Systemic Change
What Is It
To fully understand Systemic Change, one must first be able to distinguish systemic from systematic. The term systematic often is associated with images of a linear, generalizable model of how to do something. Systemic on the other hand implies a global conception of the problem and an understanding of the interrelationships and interconnections. (Carr 1996).
The systemic perspective in instructional design is traditionally limited to feedback via needs assessment or evaluation. The systematic perspective in instructional design, however, is strongly represented in a variety of step-by-step models. (Carr 1996)
Systemic thinking "requires keeping many aspects of the problem set in your head at one time. It is a community activity, not an individual one, with all the requisite challenges of any group task. Systemic thinking demands persistence, because to think systemically means to constantly reflect back to previous assumptions, and to be flexible enough to change thinking that has been agreed upon previously. (Reigeluth, Garfinkle 1994).
Using a systemic view, we develop ways of finding out about the mass of inter-relationships which exist between the different components of systems as well as finding out about the components themselves and we have to find out about the relationships which exist between the whole system and the environment in which it exists. (Bateson, 1979; Bawden 1991, Carr 1996)
There are two types of change. There is piecemeal change, often called tinkering, which entails modifying something (fixing a part of it) and there is systemic change, often called paradigm shift, which entails replacing the whole thing. Reigeluth, Garfinkle 1994).
Systemic change is comprehensive. It recognizes that a fundamental change in one aspect of a system requires fundamental changes in other aspects in order for it to be successful. In education, it must pervade all levels of the system: classroom, building, district, community, state government and federal government. And it must include the nature of the learning experiences, the administrative system that supports the instructional system, and the governance system that governs the whole educational system (Banathy, 1991, Reigeluth, Garfinkle 1994).
Systemic change is needed because of the paradigm shift that is occurring in education due to the information age. Although this paradigm shift in education is only a microcosm of the changes in society as a whole, these changes in society is making "the current educational system obsolete.
Basil Cell Carcinoma begins in the deepest layer of the epidermis of the skin. The epidermis is known as the top layer of the skin. The skin is composed of 3 layers, the epidermis, dermis and subcutaneous tissue. The basal layer which is part of the epidermis, there are cells called melanocytes, which produce a black pigment called melanin. Melanin is what protects your skin from over exposure to the sun’s ultraviolet rays. Over exposure of sunlight can reduce the melanin’s ability to absorb the sunlight and damage the skin. (2)
Annie Proulx, Edna Annie Proulx in full,was born August of 1935 in Norwich, Connecticut. Growing up, she was the oldest of five sisters. Her dad was vice president of a textile company. She moved around often as a child and attended to Colby College in Maine, where she met her first husband. Proulx left school, and began working various jobs. She then went on to the University of Vermont in 1963, and then George Williams University located in Montreal in 1973. In the early seventies, Proulx began writing articles in magazines such as Esquire and Country Journal. Her big breaks came when she had two stories published in The Best American Short Stories in 1983 and 1987. She wrote her first fiction book titled, Heart Songs and Other Stories in 1988. Her first novel, Postcards (1992), won a Pen/Faulkner award and she was the first woman to achieve this honor. The Shipping News, the story of Quoyle and his family who leave the United States move to Canada after the death of his wife, was awarded a Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award. Her next novel was Accordion Crimes, which follows an Old World accordion’s travels to the United States through the immigration of an Italian man. She has also published three collections of stories that take place in Wyoming’s vast landscapes, where Proulx settled in 1994. It includes Brokeback Mountain, the love story of Ennis del Mar and Jack Twist, which has since been adapted into a movie. In her most recent work, a memoir titled Bird Cloud (2011), she recollects the building of her home in Wyoming. The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM) of mental disorders is a widely used and popular text that lists and describes the various mental disorders and the criteria that resembles each one specifically. These series of manuals have had several major problems since their introduction and the latest edition which has yet to release still faces problems in terms of validity with the scientific community. By use of a diagnostic criterion they fail to incorporate many factors such as social influences, a scientific base, and distinction between the criteria for the different disorders. These are only a few of the problems facing the DSM but they may also be the most significant.
In my view, system-wide, large-scale reform is needed to achieve the goal of "getting all young people as close as possible to their upper limits of learning potentialities" (Perrone, p. 15, 1991). This is crucial to ensure change because "trying to transform schools within the existing structure is a contradictory process" (Murphy, p. 38, 1991). The first step is to involve the traditionally voiceless at all decision-making levels to best determine what the needs of the least privileged are, if we are truly committed to providing opportunities that respond to children's needs. I specify, "opportunities" through funding based on my assumption and belief that money can improve education through attracting and keeping good teachers, reducing class sizes, establishing programs to respond to different needs, and maintaining healthy facilities and quality resources. Equitable funding, where all children have the chance to receive a high-quality education, is the first step towards education acting as the great equalizer in a country where oppression limits, dehumanizes, and disempowers in virtually every other life realm.
Providing an all inclusive, concrete definition of what a mental disorder is a complicated task. Many factors are responsible for the development and presence of a disorder; therefore, pinpointing and providing a universal definition can be quite difficult. In order to provide a basic set of universal parameters in what constitutes and defines a mental disorder, The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) was developed in order to help clinicians and providers navigate the many disorders. While the DSM provides a definition of mental disorder, different perspectives of psychology offer various views of mental disorder.
After reading Joel Spring?s book, and reflecting on some of the issues facing our schools, it is apparent that our educational system requires much attention among our nation?s leaders. While the system has transformed in many beneficial ways, we are still plagued by the growing problems of society. I look forward to reading another book by Joel Spring, and developing my evolving understanding of the educational system within the United States.
Types of skin cancer are melanoma, and non-melanoma, which are basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. Melanoma is the rarer of the types and begins in the melanocytes or pigmented cells of the skin (National Cancer Institute, 2013). It is more serious than non-melanoma cancers because it can spread to other areas of the body. Non-melanoma cancers are more common and begin in the basal and squamous layers of the skin (National Cancer Institute, 2013). It is rare that this type of cancer spreads to any other area of the body.
Skin cancer is of three types: Basal cell cancer (BCC), Squamous cell carcinoma, and Melanomia. To begin, Basal cell cancer (BCC) is the most common of all cancers. It carries this name because it develops on the outermost layer of the epidermis. BCC is made of three types; the most common of skin cancer is Basal cell carcinoma. Basal cell carcinoma is a flesh colored (cream to pink), round, translucent tumour. Basal cell carcinoma tumors grow slowly sideways. The second type of BCC is the pigmented lesion that appears as a blue, brown, or black tumour, the third type of BCC is the superficial type that appears as a red often-scaly localized plaque. If BCC is not treated properly, it may crust, ulcerate, and sometimes cause bleeding ( Dollinger, 1995, P. 579).

This paper will define and explore the three major aspects of Gagné’s approach to instructional design, which include: nine events of instruction, conditions of learning and learning outcomes. How Gagné’s theory correlates to the Walter Dick and Lou Carey’s systems approach to instructional design will also be considered (Dick and Carey, 1996).
Instructional Design is a systematic approach to design, evaluation and management of instruction. It helps to facilitate learning in an effort to improve. There are many models that have been developed to assist in the design of instructional materials. This paper will compare three: ADDIE, ASSURE and Kemp with a focus on online learning.
Why do organizations change? With time goes by, rapid development of science and technology had led us to a world full of competitions. Change and stay alert to keep up with the current trend is essential asset to survive in this aggressive global economy. As the framework indicated by Pettigrew, there are two key context factors makes a great deal of effects on the reason for companies to change. Those are outer context and Inner context. Outer context could refer to the surrounding environment around the firm and the global economics status, etc. Inner context could be downsizing, restructuring the Gestalt, or the problem with coherent design archetype. Under the stress of the outer and inner context, forces or triggers will bring out the revolution. Change can be seen in a short term way and also in a long term way. Short term change could be a sudden, discontinuous and frame-breaking rupture which has an impact on the whole organisation, or new forms of management ad structure of the firm itself, or the breakthrough created by the major innovations or even can refers to the impact of new product and new market opportunities. Normally, financial crisis will be an initiative as a trigger to revolution. At first of the revolution, there would probably already has small changes in normal management and structure. As a long term way to apply the change, change agents are needed to do an ongoing, continuous and gradual progression or give some simpler initiatives such as improvements to existing products and product range.
The world is constantly changing in many different ways. Whether it is technological or cultural change is present and inevitable. Organizations are not exempt from change. As a matter of fact, organizations have to change with the world and society in order to be successful. Organizations have to constantly incorporate change in order to have a competitive advantage and satisfy their customers. Organizations use change in order to learn and grow. However, change is not something that can happen in an organization overnight. It has to be thought through and planned. The General Model of Planned Change focuses on what processes are used by the organization to implement change. In the General Model of Planned Change, four steps are used in order to complete the process of change. Entering and Contracting, Diagnosing, Planning and Implementing, and Evaluating and Institutionalizing are the four steps used in order to complete the process of change in an organization. The diagnostic process is one of the most important activities in OD(Cummings, 2009, p. 30).
In an age of rapid change due to so many technology and innovative advances, a revolutionary change in the educational system is as vital as what our next energy source is. Education is the most powerful wealth in the world and it demands more attention, and where better to start with than out youth. The school system will soon go out of date due to the information highway and information availability if there isn?t a dramatic change in the way things are run in our domestic institutional facilities. The reason why college was such a success in the 20th century was because books were all of a sudden available to students on university campus. Now with internet, a student could specialize their profession solely with the computer with the click of a button. Something needs to be done to smoothen the rigid gaps and cracks in the school system before the technological pace at which we are advancing decides to bring the whole thing down.

Unfortunately, the page limit for this paper would get in the way so the end shall go like this. The education that is in place now was put together in a different time and era. The time of the assembly line education is long gone; it is now the era for pushing children into advanced thinking and critical learning that the twenty-first century calls for. But the only thing that has been done with the education system is layer upon layer being added to nonworking, broken, old rules and higher standards for that system to work towards. The education system has not yet been brought into the modern world. It is a great feat that needs to be accomplished but it is not an impossible one.
