Technology is a necessary part of all aspects of social work today. Social workers use technology in many areas from booking appointments and online filing to online counseling sessions. The use of technology in the professional world of social workers spans over many areas of social work and the different ways that each of those areas uses technology. Not only is it important for social workers to understand technology for their professional life, but private and personal technology has been and continues to grow daily.
The main idea that the author of the podcast, Dr. Faye Mishna, wanted to address was the positive side of technology in the professional lives of social workers. While there are many articles and workshops on social media and technology many of them focus solely on the negatives without addressing any of the positives that comes with technology in the workplace. Within her main point she talks on certain issues such as privacy, meeting the client where they are on a technological level, and even in ways of

Mishna was a refreshing view since most professionals tend to frown upon technology and how involved it is in society today. She focused on the positives of technology and even social media. Professionals can find many ways to incorporate technology in a healthy and helpful way. One point she made specifically was about meeting the client where they are which is a new perspective compared to the way technology is viewed by most people. I personally agree with her perspective on technology and focusing on the positives instead of the negatives. Realizing and understanding the advantages that there are in using technology instead of only looking at the complications and rules about what you shouldn’t be doing with the technology is must more helpful and constructive. This perspective is applying strength based practice to not only our clients but the ways we reach out to our clients and interact with them as
Our modern day society depends on technology for everything, can anyone imagine a life without their phone or computer? Probably not, social media and other popular applications have become so ingrained into our daily lives. Not only can we connect with people anytime throughout the day but we also have so many useful applications that help us on a daily basis. Thinking back to when I was eight years old, I couldn 't wait for sixth grade because my parents had promised to get me a cell phone, I remember counting down the days till the summer of fifth grade was over because I already knew which cell phone I wanted. Once I got it I couldn’t stop showing my mom all of the cool things it could do. Which looking back at it today, it really couldn
The social safety net has grown to include and protect a diverse group of people of all ages. Social workers have become vital to older persons who need long term care, persons struggling with addictions, and communities that are devastated by natural disasters, acts of terrorism, and violent tragedies
Social Work - What is Social Work? Yourself. According to Dudley (2016), research tools help us to define the concepts we use in social work in an accurate and consistent way, whether in our informal conversations with each other or in various work activities. As a social worker, one cannot comprehend how vast the knowledge of research work impacts the profession.
Social workers in the healthcare field can be very beneficial to an interdisciplinary team. Throughout the semester we have looked at how social workers bring their professional and distinct skill set and beliefs to these teams. There are many stereotypes and biases surrounding social workers and other professionals on interdisciplinary teams. Social workers also have different views than other healthcare professionals and use their skills in communication to help the clients they serve, along with various other skills that are unique to social workers differing from other professional in the healthcare field. A social worker’s skill set can be extremely useful when working with specific populations at risk. The relationship between health and the role of the social worker can be different from other social worker roles in different fields. However, it is clear that social workers and interdisciplinary teams can be beneficial for everyone.
Social workers specialize in treating all types of clients. Regardless of their specialty, all social workers have common tasks. When they get new clients, social workers, both in the military and...
Social workers must be very goal oriented with high leadership abilities. “Being a leader in a multidisciplinary therapy industry requires clinical social workers to use networking skills so that each clinical social worker is well connected in the community” (Roberts and Greene, 7). Employers want people who are able to stand up to the demands of the public and to be able t...
Identify and explain the three major sources of conflict and misinterpretations in social work practice: culture-bound values, class bound values, and language variables.
Social Workers are very important to everyday life. They are the ones that help people in need when they have nobody else to turn too. Also, they provide resources and better understanding of predicaments that you could be experiencing. I will reflect on how the class has affected me, my own experiences and how some theories have connected to my life experiences, and lastly, if the class helped toward my major. This class is important for someone that wants to become a social worker and wants to learn about the different theories used. Also, learning about me during this process of completing this class is fun and a way to see if the social work profession is right for me. There was many theories explained throughout this class but many will not be said because it wasn’t the main points that I was trying to get across. There are two tools that are used that can help a social worker organize a client’s life: Bubble map and Briefcase exercise. There are so many different ways a social worker can help a client deal with their problems and come up with a solution. It is up to that social worker to identify the client’s problem and see what theory fits.
Social work is a multifaceted, ever adapting profession, which has had many purposes and identities through the years. It is imperative for the vocation to constantly evolve alongside the social climate and the new ways in which we identify and treat those who are in need of support. Social workers can be required to take on the role of counsellor, advocate, case-worker, partner, assessor of risk and need, and at times (as the government seeks to push social work further and further towards the health and education sectors) a servant of the state. The profession is dramatically subject to affection by societal change, thus demanding social workers have a duty to be up to date with the latest developments in understanding how and why people get to the point of requiring social work intervention, and how best to prevent and cater for it.
The movement has moved across hardware, digital applications, and into what can be described as accessible and mobile implementations. The enhancements to practice are a matter of harnessing the strengths that the tools provide (Schoech, 2014). Within social work use of technology there are various means to utilize the innovations. According to Jaskyte (2012), technology can be used as an administrative or operational function, promoting a message of support and advocacy, or as a means of direct service delivery. This ultimately creates and allows organizational structure to flourish in an effective manner and be able to survive the vastly expanding technological world (Mano, 2009). The integration of innovative advancements ultimately lends themselves to being tools for change
Over the course of the semester, I have learned a variety of many things regarding social work. These things vary from learning how to help oneself to understanding how to help others. Not only were the textbooks very useful, but also the materials that furthered this textbook learning. The in class presentation, activities, and guest speakers gave us insight and a different perspective on the material we were learning. I feel like this course has given me a good foundation and prepared me as a future social worker (1).
Today, Americans are faced with the increasing change of technology in our everyday life. Sometimes the change happens and we do not realize how it affects our lives. I think it is always a good idea to talk to someone that is older than yourself, like your grandparents to remind you of the times in their younger years. Hopefully, that will open your eyes to the changes we face in this generation and the generation to come. In this chapter, the author explores the relationship of changing technology to changes in both the environment and social institutions.
Technology is truly taking a turn for the worst on mental health. Technology is the future, it’s supposed to be the greatest thing to ever happen. Although technology may be helping the world out, it is hurting the people who use it. Technology is taking over lives and damaging mental health, it is the main cause of mental health issues and it needs to be taken seriously. Technology is not beneficial for mental health because it is causing isolation, depression, and mental illness in children.
A) Social workers “promote social change...the empowerment and liberation of people” (International federation Of Social Workers 2014, para 1);
The social work profession is defined as “a practice-based profession and an academic discipline that promotes social change and development, social cohesion, and the empowerment and liberation of people (ISFW, ‘Global Definition of Social Work’, 2016).” The definition may be true about the profession but it is more in depth than just that. To me, the profession’s primary focus is to help others through life as much as we can while letting them make their own choices and guiding them. In society, social workers are utilized in many different nonprofit and government roles. They serve the community in many different ways from monitoring parent visits to helping people through mental illnesses. Human beings are so complex and things that happen
