At first glance, Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance” would seem to be nothing more than just another vapid pop song. With its run-of-the-mill lyrics and catchy beat, it would appear that “Bad Romance” is no different from every other song on the market. However, upon closer inspection, “Bad Romance” and its music video explore the complex themes of fame, wealth, power, and freedom. The symbolism in this music video is very complex. As soon as the video begins, we see Gaga sitting on a throne surrounded by her entourage. She seems to be in a position of power and dominance, but as the video progresses, the true nature of Gaga’s situation is revealed. Shortly after this scene, we cut to a room revealed to be called “Bath Haus of Gaga.” This ‘bath
Rapper Trina’s March 2000 single “Da baddest b*tch”, proclaimed her as the Queen of Hip hop. “Da baddest b*tch” was a controversial song that made way for many criticisms. The rapper’s song endorsed the idea of women referring to themselves as “bad b*tches”, promoted promiscuous behavior and encouraged females both young and old to use men for money.
In today’s world, celebrities are often misunderstood, especially singer/songwriter Robin Rihanna Fenty, referred to as Rihanna. Rihanna’s sexual behaviors in her videos have been talked about in negative ways for some time now, but what [eople do not understand is that it is all for fame. Celebrities will do anything to keep their career going strong. If one really took the time out to take a deep look at Rihanna, they will notice how humble she really is. After going through the abusive relationship with Chris Brown, Rihanna has struggled with gaining that strong confidence with who she is. Her critics believe that she is still trying to discover herself and figure out who she really is as a person. Rihanna is often given two choices, to do what she is being asked to do, or throw her career out the window. She either gives the crowd the sexual acts they want or let her career die down. In the song “S&M,” Rihanna was really exposing herself to the crowd, as well as “Good Girl, Gone Bad.” She is basically telling the crowd that this is the person she is, but is it really? For my original piece I will be creating a journal, expressing the feelings Rihanna felt as she overcomes her struggles. Rihanna’s sexual behaviors in her videos are really all for fame and therefore, are easily misunderstood.
How the Trailers of Love Actually Represent a Stereotypical View of Modern Love and Relationships
We have more or less gender stereotype and create our own set of standards how men and women are supposed to behave. The music video delivers a weird impression that something is wrong with the story because the characters in the video are acting opposite from society’s expectations of gender stereotype. The video portrays a couple’s normal daily life, which may have been seen everywhere, and it’s nothing special except that the perspectives of males and females are opposite from what we would expect. The main cast includes Beyoncé as a wife who is a police officer and Eddie Goines as her supportive husband who works at an office. In the video, the storyline is slightly twisted because Beyoncé
What is considered evil? Is a person truly ever evil? If so, what leads into walking down this path? Could it possibly be a life-alternating event or influence from another outside force? Anti-transcendentalists believed in this presence of evil in humanity and that it was predominant in the lives of individuals. Anti-transcendentalists were the opposite of transcendentalists in terms of their overall views on life. Transcendentalists believed in the good or in other words, positive outlooks in life. Pop music has long been defined by “idols” and superstars that are subjects of high levels of adoration from severely devoted fans, whose love of these superstars often blurs the line between fandom and obsession. This love is mainly based off of physical looks and charm more often than actual musical talent, as majority of the songs written by these massive superstars are not written by the artists themselves, instead by people hired to write for these artists in a way that will best connect with a crowd willing to spend their money on these manufactured stars. Therefore, it has become evident that in the world of popular music, image has overtaken talent as the determining factor of success in the industry. Instead of skill and songwriting ability, good looks and the ability to draw large crowds of impressionable people have become the main factors of fame in music.

With names like “Rom Com” and “Chick Flick,” romantic comedies are often put in a silly or empty-headed light. Yet, these films continue to be made and people (women and men alike) keep seeing them because, “(audiences have) seen it in a hundred variations and know exactly how it ends... happily ever after.” (Mizejewski 17) And while people may know that real love doesn’t always end happily, the idea is too good to resist; audiences want to vicariously experience falling in love with the “perfect person” over and over again. Romantic Comedy has been a prominent film genre from the transition into “talkie” films to present day due to the fact that it is a genre that
A story of love, romance films often have the themes of love at first sight, young (and older) love, unrequited love, tragic love, etc. Romantic comedies and chick flicks are the main genres these themes. It is almost universally accepted that art sells an overly romanced picture of love. This is not, however, as Bottom believes, the problem: the. The real problem lies in the people who buy into this picture. When two lovers beginengage in a relationship, they expect it it to be just like in the books and movies they have read and watched,, and are therefore disappointed when they are presented with something so different from what they have been “taught”. Blindly believing art’s portrayal of love asBelieving that what art portrays is real love and aspiring to have relationships which are carbon copies of the ones in TV and in novels is what causes one’s love life to be problematic. Osborne (2012) research on how the portrayal of love in TV affects married couples showfound that the people who more firmly believedbelieve in the standards set by TV wereare the ones who are less committed to their partners. He continues on to state that the problem is not with the portrayal itself, but with couples insisting on comparing their own love life with the manufactured ones in
After watching “The Notebook” for the six hundredth time, with tears streaming down her face, a girl can finally declare it as being her favorite movie, and maybe even deem it as the best production ever created. The cliché motives of the woman always seem to involve love and a knight in shining armor. Naturally, every woman dreams about Mr. Right, and falling head over heels in love. This is why females are so vulnerable to passionate films. “My heart melted when I saw him kiss her like that.” Stereotyped as the hopeless romantics, girls live to love and be loved. Girls want relationships. Girls enjoy corny love movies. This is somewhat of an escape route for the girls, knowing that in reality, the average guy isn’t interested in a relationship, or falling in love. But for the sake of women, in the hours of our mourning, why not take advantage of the blockbusters while their...
