Alcohol is very effective at being negative. It takes your money, health, and even your relationships. In the book The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian by Sherman Alexie, has a lot to do with alcohol and the effects. Also, he wrote about how it affected him and his family. Alexie based the story on a character named Junior and his family and his best friend Rowdy. Alcohol has affected them all in someway, all in different ways but they all lead back to alcohol. Alexie has a purpose for this topic and it hits hard to home, family, and friends. Think of this, whenever you are buying alcohol you are spending your money. It eats your liver and messes with your brain. Every sip you take goes to your liver and hurts it terribly. In the book almost everyone drank. Junior’s dad, sometimes his mom, his best friend’s dad, even his sister. There was a character in the book, and he had been drinking and was very drunk and decided to drive home . Instead of having someone else bring him home he was alone and wasn’t able to focus on the road correctly and hit Junior’s grandma. Everyone on the reservation were all devastated about Grandmother Spirit passing away. She was a great person but alcohol got the best of the driver and gave him the idea that it was ok to drive home drunk. Junior and his family took a while to finally accept the fact that they had lost their grandma and she was gone for good. It affected their family so much, everyone was distraught. “Grandparents are supposed to die first, but they’re supposed to die of old age.
