Do you ever feel unsafe while walking down a busy street? Try throwing your phone into the mix. Most people in busy towns or areas, want to ban texting and walking. “Make eye contact, never rely on a car to stop, and walk in groups.” By taking small efforts we can stop traffic deaths all together. A total of 5,376 pedestrians were killed in the US, in 2015. By using the laws of the road everyone should be alright with not being hit by a car. Instead of making a whole law against texting and walking, we can just stay in groups and cross when told to. Of course, there may be a couple of deaths here and there not due to the cell phone issue. You should never trust a car to stop, but we can definitely lower the amount of fatalities faster …show more content…

There are many more injuries to be added onto that list, but if people would pay more attention to the road in front of them we won't have to make a law. Just like if you tell people to do something like wearing a seatbelt for example, some others might try even harder to disobey that law. According to the article titled, “smartphone zombies” a spokesman agreed that, “What you are doing is rewarding bad behavior.” By encouraging the light feature on the streets, people can still look down at their phones while also seeing what color the light is turning. Sure, the LED strips of light called “Lichtijn” are good way to lessen the amount of fatalities but at the same time you are telling people that it is okay to walk on a busy street while texting. What if the person who is so used to texting while walking walks onto a street without the colored street lights? They would expect the streets to have these lights too, right? This is why the LED strip lights are not a good idea to install. Likewise, others agree that there should have a law for texting and walking. Just because you add a law doesn't mean that the issue would be resolved. There will be people who won’t listen, people who just don’t care, and people who just don’t realize. When you do something over and over again you get used to the pattern. Some people just don’t simply care if there is a law. The types of people who cross the street are very different, there are some who don’t care, and some who break the law. This is why a law is not necessary for texting and walking.
