It is 9 A.M and I am 32,000 feet above the ground on my way to Chincoteague Island, Virginia. Chincoteague is by the Chesapeake Bay which empties into the Atlantic Ocean. I am exhausted from getting up at 5:30 so that we could be at the airport three hours early so that we could get through security. I have flown many times but after 9/11 it has been become more and more difficult to fly. My grandma is on my right reading her love novel and her friend Deloris is on my left falling in and out of sleep. I’m in the middle trying to sleep but am having a difficult time thanks to the two year old sitting behind me kicking my chair and screaming. I cannot wait to get off this plane; I can smell the germs floating around in the small, congested tunnel they call a airplane. It is now 3 P.M and we are finally out of the airport heading towards our cabin and all I can think about is “Let’s hit the beach!”
With my swim suit on and my towel in hand I yell, “Unpack later! We have a beach to get to!” My foot finally sinks into the hot Virginia sand. I stop to take a deep breath, soak in some sun, and then I run to the water, throwing my towel to my grandma. A wave come just as I’m running in and knocked me down. My eyes were stinging and I want to gag from the taste of the salt water, but after awhile you get used it. I feel so free moving back and forth with the waves. I’m swimming around when all of a sudden I hear my grandma yelling at me, when I look she is pointing behind me. I turn around and see a fin coming up over the crest of the wave about 30 feet behind me. I immediately panic! All I can think about is that it is a shark, so I start swimming as fast as I can back to shore. My heart is pounding, my breathing becomes very heavy, and...

...e sunrise from the beach. Now I’ve seen the sunrise before but there is something about seeing those beautiful shades of orange, red, and yellow as it reflects off the ocean’s surface. We had our toes in the sand and just sat back in our chairs. The breeze was blowing through our hair as it came off the ocean. With no one else in sight so we sat and listened to the ocean slap itself against the land. It was the perfect ending to a perfect vacation.
Every year my grandma takes one of her 13 grandchildren on a trip of their choice; just her grandkid and her. When it was finally my turn and I knew exactly where I wanted to go. Chincoteague Island provided me the ocean, the beach, and the great outdoors. The wild ponies were just an amazing added bonus. I recommend Chincoteague Island for anyone that need s to get away from the hustle and bustle of the average life.
I smiled to myself and decided that I would go join in. With that, I took a huge deep breath and jumped into the salty water. The water was cool and refreshing; I felt it slide through my hair making it sway in the water. I swam deeper and deeper into the deep blue water. Sunlight streamed through it, lighting up the water around me turning it to gold. I kicked harder and I felt my muscles surge with strength and I pushed further. My lunges began to burn for the need of oxygen, but I refused to go up. I repeatedly told myself just a little bit longer. Until I was unable to proceed anymore without more air in my lungs, I swam to the top of the water taking a huge breaths, filling my lungs with air. I could then taste the salty water as it ran down my face and dripped over my lips. Just then I thought, I will never forget this moment, this place, or the experiences I felt while visiting
...trength completely fails and he lets go and starts to drown and sink. to not save him but to continue to paddle and get to safety. I hold back tears with fire and brimstone and I start to paddle as if the devil were behind us even though I am feeling drained as well. After about another hour or so it seems we start closing in and my father feels sand brush his feet. We both let out a huge sigh of relief as my father finally touches the bottom. still being about a quarter mile from the shore we do sort of a “Island hop” with the sand patches and we make our way back from where we came. Once we get back we decide thats enough beach for the day and go home. Feeling victorious and defeated at the same time I still hold a scar within me. and within that scar there is a small dark hole within me that is afraid of the ocean. And to this day I fear I will forever be afraid.
I feel something brush over the top of my right foot. A sharp-tickling pain comes on the top of my foot. Quickly, I run out of the warm ocean water onto the dry sand. My mom notices something. “What is this?” she questioned. “It’s a jellyfish!”
The world was quiet, all that could be heard was the roaring of blood running through veins and gurgle of air bubbles as they ere released. Light filtered through the water causing it to glimmer. The water encased her like a cocoon, coercing her to close her eyes and relax. Warmth surrounded her, the burning in her lungs building. She knew that dying this way would be easy, quiet. No one would find out about it for some time, but there was a voice nagging in the back of her head telling her to get up. Before she could make the decision as to whether to remain in the warm water or not, strong hands where under her arms, pulling her out of the water and onto the tiled floor of the bathroom.
It was a murky overcast summer's eve; crisp morsels of rain splashed on the ground vigorously. Sounds of jet engines buzzed in the back of my ear lobes through the torrential downpour. The common sight of the departure time of our flight being delayed yet again caught my eye as we turned the corner towards the gate. Almost an hour later we began to finally line up at the gate to get on the what then seemed massive jet plane. I remember looking out the gigantic floor to ceiling windows at providence airport at the bright blue, red and orange of the jet, so excited to be going on it. Our family carefully chose seats right near the wing emergency exits. I rushed to the window seat, plopped down and buckled my seat belt. I was ready to go to Florida. I barely took up half of the seat, I was 8 or 9, and as a curious kid I was touching nearly anything I could put my hands on. I remember soon after we sat down in the back row on the left of the aircraft the same side as us, I heard a great commotion. A woman at the back was on the phone telling her friend she had drugs and she just took them. Not soon after three men boarded the plane. One had
It was a warm rainy June night the humidity was high which made it even harder to breathe on the crammed boat. My family was asleep on the constantly rocking boat suddenly the boat shook, but my family was still fast asleep. I couldn’t seem to fall asleep so I got up and stepped out on the cold wet steel boats upper deck to get some air. When I got outside I realized that it was pouring bucket sized rain. I saw increasingly large waves crash furiously against the lower deck. Hard water droplets pelted my face, I could taste the salt water in my mouth from the spray of the ocean. Suddenly A massive wave slammed hard against the ship and almost swallowed the boat. Wind gusts started kicking up. I held onto the rail grasping it as if it were my prized possession. Suddenly I was blown
When I stepped out of the door on that Saturday morning the weather could not have been any better. The sun had only been in the sky for a few hours so the air was still cool. The mix of sunshine and a slight breeze hit my face at the same moment and it felt superb. The short walk across the driveway that I had to take to get in car felt like ages.
I can’t wait until we reach America, when our lives will change for the better. We are in the dining room, enjoying a lovely dinner that consists of bread and mashed potatoes. My brothers and I are talking about what we will do once we reach America. Then, all of a sudden, we hear a loud noise. Bang! A huge vibration ran through the room, and instantly I know something is wrong. Maybe it is instinct, or maybe it is just my imagination after what my family has been through, but I know something is not right. I raced to the top deck with my brothers in tow, and we took the steps two at a time. There, we saw people running frantically and gathering women and children. Mothers were grabbing their children, and shoving them on life rafts. A man grabbed my shoulders, and when I looked at him, he looked to be someone official.

I turned off the car and took a deep breath. Looking slowly up into the pink sky, I began to watch the golden sun go to sleep. The beach seemed deserted, quiet, but peaceful. I opened my door and put my feet out on the soft sand. I started taking my shoes off, then my socks. I threw them in the passenger seat, and then shut the door. I looked out over horizon of the lake and started walking towards the still water. With each step I took, I could feel the warm sand crunch between my toes. Then suddenly, a sharp rock, but not sharp enough to break the skin.
The dull light of the sun somehow manages to kindle my senses in a way I had never seen or felt before. Everything felt like it came to a standstill and the effect of the light made the scene look like one in a painting. The waves break gently into white foam on the black beach. The small crystals in the sand glimmer and twinkle brilliantly against the sunrays. The seagulls ride with the wind and the soft sand cushions my toes.
The flight to London felt like it took forever, we were all so tired and just wanted to take a shower and go to bed, but we had to get off that plane and get on another going to Scotland. When we finally landed in Scotland, I couldn’t believe I was actually in a foreign country, I was so excited. The first thing I did when we landed in Scotland was to look through the window, of course what I saw were other airplanes and men running around getting luggage and showing planes to the terminal. After we got all of our luggage and the rental car, we walked outside, as I looked around, I could see so much green in the distance; so many different colors of green. I had never seen so much beauty in one place.
I will never forget the first time I went snorkeling, it was something I had been afraid to do up until the moment I touched the water. Beforehand all I could think about was what if I got attacked by a shark? I was too young to die and I felt like I was tempting fate. Then once I made the plunge into the water everything washed away, as if the waves carried the fear with them as they folded over me. I remember that day so clearly, rocking back and forth, up and down, I sat on a small glass bottom boat. The enormous ocean waves making me nauseas as I put my snorkel gear on. I hurried as fast as I could, knowing my nausea would go away as soon as I entered the water. This wasn’t the first time I have gotten sea sick, but it only shows up when the boat is sitting still. As soon as I got my equipment on I jumped into the water, fins first. I felt the sensation of goose bumps shivering up my whole body, tiny bubbles rolling over my body from breaking the surface, they ran from my toes upwards to break free at the ocean’s surface. Once the bubbles cleared, I looked around to see a new blue world I have never experienced before. I heard the sound of the ocean, mumbled by the sound of my deep breathing and the tanks of the more experienced scuba divers below me. It’s a very relaxing and peaceful sound, and if I had not been in such a new and unusual place I could have floated with my eyes closed for hours.
Have you ever visited a place so beautiful and serene that you couldn’t imagine a more stunning place? For me, it is the shimmering and flowing waters of the ocean. The way that the deep blue waters meet the gritty beige sand leaves me in such awe. The water is like a soft blanket, comforting and inviting. The unique wildlife and vegetation that exists on the beach is something I’ve never seen anywhere else. There is no place more beautiful and thrilling than the beach.
This lukewarm water was deceiving though, because it only seemed lukewarm due to the drop in temperature and misty rainfall. The waves were rushing toward me like a bull to a matador’s red flag. My mouth tasted as if someone dumped a whole shaker of salt on my tongue. The wave pushed my further and faster as it I could feel the wave breaking on my body and there I was back at the shallows again floating in with the white wash and was ready for another wave. As I stood back up and ran back out to the deep water I saw one of my surfing mates catch the most perfect barrel it was rad. It would have been a great snap shot. I caught another wave, this one was even bigger. The thrust of the wave was twisting my body and I was pulled towards the sea
