Setting Intentions for Recovery Setting intentions for recovery is a powerful and proactive approach that can significantly influence the journey towards overcoming addiction, including pornography addiction. Intentions act as a compass, guiding individuals through the challenges of recovery by focusing on personal values, goals, and the type of life they wish to lead post-addiction. Here’s an extensive discussion on the topic: Setting Intentions for Recovery. Defining Intentions. Intentions are different from goals; they are the inner commitments we make to align our actions with our values and beliefs. In the context of recovery, setting intentions involves identifying the core values that will guide the recovery process and making a conscious decision to live by them every day. By setting intentions, individuals in recovery can maintain focus on their desired outcomes and the steps needed to achieve them. Living intentionally Living intentionally means being mindful of choices and actions. It’s about making decisions that support recovery and personal growth. This could involve choosing to engage in healthy activities, avoiding triggers, or seeking support when needed. Intention and Relapse Prevention Setting intentions can be particularly effective in relapse prevention. By having clear intentions, individuals are better equipped to recognize high-risk situations and employ strategies to avoid or cope with them. Intentions serve as a reminder of the reasons for staying sober and the benefits of a life free from addiction. Daily Practice Incorporating intentions into daily life is crucial. This might involve starting each day by reaffirming one’s intentions, reflecting on them throughout the day, and evaluating progress at night. Consistency in this practice reinforces the commitment to recovery. Some examples of intentions for recovery might
...nd stages of addiction a little better. The first step is start accepting thing were cannot change. This is something I say to myself on a daily biases because it reminds me that I cannot be on control of everything all the time. I have to allow my higher power to guide me through life. The Serenity Prayer reminds us to have courage to change things we can. I am in control of my life and my happiness and I need to make changes in order to keep it that way. Having the wisdom to know what I can change and what I cannot is helpful because it allows me let things go. The Serenity Prayer has been adopted by AA groups but should be adopted by everyone because it is so helpful in my life. Reading this book “Being Sober” by Dr. Harry Haroutunian was an eye opener when it comes to helping families understanding addiction and how everyone needs to surrender to the same words
56% of divorce cases in the United States have reported the cause of divorce as one member of the couple having an unhealthy addiction for pornographic websites ("Pornography Statistics: Annual Report" 2014). The Merriam-Webster dictionary describes pornography as "movies, pictures, magazines, etc., that show or describe naked people or sex in a very open and direct way in order to cause sexual excitement." In a recent study of dating or married couples, 73% of males reported to using pornography at some level (ranging from low to high frequency use), while only 32% of females reported using pornography (Poulsen, Bubsy & Galovan, 2013 p. 73). Pornography has highly addictive qualities, which are often dismissed as "human nature," and is the leading cause of unhappiness leading to divorce in marriages. The ease of access to online pornography makes this worse because it is much more difficult to quit because of how easy it is to access it. If someone is addicted to drugs, they would need to find a supply if they were tempted to relapse. With an online pornography addiction, all someone needs is a computer to relapse into their pornography addiction. This form of addiction is not seen as an issue because of its dismissal as “human nature.” Online Pornography addiction negatively affects the addicted party's serious relationship or marriage, the addicted person's partner, and the addicted party themselves.

Overcoming an addiction to alcohol can be a long and bumpy road. Many people feel that it is impossible to overcome an alcohol addiction. Many people feel that is it easier to be an addict than to be a recovering addict. However, recovering from alcoholism is possible if one is ready to seek the help and support they need on their road to recovery. Recovery is taking the time to regain one’s normal mind, health and strength. Recovery is process. It takes time to stop the alcohol cravings and pressure to drink. For most, rehab and professional help is needed, while others can stop drinking on their own. Recovery never ends. After rehab, professional help or quitting on your own, many people still need help staying sober. A lot of time, recovering
This experience helped me to recognize the internal struggle that a substance abuser faces on a continuous basis. In addition, I know that an individual can have a difficult time changing their behavior even when they have a strong desire to change; the smallest thing can cause a person to relapse.
Relapse prevention can be defined as the set of designed coping skills or tools that can be utilized to reduce the chances that the user will resort back to unhealthy behavior or get worse through continued substance use. Knowledge or skills for relapse prevention include; identification of early signs of relapse, identifying and singling out high risk factors for a possible relapse, how to make wise daily choices that won’t lead the client back to drug abuse, and implementing early coping strategies to avoid relapse (Sofuoglu, 2010).

In the “Preface” and a chapter of Covering: The Hidden Assault on Our Civil Rights called “The New Civil Rights,” Kenji Yoshino, the Justice Earl Warren Professor of Constitutional Law at NYU, questions the traditionally accepted idea of assimilation by bringing about the new idea of ‘covering.’ Covering, as Yoshino, describes it, is ‘to tone down a disfavored identity to fit the mainstream’(540). He recounts how he covers in his everyday life because he is homosexual and how even with the shift in societal views towards his sexuality, he still feels the need to cover due to what he calls ‘covering demands.’ The fact that Yoshino still perceives it necessary to cover his sexuality reflects on how there is wrongly a difference between our civil
During the abstinence exercises for my Addiction Recovery and Social Work Practice course, I learned how to mentally abstain from my desires. During the weeks of abstaining, I decided to abstain from sodas, sex, cigarettes, and social media in order to understand the equivalence of individuals who have an addiction for drugs or alcohol. While abstaining from my desires, I found healthier ways, and activities to keep me focus on the assignment; for example, during my social media exercise, I decided to stay away from all social networks and spend time with family, and going on dates to work on my communication skills. Overall, the learning experience for the abstinence exercise has taught me that I have more mental power than I expected and
Both of these criteria are the core to modify many habit loops and they play a fundamental role in changing a habit. First, in order to quit drinking, the alcoholics must believe that it is possible for them to do so. A strong belief can empower anyone’s vision to get what they want easily. As written by Joyce Meyer, “Our thoughts fuel our actions”. How can change be made if their mind and words are filled with uncertainty and unbelief? That is why the alcoholic must believe that they can break their addiction. If they have a strong desire to quit drinking, and they believe they can achieve it, they will start taking a small step to make it happen. This is because their thought has derived the action towards achieving their goals. Next, support from people around them is also crucial for the alcoholics to quit drinking. A supportive surrounding can make the habit change stay longer or even make it permanent. When the alcoholics receive support from people they love, it will become easier for them to develop their resilience. They will try their best to not disappoint their loved ones. Support not only comes from family or friends but also from any support group that brings together alcoholics who want to stop their addiction. For example, recovery groups like Alcoholic Anonymous (AA) have accomplished their mission to help many alcoholics to stop drinking and
This paper will not discuss the moral concerns of pornography, because though they exist, this portrayal is meant to be factual and not opinionated, and one cannot discuss morals without opinions. That said, this paper will address pornography as an addiction, and therefore a problem, when taken to certain extremities. Where these boundaries lie, however, will not be discussed; this will be left up to the reader to define.
...me involved in things that they enjoy doing to make them feel important of needed. Picking up a hobby or adopting a pet can be a good way to help them feel important and keep their mind clear. A drug relapse can be a process from a recovery. A drug addict will find the relapse very frustrating and hurtful but in the end it will help them understand the mistake that they had made the first time.
