Introduction
National mission for sustainable agriculture in India is one of the eight missions under the NAPCC (National action plan for climate change) to address the issues related to ‘Sustainable agriculture’ in the context of risk associated with climate change by devising appropriate adaptation and mitigation strategies for ensuring food security, access to food resources and in turn enhancing the livelihood opportunities and contributing in the economic stability of the country.
This mission considers the risk associated with Indian agriculture sector. So, in absence of adaptation and mitigation measure impact on Indian agriculture would be severe.
SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE AND CLIMATE CHANGE
Sustainable agriculture is to balance the combination of environment and economic viability in order to enhance social and economic equity. It involves the processes which enable to meet the need of food and other related things while maximizing benefits through optimum use of natural resources and maintainance of ecosystem. Sustainable agricultural production is the key to ensure food and livelihood security. Climate change is posing serious challenge for sustainable agriculture growth. Mainly due to increasing green house effect gases this threat is compounded.
Climate Change refers to the statistical variations in the properties of the climate system such as changes in global temperatures, precipitation, etc., due to natural or human drivers over a long period of time.

7. Credit support: For this micro-finance system must be promoted. Schemes like Kishan credit card scheme to be up-scaled.
8. Markets: Market to be strengthened so that farmers have access to quality and timely inputs by farmers for mitigating risks. Community partnership must be promoted for food banks and other initiatives.
9. Access to information: ICT based solution must be used so that information symmetry must be present. A resource portal that gives information regarding all concerning issues must be create and managed.
10. Livelihood diversification: Off-farm activities must be promoted so that the risk due to climate change must be reduced. Crop diversification is one of the options. Combination of more livelihoods at a time is the main objective of that intervention.

By implementing new farming techniques provided with the new technological advances in machines we can see abundant harvest in even the poorest third world countries. For example, the Green Revolution has already showed admirable progress in the northern part of India ever since it took start in 1950. By 1997, northern India increased its grain production by 37 percent. This has proven that traditional farming methods are being rendered obsolete. And because by the year 2000, there will be half the land per person in developing countries as there was in 1970, we need to apply ultra-efficient methods to sustain the growing need. Not only does the Green Revolution enhances food output, it also preserves the environment.
Our first solution is New Delhi, India. India's wheat and rice production can be increased by over 60 percent, sugarcane production by 41 per cent and cotton production by 73 per cent. It’s impossible for poor rural women and their communities to cope with the effects of climate change when both are perpetually in crisis mode. Their capacity to adapt must be strengthened. Compared to men in poor countries, women face additional cultural, social and economic barriers that make them more vulnerable to climate change. Climate change is one of the major issues surfacing earth over the past century. The earth’s temperature has increased over the years leading to detrimental effects on the economic and life sources of people, especially that of agricultural production and livestock. The Merriam-Webster online dictionary (2014), defined climate change as a change in global climate patterns apparent from the mid late 20th century. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, IPCC, (2007) predicts that by 2100 the increase in global average surface temperature may be between 1.8° C and 4.0° C. With increases of 1.5° C to 2.5° C, approximately 20 to 30 percent of plant and animal species are expected to be at risk of extinction. Moreover, the IPCC (2007) purported that climate change has severe consequences for food security in developing countries. There are numerous factors that are solely responsible for this change which are both natural and man-made. Climate change has led to a decrease in quality and quantity of plant produce and livestock because of heat stress, drought and an increase in plant and animal diseases.
The second step is that broader awareness is required. According to Sarah Alexander, “different farmers trust different sources, such as vendors, crop consultants, and university extension services.” Farmers are going to need to be open minded to new things, in order to feed the human race. The last step is that farmers need the right incentives. Farmers want to know about the good that they are doing.
Today agriculture is the livelihood of most poor underdeveloped nations. This communal life blood provides a majority of the population with a source of employment, nourishment and income. It is considered to be an invaluable skill, that is taught down from generation to generation along with a sense of respect for the environment. However as a nation begins to undergo development, so do their food production systems. The country's newfound development causes significant restructuring of their agricultural production practices. This restructuring leads to poor environmental practices, and adverse agriculture methods. Increased economic development/production negatively affects a country's environmental and agricultural health.
