The California government is made up of different branches. The legislative is one of the most important because that is where laws are made. The Legislative Branch consists of the House of Representatives and the Senate. To run for senator the person has to be a citizen as well as have no felonies. In addition to if they are running again they can’t do more than 2 terms (Summary of Qualifications). The Senate is made up of 100 senators and serves 6 years per term. Senators confirm appointments for the president and pass treaties. The House of Representatives they have to be 25 years old and have to be a citizen for 7 years. As well as live in the resident that they are running for (The House). The amount of representatives is based on the …show more content…
population of the state. So in California, there are 53 representatives. There can only be 435 representatives for the nation as it is a law. The house makes laws and passes then in part with the Senate. The two branches have to work together to be able to pass laws and come to an agreement in order to be successful. The Judicial Branch is the most known for the Supreme Court.
Each state has their own Supreme Court in which is the final interpreters of the laws of California. This branch is not very used as it’s if the state cannot decide on a ruling on its own. The laws have to go to individual cases and this branch gets to decide how they think the law is meant to be. The court is made up of the Chief Justice and six Associate Justices. They serve 10 years for the state supreme court and are on the ballot. However, they are not allowed to serve unless they have = served as a judge of a court of record for 10 years and then run (California's Legislature). Another important branch is the Executive Branch is the branch that involves the president or the governor of that state. The governor is elected by the people and they can only serve two terms. They have to be a citizen of the United States and have to be over 18 to run (California's Legislature). The Executive branch has secretaries or directors of 11 major state agencies in its cabinet for the state branch. When it is nationwide the executive Branch is usually made up by the President, Commander-in-Chief, Vice President, and many more. The President can veto laws and make treaties as well. For the state, the Governor can veto state bills and the line-item veto. There are many branches of government so that the government doesn't have too much power. This way there are checks and balance system and the people have a say in …show more content…
government. California is one of the most progressive states in the country. It is known that everyone is accepted as long as you accept everyone as well. California is hybrid political system is a combination of direct and representative democracy (Vechten, 2008). It is also one of the most populated states in the country with 39.54 million people living in it. According to McElwee, S., McDermott, M., & Jordan, W. “California is at the forefront of progressive policy.” California is the stepping stone to change. When California passes a proposition the nation usually knows because of how large California is. It makes it easier to go with California. Like if all labels have to say GMO-free then it is easier for the company to print all the same and not just the ones going to California. This is due to the number of voters that are in California. About 73 percent of California vote even though many people do not show for midterm election it still has an effect (Voter Participation). Direct democracy is where the people decide on the policies directly. California is a representative democracy in which the people choose who gets to represent the state. Californians help by creating propositions to see a law or change that they want to see (California's Direct). This allows change to happen quicker than they normally would. In the nation right now the midterm election is going on and California is choosing it, governor. There are seven main candidates in the race with five who are democrat and two Republicans. The Democrats are Delaine Eastin, Antonio Villaraigosa, Gavin Newsom, John Chiang, and Delaine Eastin. In addition to the two Republicans that are Travis Allen and John Cox. They want to have one Republican and one Democrat in the top two. Many people believe that Gavin Newsom is going to be the frontrunner while Tony Villaraigosa is trying to land the second spot. Right now the underdogs are Chiang and Easton as they both do not have a lot of money and are not well known. The president has endorsed Cox even though Cox didn’t vote for Trump in the election. This angers Allen because he based his campaign on him voting for Trump and being a true republican. I would vote for Delaine Eastin even though she is most likely not going to win. This is because of the character she is and her views. She was compared to Bernie Sanders and I couldn't agree more. As of now, only 1% is voting for her. However, I feel as though she is the most qualified. She is focused on the people and not just her own benefit made clear in the debate. She stated that California has lost its way. She wants to rebuild our democracy. In addition to rebuilding our democracy she is helping rebuild healthcare, education, environment, and businesses in California. She is endorsed by National Women’s Political Caucus (official voter). She has been in the government world for a long time and knows how to help the state which will in terms help the nation. The proposition I would vote for is Proposition 68. It is a bond that issues $4 billion for parks, environmental protection, and water infrastructure. It will take up 15-20 percent of the bonds. I feel like this proposition is important because the proposition will help the environment and help future generations. Climate change is a huge problem in the world and even if it is only California the world will catch on and help the environment. I strongly believe in this proposition and I hope it passes in the June election. A strong issue in California is the health care issue not only in California but in the nation.
Health care cost is rising making it harder for the lower-income population. California provides coverage for those who tired. The Affordable Care Act has increased the number of people with health care. The coast is growing due to the economic. It cost the state $267 billion which is $7,000 per person (California Healthcare). I feel that everyone should have health care in case of an accident. Lower income household is more likely to stay in the lower income region because of health care and sickness stopping them. There should be a reduction in the city which will provide better service and so everyone is able to pay. This will reduce the sickness and will help to keep riding the cost since less and less are sick. Public and Private health care should have to show the expenses so that there is only the use of the service when needed. It will be hard to find a perfect solution to this issue but it will help the people of California to be healthy (California
Healthcare).
The United States of America is one of the most powerful nation-states in the world today. The framers of the American Constitution spent a great deal of time and effort into making sure this power wasn’t too centralized in one aspect of the government. They created three branches of government to help maintain a checks and balance system. In this paper I will discuss these three branches, the legislative, the executive, and the judicial, for both the state and federal level.
1. The judicial branch consists of the Supreme Court and other various courts system at the federal, state, and local level. As I mentioned before the Supreme Court Justices are nominated the President of the United States, but the Senate must also approve them with at least 51 out of the 100 possible votes (“Branches of Government”). There is no specific term length of a Supreme Court Justice, once appointed, they will have that position for life or until they decide to retire.
national government, Congress is the legislative branch. The Executive branch is led by the President and the judicial branch is run by the Supreme Court (SCOTUS). Each branch of the national government has power over each other and can check each other. Congress makes laws for the entire country. The president (executive branch) carries out the laws that congress makes. The judicial branch interprets how the law should be read. Each branch has separate jobs (separation of powers). For the state, governors have the authority to issue executive orders. This means that they can veto the legislation they enforce state laws instead of national laws. In the state, the legislation branch consists of two houses which are considered bicameral. The judiciary branch of the state government is the state courts. The state and national level of government basically check each other in the same ways at the legislative
For the last five years of my life I have worked in the healthcare industry. One of the biggest issues plaguing our nation today has been the ever rising cost of health care. If we don't get costs under control, we risk losing the entire system, as well as potentially crippling our economy. For the sake of our future, we must find a way to lower the cost of health care in this nation.
There is an ongoing debate on the topic of how to fix the health care system in America. Some believe that there should be a Single Payer system that ensures all health care costs are covered by the government, and the people that want a Public Option system believe that there should be no government interference with paying for individual’s health care costs. In 1993, President Bill Clinton introduced the Health Security Act. Its goal was to provide universal health care for America. There was a lot of controversy throughout the nation whether this Act was going in the right direction, and in 1994, the Act died. Since then there have been multiple other attempts to fix the health care situation, but those attempts have not succeeded. The Affordable Care Act was passed in the senate on December 24, 2009, and passed in the house on March 21, 2010. President Obama signed it into law on March 23 (Obamacare Facts). This indeed was a step forward to end the debate about health care, and began to establish the middle ground for people in America. In order for America to stay on track to rebuild the health care system, we need to keep going in the same direction and expand our horizons by keeping and adding on to the Affordable Care Act so every citizen is content.
Should America make Healthcare less expansive, more affordable to have? It’s nothing new that our nation is always coming up with something in stirring up a plan to create ideas on how this will affect individuals. Well the chances that’s affecting this nation is our healthcare system where you have millions of Americans struggling in trying to keep up with the prices, is it really that serious that the healthcare companies are asking them to pay way more than what they should be originally paying for? It’s no wonder why so many families are losing money left and right and having to suffer bankruptcy in order to have the care they need for their loved ones and so forth. But have Americans reached a breaking point where something has to be done in order for us to save money for a rainy day absolutely because it doesn’t make any sense whatsoever for healthcare prices to be so high and off the track for instant around 70% of our healthcare dollars is being put on for treating chronic illnesses. Second, our nation spends about $765 a year on carless healthcare, which features unimportant medical tests and products.
In 2007 San Francisco began its Healthy San Francisco Plan designed to provide health care for all San Francisco citizens. In 2007, it was estimated that San Francisco had 82,000 uninsured citizens. Under the plan, all uninsured citizens residing in San Francisco can seek care at the city's public and private clinics and hospitals. The basic coverage includes lab work, x-rays, surgery, and preventative care. The city plans to pay for this $203 million coverage by rerouting the $104 million the city currently spends treating the uninsured in the emergency rooms, mandating business contributions, and requiring income-adjusted enrollment fees. The plan requires all businesses with more than 20 employees to contribute a percentage toward the plan. Many business owners consider this a burden and warn they will not stay in the city. The Mayor sees universal health access a moral obligation for the city. As a city, San Fransico has an obligation to provide it citizens with health access. The questions to be address are: What is the government's role in regulating healthy and unhealthy behavior? Has the balance between personal freedom and the government's responsibility to provide health and welfare of its citizens been eroded? Why or why not?
Health insurance, too many American citizens, is not an option. However, some citizens find it unnecessary. Working in the health care field, I witness the effects of uninsured patients on medical offices. Too often, I see a “self-pay” patient receive care from their doctor and then fail to pay for it. Altogether, their refusal to pay leaves the office at a loss of money and calls for patients to pay extra in covering for the cost of the care the uninsured patient received. One office visit does not seem like too big of an expense, but multiple patients failing to pay for the care they receive adds up. Imagine the hospital bills that patients fail to pay; health services in a hospital are double, sometimes triple, in price at a hospital. It is unfair that paying patients are responsible for covering these unpaid services. Luckily, the Affordable Care Act was passed on March 23, 2010, otherwise known as Obamacare. Obamacare is necessary in America because it calls for all citizens to be health insured, no worrying about pre-existing conditions, and free benefits for men and women’s health.
There are three branches of the federal government, the executive, the judicial, and the legislative. The executive branch consists of such people as the president, the cabinet, and the executive offices of the president. The executive branch is known for enforcing laws created by the legislative branch. The judicial branch entails the United States Supreme Court and the Federal Judiciary. The judicial branch must review the laws the executive branch is to enforce. There is also the legislative branch. This branch contains the United States House of Representatives, the United States Senate, and the Library of Congress. Laws are created through the legislative branch.
Health Insurance is one of the nations top problems, the cost is rising for premiums, and many businesses just cannot afford it. As Americans many of us have the luxury of health insurance, but far too many of us have to go without it. This is something that always seems to brought up at congressional debates, but little is done about it. “In 2013 there were 41 million people reported with out health insurance coverage, this is too many considering those people probably were sick at some point through out the year, and they couldn’t afford treatment.” We need to find someway to make sure that every citizen of the United States is able to have affordable healthcare for themselves, and their families.
All of the branches have a unique power from the rest of them. At times each branch has over come the other branches. The judicial branch has the supreme court which decides what laws to pass. The Legislative makes laws
health care, only those who are “privileged” enough to afford health care can receive it. So is this what health care in the United States is and should be?Arnold Schwarzenegger the former Governor of California stated “Health care is not a right, but its cause is a government interference in the healthcare system. The solution is to leave doctors, patients and insurance companies free to deal with each other on whatever terms they choose, not to socialize American medicine” (Russo). Schwarzenegger then went on about how this would cost the government too much money and that this is not the answer to the healthcare improvement (Russo). Sen. Shelia Keuhl, the senator that wrote the bill stated in a press release “It’s important to understand that vetoes of health reform legislation have very serious consequences […] Because of these vetoes, there will continue to be very little regulation of the runaway health insurance market and no protections for consumers”
According to Roy, 2013 the issues of providing the affordable care act will unite both the supporters and offenders of the public policy, but in this current situation where the input costs are rising, it will become impossible for government in managing the public policy related to affordable health care. In order to provide affordable health care, majority of the US government has tried out different policies time to time, but unable to get success in realizing the actual policy goals. By providing the affordable health care to majority of the people who requires more amount as controlling the input cost is not possible (AAMC, 2013). Lack of doctors is one of the primary issue in providing high quality health care to the citizens especially those who are financially poor. The Supreme Court of the country passed an Act related to Health insurance as all should have Health Insurance to all the country people by the year 2014, but the at the same time government is concerned about constitutionality of these act (NYTimes, 2013).
For example, Alaska only has 1 representative, California has the most in the USA. Members are elected by the people for 2-year terms, all terms running for the same period of time.. Both the Senators and the Representatives must be residents of the State from which they are chosen. In addition, a Senator must be at. least 30 years of age and must have been a citizen of the United States.
...cal elections is many times less than twenty-five percent. Americans too frequently disregard state and local governments, although these governments have much power in the way that they live their lives.
