Taking Away Honors Classes

Should gifted/honors classes be taken away for equality? I believe that advanced students are in these classes to be challenged and surrounded by peers they know are reliable academically. Surprisingly, schools are taking away honors classes, which would hold back students. Honors classes also lead to success, and create proper learning environments., These are all reasons as to why we shouldn't take away honors classes. In schools all over the world, gifted classes are being taken away and it is not helping, people such as Ryan Ripepi from Eagles Media Center claims, ”While the honors program does allow motivated students to pursue more advanced classes, the way students are placed in the program is flawed. Changing the concept of what the students are learning to better fit kids who are not up to the honors kids would hold back honors kids, as Sushant says in the article. students don't like it, but the high school district says de-tracking freshman classes is working, “I’ve learned a myriad of indispensable skills from my advanced classes, such as analytical skills and critical thinking, and these are essential for college readiness,’ Sushant said. ‘The focus should not simply be on test scores and grades because college readiness and learning are not always reflected in these metrics.” Implying that without certain resources, students won't have the skill set necessary for them. Taking away honors classes helps no one, even if not all kids are able to be in honors classes, the kids that are will use their knowledge for the better and by tossing that all away, they are not achieving what is possible.
