Some might say it’s not a sport because we “don’t do anything”(fellow peers). “In 1980 the number of cheer related emergency visits was 4,954 and in 2007 it was 26,786”(Hope Reeves). “That is nearly a 500% increase in a matter of 27 years”(Hope Reeves).
Cheerleading should be a sport because it has the highest amount of risks and demands more practices than football and basketball. Cheer is very risky and time consuming. Over 60% of sport injuries are cheer related. Cheerleaders practice more hours than most basketball or football players year round. Cheerleading is a year round sport requiring a rigorous competition season learning a new routine and skill set in the remaining
