In the book, Golden Boy by Tara Sullivan tells the story of a young thirteen-year-old, named Habo, who has always been different. His eyes are light, his hair yellow, and he has really white skin. The kind of skin that burns easily in the sun and that makes the kids at his school call him ghost boy and refuse to play with him. His family betrays and dislikes him for being an albino. (also known as zeruzeru-which literary means zero-zero) With their farm failing in a small Tanzanian village, they take refuge in Mwanza, a fishing town. However, they kill albinos in Mwanza. This was a British passenger liner that sank in the North Atlantic Ocean in the early morning of 15 April 1912, after colliding with an iceberg during her maiden voyage from Southampton, UK to New York City, US. It hit the iceberg at around 11:40 P.M. at night (ship's time) and sank about two hours and a forty minutes later. We all know the story, most of the people died that were onboard (705 survivors) and one thousand five hundred twenty-two passengers died. Elizabeth Shutes and her family were traveling. She is one of the few survivors and being put in a lifeboat seemed impossible with all the people onboard as the water was slowly infesting the enormous ship that night. Likewise, Habo runs from this man at all costs. He never gave up on the the unimaginable and still keeps fighting for it. Indeed, he was always different from the rest, but he never gave up on finding his place in the world. Like in the Titanic, Habo fights when the stakes are survival itself. Even without help, he manages to flee from Alasiri and find a better life elsewhere. At this point, he even attempts to find a place and investigate for a place for albinos in the world. Just like Elizabeth found her place on the lifeboat, he fought for survival and hope for his life.
