Happiness “Slower Than the Rest” by Cynthia Rylant is a realistic short story about a boy, Leo, who is slow in school and has a pet turtle that helps him realize that he can be “fast.” In the beginning, Leo thought that he could never be happy again because he was put in a different class for slower kids like him. Later in the story, Leo’s turtle helps Leo find happiness. In the end, Leo won an award plaque for the best presentation.He finally felt fast. It took some time, but Leo finally found something in school that he is “fast” at. Leo feels lonely in the beginning and also gives up on happiness.
