In the story, “Sunday in the Park,” a happy and peaceful family had to leave the comfy park because they were taken out of their comfort zone. It all started when a boy named Joe threw sand at another boy named Larry. Which this led their parents into a confrontation. Then Larry and his parents would leave because of Joe and his dad. This story shows that people are different and have different situations going on. But they are going to have to figure out how to portray themselves correctly when they going into an argument. That was Bel Kaufman’s main purpose of writing this story. The beginning of the story started out nice and sunny. Readers are excepting a peaceful story. 5). Then the man who had been sitting on the bench spoke. He said “You go ahead Joe,” “Throw all the sand you want. This here is a public sandbox.” He says “public” because the other family does not own the sand box and it is his right to be there (para. 7). These are more examples of dialogue. The father felt that the other mother had no right how to tell his son how to play. He is not right but he is not wrong either. Plus, we do not know if he has had other families that ruined his son’s playtime, so he could be saying it like that to put some authority down. Soon after, Morton, Larry’s father says “You’re quite right,” “but just because this is a public place….” (para. 9). Morton is a small and pale guy but he is well educated. He has a background of having to use words to fight battles, so that is why he spoke peaceful and tried to be reasonable. He also tried to find common ground then there is a shift in tone, but then he was cut off. He is cut off by the guy lowering his funnies. Then he basically says his my son has a right to be here and if you do not like it leave (para.10). The father does not seem well educated, he does not have proper grammar, and he is a big guy. This are more dialogue examples. Morton continues to try to reason with the father, but the father just tells him to shut up (para. 12-13). The reason why the father keeps cutting off Morton is because he knows that he cannot beat Morton with his words. He tried to make Morton stop
