The Polaroid Picture Mystery: Most people love a good murder story, the blood, finding the killer, finding the kidnapper, and most of all the suspense before finding out they are dead or not. But are they still as entertaining when the story is actually a reality? When that person that you loved was taken from you; when a college girl named Tara Calico disappears. Who took her,is she suffering, and most importantly is she still alive. Who was Tara Calico? Tara Calico was a hard working college student, who enjoyed riding her bike. Tara was on her way home from college and from her job when she suddenly disappeared and no one ever saw her again. Almost a year later a woman went to go shopping and stepped out of her car and found a polaroid picture of what investigators still believe is the missing Tara Calico and another boy who they believe is missing Michael Henley, who …show more content…
went missing a few months back from his campground. The picture that they believed has those two missing children was a picture of the two tied up on a bed with duct tape over their mouths. Many people believe that that small polaroid picture found is in fact Tara and Michael Henley, “everything in that small picture matched to what investigators and Tara’s mother believed could be her the eyes, the hair, the skin complexion, a scar on the right leg, the picture even had a book lying next to the kids, called” My Sweet Audrina” V.C.
Andrews.”(crimefeed.com) But how could that boy be Michael Henley? That little boy that went missing camping at the family's campground in Zunis Mountain, New Mexico. “In 1990 detectives found little Michael Henleys dead a few miles from the families campground. They indicated that he passed from dehydration and starvation, no foul play.”(crimefeed.com) Investigators are now very confused, the boy they thought was missing is now dead. When investigators started asking for leads of who that boy could be anyone now, some person unidentified sent in a picture of a boy with black markings over his mouth and the boy looked exactly like the boy in the 1st polaroid picture, but investigators still can not figure out who the boy in the picture really
is. Is it really that had to find out who took Tara? The case is still open for both Tara and Michael, but we can not find out exactly what happened unless someone gives good hints about what happened. Some leads did come in about how a witness claims he saw a white Toyota cargo van, with a mustache, and appeared to be in his 30’s. As the story changes and the people in those pictures are for sure 100% positive that those are the right kids, we will never know what happened to Tara and where she went. And after all this evidence of Tara’s disappearance, we still haven't had a big break in the case to fully solve this crime. The mystery still remains who, when, and exactly where Tara and the mysterious little boy have been taken. The small pieces of evidence investigators have found like the polaroid pictures and the witness who thought he saw a man take her; Haven't provided the exact information that is needed. Will we ever find Tara Calico, dead or alive?
Cloud Times Staff). Since the tire tracks were fresh and a police bloodhound sent from Minneapolis was able to track Wetterling’s scent until the middle of the driveway, the theory of an escape vehicle seemed rational (St. Cloud Times Staff). Many authorities and volunteers were involved in the search for Jacob Wetterling, including FBI, local and state officers, two helicopters, 240 National Guard members and officials on terrain vehicles. Law enforcement gathered information from locals in hopes of receiving something that could help lead to the gunman’s identity. Three days following the abduction, locals report of seeing an unsual red vehicle driving around town six weeks, two weeks and then a day prior to Jacob Wetterling’s abduction; therefore, every red vehicle in the area was searched (St. Cloud Times Staff). Locals also reported sightings of three men: one known to creepily leer at visiting customers and the other two to be owners of the reported vehicles. Authorities combined the police sketches of these men due to belief the three sightings could be the same man and released the sketch to the public on November 23 (St. Cloud Times Staff). On December 14, two months after Jacob Wetterling’s disappearance, a man from Cold Spring, Minnesota, approached authorities with information about his case of
She was almost a completely different person than the one that Mark Fossie once knew and had fallen in love with. It wasn’t long until she disappeared again. Mark, Rat, and Eddie(another friend of Mark) went after her. The found her by following the music. They were not prepared for what they found.
Adam John Walsh was born on November 14, 1974, he was 6 years old when he was kidnapped and killed. Adam was abducted from a Sears parking lot on July 27, 1981 in Hollywood, Florida. His severed head was found in a drainage canal off of the Florida turnpike two weeks later by 2 fishermen. Adam Walsh’s story was turned into a t.v. show called Adam. 38 million people have watched Adam since it first aired in 1983. Adam’s father, John Walsh, became an advocate for victims of violent crimes and is the host of the television show, America’s Most Wanted. Convicted serial killer, Ottis Toole, confessed to Adam’s murder, but was never convicted.
Alicia Pereira was the first. In 1972, five-year-old Alicia disappeared after her brother left her alone in a hotel lobby. One minute she was playing around, and the next she was gone. Rand was the prime suspect in this case. Although they never proved Andre killed her, little Alicia was never seen again. There isn't much to his next victim. Her name was Audrey Lyn Nerenberg, and she was 18 years old. Just like Alicia, Audrey was never seen again after the day she went missing in 1977. In 1981, Holly Ann Hughes, a seven-year-old girl did not return home after she went with a friend to get candy from a local store. Andre Rand saw Holly at the store, drove by her in his Volkswagen, pulled her in, and drove off. Holly’s parents filled out a Missing Person’s report. Unfortunately, they never got their daughter back. Why did Rand leave her friend? Who knows why. Tiahease Jackson, in 1983, was 11 years old when she went missing. She did not return home after her mother sent her to get groceries. Tiahease was last seen on August 14th, 1983. This was 12 days after Andre was released from a previous prison sentence. Like Alicia, Audrey, and Holly, Tiahease was never seen again. Henry was his oldest victim, at the age of 22. In 1984, Henry Gafforio disappeared. Some say, Henry was “slow.” Not physically slow, but mentally slow. He was last seen with Rand at a local diner. Now this next
“Baby Face” Nelson’s shredded body was discovered today, lying naked in a ditch near Niles, Illinois, after a deadly encounter with 2 FBI agents yesterday, November 27,1934. The FBI agents, Sam Cowley and Herman Hollis, were also tragically killed in the crossfire.
In Walt Harrington’s True Detective, the article centers on the character Victor Smith, better known as V.I., who is a detective who investigates cases of homicide. This article was effective in allowing the readers to understand the perspective of a homicide detective and the many cases they undergo. However, it was difficult to find a connection with this article, because I have no experience with homicide or murder cases apart from what I have seen from the media and TV shows. I was still able to enjoy True Detective, as it described the daily lives of the detectives from Homicide North.
The stories can be completely true, completely fictional, or a mixture of both but no matter what as long as there is someone around who reads the story, the characters are saved from their “deaths.” The people or characters go on to live in the hearts and minds of the readers, who can go back on the journey again as long as they pick up the book and turn the pages. The stories may not all be factual or about real people, but the effect the stories have on the readers is what makes all stories true and really and is what saves us
The story of the years before his disappearance and his actual disappearance seem like they came out of a Hollywood movie script. The suspects in the case, Russell Bufalino, Anthony
This theory suggests that Brianna was kidnapped by local drug dealers and killed. Brianna was reported to experiment with drugs such as marijuana and crack cocaine and was “friends” with drug dealers although, her parents were not aware of this just like most parents. The evidence to help this theory is that a few days after she went missing the police department received an anonymous phone call stating in great detail how two drug dealers kidnapped her, kept her in their basement for a few days of torturing, then eventually got cut up into pieces and fed to the pigs. These two drug dealers are known as Ramon Ryans and Nathaniel Jackson. Upon receiving the tip, officers quickly responded and got a warrant to search their residence. Eventually no evidence of a kidnapping was found although officers did manage to find a substantial amount of drugs so both Ramon and Nathaniel were charged. It turns out that a few years later Ramon Reyes would be charged with a murder charge. To me this theory would make sense because maybe Brianna owed them a large amount of money or maybe she knew something that she could use against them. Either way Ramon ended up getting the justice that he
The story of Ryan Ferguson is a bizarre case that many find difficult to comprehend. In 2001, a murder was committed and although DNA evidence was left behind, no suspects were found. The case became cold, until two years later when an anonymous call came saying that the murderer was Charles Erickson. Apparently, Chuck Erickson blacked out the night of Halloween and thought that he may have committed the crime because he was in the vicinity of the scene. When interrogated, his story was loose and full of doubts.

Imagine a little boy going missing at the age of seven, and whom has remained missing for the past seven years. This is exactly what happened to Kyron Horman, a seven year old boy who went missing on June 4, 2010 from Skyline Elementary. Kryon was last seen that morning with his stepmom, Terri Moulton Horman, on June 4th at his school’s science fair before he went missing. Police officers and search and rescue members have been looking for him since 2010, but he is still nowhere to be found. There are many theories behind his disappearance.
Melissa Bathelemy came next. She was twenty-four, and went missing in July of 2009. Megan Waterman was a twenty-two year old, who went missing in June of 2010. Amber Lynn Costello, a twenty-seven year old woman who went missing in September 2010. All four of the women were connected, little did they know. All four women were strangled, and advertised their services on Craigslist. No one really knows if all the bodies and remains are from the same killer, but most suspect they are. The next remains that will be mentioned, seem to have been a while before the four women who were strangled. The modus operandi seemed to have changed, beginning with Maureen Brainard-Barnes. Jessica Taylor was killed when she was twenty years old. Some of her remains were found in 2003, while the rest were found with the other victims. The remaining victims have yet to be identified, but were located either with the rest of the bodies, or washed up on shore. Jane Doe 6 was presumed to be killed between the ages of eighteen and thirty-five. Her remains were discovered in 2000. A young Asian male victim was presumed to be killed between the ages of seventeen and twenty-three. The body of a young child was found near the remains of the Asian man. The child was estimated between the ages of sixteen to twenty-four months old at the time of death. One of the bodies found in

I enjoyed this story and whislt reading it I wondered if it was a good detectivew story and therefore I compared it to W.H. Audens description of a detective story. Which is "A murder occurs; many are suspected; all but one suspect, who is the murderer, are eliminated; the murderer is arrested or dies." While a murder does occur and many are suspected but that is were the similarity ends. Because the suspects are not eliminated down to a single criminal and a murderer is not arrested or dies. Perhaps this is because Agatha Christie believed that the outcome does not always have to do justice in accordance with the law and rather that it is morally right.
