristics, abilities, or qualities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or other races”. (Hoyt, C., 2012) “Racism is the belief that characteristics and abilities can be attributed to people simply on the basis of their race and that some racial groups are superior to others”. (Anup, S., 2010) “Racism is based on a hierarchy of physical differences. Racism is not only a network of attitudes, beliefs, and convictions; it also refers to behaviors, practices, and actions. Racism is a social construction”. (Carignan, N. et al, 2005)
Racism in the dictionary is defined as the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races. Since the 1600’s, when African-Americans were brought to America, there has been discrimination ever since. Although in today’s modern society, there is a diverse amount of cultures combined together, racism is still showing through everyday activities including fashion and work.
Racism is defined as the belief that one race posses something better or more superior than another race. Racism and Racial Discrimination has been around for 2 Centuries. It started off in medieval times. Often rulers would be Prejudice or would have Racial Assumptions point toward a peasant because of his/her appearance or wealth. From there slavery took over. During MOST of the 19th century, and all of the 20th century, slavery ruled. If you were “colored” a termed used for African American, you were thought of as less than trash. African Americans faced 4 of the 7 most common types of Racial Discrimination. They faced Prejudice, Racial Assumptions, Harassment and Systematic Racism.
This belief can have an enormous effect over the way that one group of people treats another. In retrospect all racism entails is the idea that because of someone's skin colour or religion they are an in-superior race of the. Racism is a blatant form of prejudice. People who are prejudice are people who have strong feelings against certain types of people before they have even met them. Prejudice means 'pre-judgement' and society.
What is racism? Racism can be defined as – “The belief that race accounts for differences in human character or ability and that a particular race is superior to others.” Racism occurs when a racist group finds it necessary to put down other ethnic groups in an attempt to strengthen their own. A very strong racist comment or action might make the other group feel hurtful, degrading, humiliating. The novel, “Heart of darkness”, written by Joseph Conrad provides such instances which are racist and biased against the people living in Africa.
