Roo Borson’s poem “Water Memory” starts with personification based on its topic. How can a substance has a property to remember things? This whole poem is trying to illustrate different types of people’s characteristics. The first sentence says water “moves among reeds, nudges the little boat” (1-2). The water personifies human who are obscure. They left their footprints but do not expect anyone can remember them. Without the illusions, people work on things steadily and surely. On the other hand, a proverb says “blood is thicker than water” which means family ties are closer than any other relationships.
