The Assasin It was a dark night the rain was swooping in. A full moon lit up the dull valley. A lonely man lay in the rain soaked grass, constantly starring down at a lonely country cottage. A car passed by on the lane creating Silhouettes within the trees. The car startled him, but his lack of nerves led him to carry on. All to be heard was an owls hooting in a near by whistling tree. The waiting was endless, a single drop of rain trickled down his stern face, but for fear of being caught he never twitched. Two deafening roars of thunder echoed through the hills but torrential conditions didn't move him, his unblinking, hard, cold eyes where fixed on the house. Two years of planning was about to be over he picked up his box and limped down the hill to a lonely cottage. As he arrived at the worn gate, he hung the rifle on the gatepost and tried to push up the rusty catch eventually snapping it. He then crept silently along the grass-covered path towards the dark, derelict looking house. The black door was originally red but covered in years of dirt from an obviously careless owner. He pushed open the towering door with ease and entered the house making sure he closed it behind him. He limped into the desolate Victorian kitchen and picked up a newspaper dated the previous year, which he would use later. Even though he knew his plan he went over it one more time in his head. He calmly walked into an uncarpeted hallway, which was in total darkness. He started to walk up the old staircase to wait for his victim, like an eagle swooping for its prey. He entered the front bedroom and brushed the glass off the bed, using the newspaper. The colour of the wall was a dusty black colour he knew could camouflage him. The room suddenly lit up. The man jumped to the floor away from the window. He later discovered that a car had turned
One of the more romantic elements of American folklore has been the criss-crossing rail system of this country – steel rails carrying Americans to new territories across desert and mountain, through wheat fields and over great rivers. Carl Sandburg has flavored the mighty steam engine in elegant prose and Arlo Guthrie has made the roundhouse a sturdy emblem of America’s commerce.

Even now he could remember it so clearly. He could still remember savage calls echoing through the trees, and the pounding of his heart in his chest.
When the topic comes to presidential assassins, most people will not use the word amusing and assassins in the same sentence; however; Dan Danbom, a reporter for the Rocky Mountain News, proved otherwise and stated that Vowell has succeeded in creating a “humorous” historical context by writing “I can confidently say that Sarah Vowel’s Assassination Vacation is the most amusing book you’ll read this year about presidential assassinations” (Danbom). Sarah Vowel’s purpose of Assassination Vacation is to allow readers to have a look at both sides of history to shed light on the assassins, to reanimate moments lost to history, and to make her book more interesting by using her unique style of writing; although she fails miserably by adding in too much humor and too many personal opinions, she was successful by examining the motive of the assassins, giving analysis to allow readers to look at past and present events, and by using her interesting style of writing to engage readers to continue reading the story.
...the plan. So even though he realizes the dreadful outcome, he decides to try to execute the already-doomed plan anyway.
So the Moon should have risen big and bright on the night of May 19, but it failed to do so. Not a trace of it. Nor could any stars be seen either. The day had been as dark as midnight over much of New England, and though there were neither gas lights nor electric lights at that early era, there were candles to light the homes. Accustomed as Americans of that time were to the nighttime hours, they had never seen a night so utterly black as this. Those who, for one reason and another, were out and about on the roads of rural America that unusual night, found themselves confronted by a darkness that was no less remarkable than that of the daytime hours had been. Horses, the primary means of transportation, could not see to put one foot in front of the other, and simply refused to move. At various times that evening after the Moon rose, though invisibly, the sky cleared sufficiently to present the dreadful specter of a blood-red disc rising to the zenith of the heavens. This phenomenon especially was noted after midnight had ushered in the 20th of May. Bloody and round, the Moon at least offered some small hope that the darkened heavens were at last beginning to clear. Gradually stars began to appear, and the next morning the Sun, to the immense relief of all, rose at its accustomed time and
The night was tempestuous and my emotions were subtle, like the flame upon a torch. They blew out at the same time that my sense of tranquility dispersed, as if the winds had simply come and gone. The shrill scream of a young girl ricocheted off the walls and for a few brief seconds, it was the only sound that I could hear. It was then that the waves of turmoil commenced to crash upon me. It seemed as though every last one of my senses were succumbed to disperse from my reach completely. As everything blurred, I could just barely make out the slam of a door from somewhere alongside me and soon, the only thing that was left in its place was an ominous silence.

The stars looked so much bigger and brighter. It was amazing how much more interested I was in them as soon as the rain made them look like that. It was easier to distinguish where the constellations were and I finally understood why Ryan took his telescope outside every chance possible. We decided that since everyone was already wet, we might as well do something else. We all ran into the house quickly and back out through the front door to go into the yard. That was the first time I ever danced in the rain, and I still cherish that moment today. I am glad it was with my brother and Ben since back then, I hardly ever got to hang out with my big brother. Apparently it was uncool to have a little sister around. However, in that moment, I do not think he cared what others would have thought. We were just dancing like retards and had no care in the world. In the middle of dancing like fools, Ryan and Ben decided to sneak attack me and throw me into a mud puddle. Before I could get revenge on them, Ryan said to hang on a second, and went back into the house. He returned with a whole bunch of glowstick
What has our society classified as a prisoner of war? A prisoner of war is someone who is a member of regular or irregular armed forces of a nation at war held by the enemy. After two years of war with the Middle East our society wonders what happens to the prisoners in jail. The other conflicts of prisoners of war is how they are treated in jail, also what did they do to be detained as a prisoner of war? In most situations, there is a legitimate reason why these people are taken captive. So many might ask what is happening to the Iraqis detained under Coalition forces custody, and do the prisons comply with standards set fourth in the Geneva Conventions? This subject is very controversial to the U.S and other nations. The controversial part of this subject is the alleged abuse of prisoners in jail in custody of U.S soldiers. There are many cases of prisoners dying in prison but is it because of abuse by American soldiers. This subject of abuse upon prisoners of war has reach all over the world especially to the United States. Our president George W. Bush, along with Congress, has arranged investigations on the events that happen inside the prisons. He has addressed to the nation that such things have not occurred, but what a U.S soldier knows may be a little different. This kind of action toward prisoners of war is illegal according to US law, which is dictated by the Geneva Conventions. If a soldier is found guilty of abuse, or other forms of mistreatment, that soldier will be recommended for court-martial. The other issue about this subject is that there are so many different opinions on this matter. One opinion is that U.S personnel really did cause the death of many prisoners of war. The other question i...
It was about one-thirty in the morning in the town of Homestead Michigan. The almost florescent light of the moon bouncing off the fresh puddles that covered the ground. The grass and trees were covered in a thin layer of water causing every little beam of light to reflect back up. Anyone who may have been outside at this time would have without double, smelled the mix of fresh dirt and night crawlers. As the moonlight started to fade away through the cloud cover, three buses made there way through the streets and parked in front of HHS, the local high school.
The silver moon suspends in the velvet sky, glowing dimly. Moonlight travels through the yellowish leaves and sheds on the land. I see the obscure, indistinct shadows of the trees are swaying on the floor letting me have the illusion of thousands of devils dancing slyly in the night, planning some evil trick. The hazy mist surrounds the street making it more mysterious and attractive, and the bright...
During this specific night, an army of mysterious, murky clouds seized control of divine sky, devouring the sun. Favored by the troops, the moon, displaying its glorious luminescence upon a shadowy city, wins a triumphant victory over the sun. A ferocious leader of the army activates the withdrawal then leads dedicated soldiers to west as if they are tracking down a wild dog. On the other hand, the city transmits its vivid and righteous illuminations back to the sky to let people in the “second floor” know that “era of tranquility” began. Imagine the astonishing night, rigid and bright buildings lie elegantly on the moonlight sky, bring lights gaze from the thousands of bulbs. It is beautiful, yet no one knows what beauty is upon them.
