Introduction
National mission for sustainable agriculture in India is one of the eight missions under the NAPCC (National action plan for climate change) to address the issues related to ‘Sustainable agriculture’ in the context of risk associated with climate change by devising appropriate adaptation and mitigation strategies for ensuring food security, access to food resources and in turn enhancing the livelihood opportunities and contributing in the economic stability of the country.
This mission considers the risk associated with Indian agriculture sector. So, in absence of adaptation and mitigation measure impact on Indian agriculture would be severe.

SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE AND CLIMATE CHANGE
Sustainable agriculture is to balance the combination of environment and economic viability in order to enhance social and economic equity. It involves the processes which enable to meet the need of food and other related things while maximizing benefits through optimum use of natural resources and maintainance of ecosystem. Sustainable agricultural production is the key to ensure food and livelihood security. Climate change is posing serious challenge for sustainable agriculture growth. Mainly due to increasing green house effect gases this threat is compounded.

Climate Change refers to the statistical variations in the properties of the climate system such as changes in global temperatures, precipitation, etc., due to natural or human drivers over a long period of time.
The productivity in agriculture is affected by climate variables. Some of the climate variables are: temperature, precipitation and humidity. Change in these climate variables not only effects productivity but it has chain of effects. Less productivity have ad...

7. Credit support: For this micro-finance system must be promoted. Schemes like Kishan credit card scheme to be up-scaled.
8. Markets: Market to be strengthened so that farmers have access to quality and timely inputs by farmers for mitigating risks. Community partnership must be promoted for food banks and other initiatives.
9. Access to information: ICT based solution must be used so that information symmetry must be present. A resource portal that gives information regarding all concerning issues must be create and managed.
10. Livelihood diversification: Off-farm activities must be promoted so that the risk due to climate change must be reduced. Crop diversification is one of the options. Combination of more livelihoods at a time is the main objective of that intervention.
