History
The Catapult is a brilliant invention when it comes to naval aviation but to understand
how it came about we need to go way back to 1903 where the fathers of aviation Orville and
Wilbur Wright were preparing to change history forever but to do that they needed to get air
born. So they came up with a so called catapult to launch the Wright Flyer. It consisted of a
track with a block that the Wright flyer would be attached to, on that block there was a system of
ropes and pulleys and at the back of the track was a weight suspended, when someone released
the weight it would pull the Wright flyer along the track and shoot it into the books of history as
the first flight ever. The Wright Brothers would offer their system to

Early models of the aircraft catapult were tracks attached to warships and
on those tracks there was a block holding the aircraft. It was attached to a rope that ran through a
system of pulleys then lead to a piston filled with compressed air, and when the air is released it
would pull the ropes and hurl the aircraft into the sky.
The new problem was landing, the plane had to land in the water and be winched up, so
the navy designed a new ship with an arresting gear system for landing. It would have ropes with
weights such as sandbags, or other heavy material tied on them. It worked by when the aircraft
would land its hook was supposed to grab different ropes, and come to a halt. Now days are
more advanced, it starts out by a 2.5-inch-thick rope that is tightly set to be about 3 inches off the
deck of the carrier. It has a set of pulleys that the ropes run through that leads to a piston filled
with fluid. When the rope gets snagged it pushes the piston, and as the fluid is pushed up it
builds up pressure and forces the rope to tighten., and slow the plane.
How Effective Is It
Well to be honest the catapult and the arresting gear are the most effective equipment

Planes have developed immensely through the years. The Wright brothers developed the first plane in 1903.
During Wilbur Wright’s childhood, he expressed an unusual interest in human flight through playing with models of aircrafts that his father brought home, and studying the bird’s flight outside with his equally as interested brother, Orville Wright. But it was not until Orville was struck with a deadly illness that had no known cure that “Wilbur had begun reading about a German glider… aloud to Orville” which had interested them so much that they began attempting their own aircraft once Orville had made a full recovery on top of managing their own bicycle shop (McCullough 28). It was at this point, when they began to put more of their time
Wilbur and Orville Wright spent their lives building and working with mechanical devices. They began with little toys as children and then grew up and began working with bicycles. These works lead them towards their work with airplanes. The Wright Brothers tried for many years to build a successful flying machine and succeeded. The Wright Brothers laid the foundation for aviation when they made history by being the first to create a successful flying machine.

All you need to know about the role physics plays in the flight of an aircraft.
Dana was an ordinary woman making a living as a writer alongside her husband, Kevin, until something unimaginable happened. She is impacted by unexplainable, life-altering events as she’s forced to travel back and forth from California in the 1970s to Maryland in the early 1800s during the era of slavery. She is set on a journey to save her long-lost ancestors and preserve her lineage. This novel explores themes of inequality and persistence as Dana attempts to live in this time as a black woman by playing the role of a slave. In Kindred, Octavia Butler portrays slavery from Dana’s perspective, emphasizing her experience and its impact while analyzing the effects on others living in the antebellum period.
The trials and tribulations of flight have had their ups and downs over the course of history. From the many who failed to the few that conquered; the thought of flight has always astonished us all. The Wright brothers were the first to sustain flight and therefore are credited with the invention of the airplane. John Allen who wrote Aerodynamics: The Science of Air in Motion says, “The Wright Brothers were the supreme example of their time of men gifted with practical skill, theoretical knowledge and insight” (6). As we all know, the airplane has had thousands of designs since then, but for the most part the physics of flight has remained the same. As you can see, the failures that occurred while trying to fly only prove that flight is truly remarkable.
The history of flying dates back as early as the fifteenth century. A Renaissance man named Leonardo da Vinci introduced a flying machine known as the ornithopter. Da Vinci proposed the idea of a machine that had bird like flying capabilities. Today no ornithopters exist due to the restrictions of humans, and that the ornithopters just aren’t practical. During the eighteenth century a philosopher named Sir George Cayley had practical ideas of modern aircraft. Cayley never really designed any workable aircraft, but had many incredible ideas such as lift, thrust, and rigid wings to provide for lift. In the late nineteenth century the progress of aircraft picks up. Several designers such as Henson and Langley, both paved the way for the early 1900’s aircraft design. Two of the most important people in history of flight were the Wright Brothers. The Wright Brothers were given the nickname the “fathers of the heavier than air flying machine” for their numerous flights at their estate in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. Orville and Wilbur Wright created a motor-powered biplane in which they established incredible feats of the time. The Wright Brothers perfected their design of the heavier than air flying ma...
In the late 19th century, transportation took enormous time and effort, and it was often dangerous. With this being said, it was time for someone to shine. The creative minds of the world began to come out, and, finally, the world met a breakthrough. In Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, an alarming invention would change the way humans transport, forever. In 1903, Wilbur and Orville Wright had succeeded in a lifelong adventure of creating a flying machine.

The creation of the airplane dates back to December 17, 1903 in Kitty Hawk North Carolina(inventors.about), which was created by Orville and Wilbur Wright. The experiment for the first plane consisted of taking a man and placing him in the plane and then having the plane raise by its own power, in result this would cause it to fly in a natural manner at even speeds and then defending without any damage (Bellis). The craft they created was called a biplane. A biplane, an aircraft of early design, consists of two sets of wings placed at different levels in a vertical stack with the fuselage(the body of an airplane, containing the cockpit, passenger seating, and cargo) between them. Also the first airplane soared at a height of ten feet and went one hundred twenty feet and touched back down after fifty nine seconds in the air (Bellis). Today theres 1,568 commercial airlines and 23,844 aircrafts in commercial service (Fact Sheet:
