Tao from the Incredible Journey and Jonas from The Giver both play very important parts in their stories. Tao is a Siamese cat who takes a long journey with two other animals to get back home to his owner. Jonas is a boy who lives in a community that is very restricted and has taken away most of life's experiences, but Jonas wants to change that. Tao from The Incredible Journey and Jonas from The Giver have a few similarities and differences.
Tao has several similarities to Jonas from The Giver. For example, in The Incredible Journey Sheila Burnford wrote, “The cat must have sensed this general failing, for he now walked steadily beside the dogs, very close to his tottering old friend, and uttered plaintive worried bleats.” This quote shows

that Tao is caring, because he was getting worried for his friend, so he tried to stay close to him as the old dog started getting very weary. Jonas is also caring just like Tao, because Jonas wouldn’t leave behind Gabe or let the community release him. In addition, in The Incredible Journey it states, “The wing sprang back softly from his mouth as he gazed transfixed at the scene before him. In one split second a terrible transformation took place; his blue eyes glittered hugely and evilly in the black masked face, and every hair on the wheat-colored body stood upright so that he appeared twice his real size; even the chocolate-colored tail puffed up as it switched from side to side.” In this scene Tao walks in on a bear cub attacking his old friend, Bodger, and Tao jumps into action and attacks the bear cub. This shows that Tao is protective and that he is like Jonas, because Jonas tried his best to protect Gabriel from anything along their journey to find the sled on the hill. In summary, Jonas and Tao are alike in many ways. Tao from The Incredible Journey also has some differences to Jonas from The Giver.
For example, Sheila Burnford writes in The Incredible Journey, “Both dogs were very hungry and watched enviously when the cat caught and killed a chipmunk while they were resting by a stream in the middle of the day. But when the old dog advanced with a hopeful wag of his tail, the cat, growling, retreated into the bushes with his prey.” This quote shows that Tao is greedy, because he didn’t share his food with his two hungry friends. On the other hand, Jonas isn’t greedy and usually thinks more about others than himself. In The Giver Jonas has the chance to give all the memories of life back to his community, so he makes a long and hard journey for his community to give the memories back to them. In addition, in The Incredible Journey it states, “Then he stretched himself luxuriously, and with a final gesture of contempt turned his back on the lynx and dug into the earth with his hind claws to send a last shower of dirt over the animal’s face. That done, he continued on his way, cool and assured as ever.” In this scene Tao has just been chased by a lynx, who was trying to kill him, but then the lynx was instead killed by two hunters. After the hunters left, Tao kicks dirt over the animal's face, which shows that Tao may be a little spiteful. While Tao may be spiteful, Jonas isn’t spiteful in The Giver. Jonas wasn’t ever mischievous and usually always followed the rules of the community up until he met the Giver. To sum up, Tao has many differences from Jonas.
In conclusion, Jonas from The Giver and Tao from The Incredible Journey have many similarities and differences. Without these characters these stories wouldn’t be complete. Tao is very important to his friends survival throughout their journey and Jonas is the one who was brave enough to stand up against his community. Both of these characters show us that with determination you can do what you want to
achieve.
Here are the flashbacks and foreshadowing. One of the similarities is they both had to do with animals and their parents telling them something. The other is that they have flashbacks of animals. Those are the similarities with flashbacks and foreshadowing.
You’ll now find out the simularites of the giver and the truman show. Jonas and Truman’s stories are both about them, therefore they are the main characters. They are somewhat alike, but so much different. Both Truman and Jonas plan to escape.
One similarity is that Dally and Johnny do not have very great homelives. For example, Dally parents do not seem to care for him. Dally does not live with his parents and stays anywhere he can. Dally was arrested at the age of ten, which shows that no one was looking for him. Dally says to Johnny, “‘Shoot, my old man don’t give a hang whether I’m in jail or dead in a car wreck
The Giver is about a boy named Jonas who was chosen to be the community’s next Receiver of Memory. He lived in a community where everything was chosen for the citizens, and everything was perfect. During Jonas' training, he realized that the community was missing something and that there was more in the world. Jonas wanted everybody to know that. The Giver book was then made into a movie. Though the two were based with the same story plot, there are three important differences that results with two different takes on the same story. The three main differences between the book and the movie are Asher and Fiona's Assignments, the similarity all Receivers had, and the Chief Elder's role.
People change over time. It's inevitable, time helps people grow. In the beginning of The Giver by Lois Lowry, Jonas played it safe, but after being chosen as the Receiver, he becomes more aware of the conflicts in his community.
The apple in The Giver symbolizes change. In Jonas’s visions he “had noticed, following the path of the apple through the air with this eyes, that the piece of fruit had-well, this was the part he couldn't adequately understand - the apple had changed. Just for an instant.” (21-22) This shows Jonas has the power to see beyond, he is experiencing the color red. Change may happen even by accident but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s bad. Such as in this case where changing continuously allowed Jonas to help others constantly by taking the burden of all the pain in the world because of a mistake in genetic engineering. As you can tell sameness, precision, and indistinguishable people doesn’t mean perfection. Change is necessary to allow everyone a chance to grow, to experience, to grow as a person and in their jobs, to be unique, and different. That way
The Giver: Analysis of Jonas On the surface, Jonas is like any other eleven-year-old boy living in his community. He seems more intelligent and perceptive than many of his peers, and he thinks more seriously than they do about life, worrying about his own future as well as his friend Asher’s. He enjoys learning and experiencing new things: he chooses to volunteer at a variety of different centers rather than focusing on one, because he enjoys the freedom of choice that volunteer hours provide. He also enjoys learning about and connecting with other people, and he craves more warmth and human contact than his society permits or encourages. The things that really set him apart from his peers—his unusual eyes, his ability to see things change in a way that he cannot explain—trouble him, but he does not let them bother him too much, since the community’s emphasis on politeness makes it easy for Jonas to conceal or ignore these little differences.
Jonas is the protagonist in The Giver. He changes from being a typical twelve-year-old boy to being a boy with the knowledge and wisdom of generations past. He has emotions that he has no idea how to handle. At first he wants to share his changes with his family by transmitting memories to them, but he soon realizes this will not work. After he feels pain and love, Jonas decides that the whole community needs to understand these memories. Therefore Jonas leaves the community and his memories behind for them to deal with. He hopes to change the society so that they may feel love and happiness, and also see color. Jonas knows that memories are hard to deal with but without memories there is no pain and with no pain, there is no true happiness.
In the book, The Giver, Jonas is portrayed as a kind, curious and rebellious individual with a keen sense of awareness. The beginning chapters revealed Jonas as a very naive and compliant person, similar to everyone else in his community. Instances, when he was a child and got reprimanded for small misunderstandings, made him like this. However, throughout the book, Jonas has grown into an independent and determined person, someone who wants to make a change. Jonas finds new strengths in his character which forms him into someone spectacular and distinctive.
I will be comparing Jackie from “the busy blue jay” and the rabbit from “The Velveteen Rabbit”. The author in “the busy blue jay” is olive thorn miller. This story is about a blue jay that was abandoned by his parents then a girl found him and is now his owner. He is a very active bird he always finds something to do. That is a little bit about jakie from “the busy blue jay”. The author from the velveteen rabbit is Margery williams. This story is about a rabbit that is abandoned by his owner since he was shabby and full of germs. He was abandoned because they thought the bunny gave his owner the scarlet fever. That is a little about the rabbit from “the velveteen rabbit”. The two characters have many similarities and also have many differences.
Jonas was an obedient kid and mature person, he was also clever and always obeyed the rules in his community. The only thing he was worried about was if he would have a good job. Jonas viewed his society the way everyone else did , but it changed when he first experienced his transference of the memories .
Have you ever wondered why the lions of Tsavo attacked the men who were building the railroad, or why Kevin Richardson is such good friends with lions? In Attack of the man Eaters it focuses on Colonel Patterson and how they’re being attacked by 2 lions in Tsavo. Meet the Lion Whisperer focuses on Kevin Richardson and how he tries to save the lions from canned hunts, and all the other bad things they do to the lions. In Attack of the man Eaters they saw the 2 lions as devils, because they were dragging people out of their tents and eating them at night time. In Meet the Lion Whisperer the guy thinks of the lions as friends, and plays with them on a daily basis.
Stephen King once said, “Books and movies are like apples and oranges. They are both fruit, but taste completely different.” There are many astonishing differences between the movie and the book The Giver. Jonas being eighteen years old in the movie and twelve years in the book is an example of a difference. A similarity between the novel and the film is that they both share Jonas, Fiona, and Asher as being close friends.
Tao has several similarities to Jonas from The Giver. For example, in The Incredible Journey Sheila Burnford wrote, “The cat must have sensed this general failing, for he now walked steadily beside the dogs, very close to his tottering old friend, and uttered plaintive worried bleats.” This quote shows
Movie The Giver, directed by Phillip Noyce, is based on Lois Lowry’s book and tells the story how the perfect world would look like. Where everyone is happy, safe, and there is no pain. Jonas is the main character and I will be analyzing how his values and beliefs changes though the movie. This movie is interesting because everyone lives within boundaries where past memory does exist just for the chosen ones. Jonas is one of those people who learns past wisdom and suffers while trying to understand what is the right thing to do.
