Teen Abstinence Many teenagers choose to have sex before they marry, not considering the responsibilities or dangers that are then placed in hand. Having sex comes with the potential of pregnancy, disease, and emotional harm. Waiting after marriage to participate in any form of sexual intercourse, or abstinence, is the only 100% chance of avoiding these things. There are many pros that come with abstaining as a teen and young adult. Abstinence can decrease the pressures and concerns on a teen that come with sex, including the following: psychological problems, anger, loneliness, depression, and even suicide(“Benefits” 1). But the other half end in many different situations. Couples that have sex before they are married have a bigger chance of breakup or future divorce. With teens, their parents relationships are very influential and can change views on sex and abstinence. If the parents are good encouragers, the child will most likely have a better mind of premarital sex. Christianity is a religious view that promotes sexual impurity.“For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexuel immorality; that each of you know how to control his body in holiness and honor.”-1 Thessalonians 4:3-4. This abstinence is respecting one's body and the purity God gave to humanity. Keeping the body completely clean and unseen is complete sexual abstinence. God made sex in a beautiful way, but only in marriage does he see it glorious. Another promotion of abstinence is fear. Because teens are worried and afraid of other people’s opinions, some turn to abstinence to avoid a bad reputation or rumors(“Benefits”1).
