In modern society, people often look at cancer as an incurable disease, a sign of death approaching closer towards your entity, but one man stood up and tried to nullify these assumptions. In the quest of curing cancer, a humanitarian, cancer research activist, Terrance Stanley Fox, dedicated his life into granting fundraising all around Canada, running a full-length marathon (forty two kilometers) every single day for till his parting death, while enduring his Amputated leg and rising awareness of the illness at the same time. He successfully raised a total of twenty four million dollars by the first of February 1981, plunging a significant influence in people’s heart till this day. Despite experiencing such a tragic event, nothing influenced him to hesitate on helping others overcome the same illness he was sick of. Terry fox should be greatest Canadian in the world, because he did some of the greatest accomplishments in Canadian history. After participating in the Prince George race at August 1979, Terry finished the race with taking with the place of last place, but even with the circumstances, Terry received a massive applause and praise from other participants. This influenced and convinced terry fox that he is able to run a marathon and still make people aware of his presence. He then thought of an option of raising awareness of the cancer. The plan was to run all over Canada with the length of a marathon every day, and have at least every Canadian in Canada to donate one dollar to the research department of curing cancer, the cross - country was called “Marathon of Hope”. Despite having his mother saying this was crazy. Terry started running the Marathon of Hope, on the date of April Twelfth, 1980, starting from St. John’s Newfoundland, carrying his beliefs and determination with him during the run. But being one of the top Canadian athletics in the era of the 1980s is a great pride to hold, as one of them was Terry Fox, the greatest Canadians in History. Terry fox should be considered as the greatest Canadian in the world, because he demonstrated a set of sports skills, interest and determination, which also makes him one of the top athletics in Canada. At young age, Terry loved sports, such as Baseball, Basketball, Soccer, and Rugby. But soon after receiving an amputation, after the rehabilitation and during the chemotherapy treatment, the only sport he could play was Wheelchair Basketball. Despite being not a significant sports in the sports department, Terry trained really hard, and soon found that his hands were bleeding and fully blistered from having all the practice sessions. Soon the worked paid off, as he was able to compete in the national wheelchair basketball championships, furthermore, his team, Cable Cars won three national championships, making it one of the successfully teams in the Wheelchair Basketball division. Later on in 1979, Terry was chosen for the all-star team of the North American Wheelchair Basketball Association, making him extremely energetic on playing wheelchair basketball sports.
