One might be surprised to find out that members of the house of representatives and senate are allowed to serve an unlimited number of two and six year terms respectively. There may be many reasons for why term limits were not woven into the constitution originally but one thing is for sure, career politicians are a problem. Creating term limits for congress will not be easy due to the fact that it would require the constitution to be amended. Fortunately, there are two ways of accomplishing this goal. Term limits were a part of the Articles of Confederation but they did not make it into constitution. In other words, in order to create term limits, the constitution would have to be amended. This is exactly what is being pushed by President Trump right now. However, this route is very unlikely and the simple answer for why is that Congress doesn't want to. The chances of two-thirds of both he House of Representatives and Senate voting for term limits are slim to none. Luckily there is one more way to amend the constitution. In article five it says if “two-thirds of the several states” call a convention for proposing Amendments and then ratify that proposed amendment with at least seventy-five percent of the states then that Amendment becomes a law. My idea for an amendment and solution to this issue comes in three parts. First of all, we should limit the Senate and House to two six year terms. If both members of the House and Senate only needed to be re-elected once they would spend less time campaigning and more time focusing on the issues at hand. This would also reduce the chance of them being corrupted because they would only be in office for twelve years total. I also believe we should raise their salaries. By paying them more we would also reduce their chances of being corrupted by special interest groups and lobbyists. The idea would be to compensate them generously for working hard in the short time they would be allowed in office. This would also give them extra money to spend on their re-election if they chose to do
