In that room, they see a book with their mother’s handwriting and learn about how their mother and father were the islands leaders once but were overthrown by Ishmael to avoid conflict. The Baudleriars go back to the other side and see everybody is there. After a long argument, Ishmael shoots count Olaf with the harpoon gun in his stomach shattering the Medusiod Mycelium and spreading out. Due to this the Baudelaire’s have to run back to find some horseradish which can dilute the poison. After rereading the book, the Baudelaire’s understand that they their parents put horseradish into the apples of the apple tree. So they take the apples for the others and eat one themselves. As they reach the other end, they see that the islanders are leaving and trying to get to a horse radish factory. Subsequently, Kit has a baby but dies due to the Medusiod mycelium. It has been three years since humanity was still alive. The year is 2020; very few people are left in America. A great series of large volcanic eruptions covered the region. No one could have prepared for them, and not one person predicted these tragedies. The author, Cormac McCarthy, shows the enticing travel of a father and his son. They must travel south for warmth, fight the starvation they are facing, and never let their guard down. They will never know what insane people might be lurking around the corner.
Lennie appeared out of the brush by the deep, green pool of the Salinas River. He had been running. He knelt down quietly by the pool’s edge and drank barely touching his lips to the water. He finished drinking and sat down embracing his knees on the bank, facing the trail entrance. He became very skittish and jumpy. Every little noise prodded for his attention. He knew he had made a huge mistake and George would be mad at him. He had remembered though, that George told him to hide here and wait for him.
Of Mice & Men Alternate Ending George aimed the gun and steadied it, and he brought the muzzle of the gun close to the back of Lennies head. The hand shook violently, but his face set and his hand steadied, Georges heart was pounding, Lennie was still looking across the river trying to picture his rabbits as he was told to do. George suddenly jerked his hand away as Lennie spoke. "Don stop now George, tell, tell about the rabbits and the fatta the lan" But George didn't answer, instead he raised the Luger and pulled the trigger the barrel turned creating a soft click which echoed in the small clearing. "George I dun a bad thing" "I know Lennie

The novel begins with the author, Kurt Vonnegut, relating the story of how he and a friend returned to Dresden, the site of the most devastating firebombing in all of World War Two. This introduction, which is really the first chapter of the book, is written in first person as Vonnegut injects himself into a mostly fictional story. There are a few instances whereupon the author mentions himself being part of the action, but other than the first and last chapters, the book is mostly written in third person and tells the story of the fictional character, Billy.
By using symbolism to develop the story, Golding shows his readers that the island is a place of evil and changes the boys from civil to savage. The end of Golding’s story shows the order and organization on the island dying along with Piggy and Simon, causing chaos and destruction to Ralph and the others. Even after many years, Golding’s book still holds the same message, the human nature is the same in everyone and chaos and destruction can be caused by this human nature even in the most peaceful
In Hanna Rosin’s article, ‘‘the end of men”, the author begins by stating that women are taking over today’s society, while the position of men have become a thought of the past. The author recognizes the negativity of having girls as firstborns. In the article, the author states, “Many wives who failed to produce male heirs were abused and treated as domestic servants; while some families prayed to spirits to kill off girl children” (Rosin). In this article, the author gives light to how the preference of having males has decimated from the minds of people and how it has been erased from society. And, goes as far as insinuating that women have overtaken the place of men in today’s society and are seen as equal. However, I disagree because I believe that men just want to keep women down and it is demonstrated through discrimination at the workplace, depriving education, and violence towards women.
A group of boys are stranded when their plane crashes onto an island and have nothing but each other to survive. Ralph, one of the main characters in the story, becomes acquainted with another boy who is later known as “Piggy”. After Piggy and Ralph become familiar with each other, Ralph decides to go for a swim in the nearby water and Piggy does the same. Piggy tells Ralph that people call him “Piggy” as a nickname but asks that Ralph does not tell anyone. The two boys quit swimming and come across a white conch shell; Ralph blows into the conch then multiple other boys appear from the forestry. A boy named Jack speaks up and says they should focus on being rescued but Ralph disagrees and thinks that they need a “chief”. Ralph is eventually elected as the chief. Jack, Ralph and Simon decide to go and explore the island when Piggy offers to go with them but Jack tells Piggy that he can not go with them because he is not suited for the job. After multiple protests, Ralph tells Piggy to stay and take names of all the boys on the island. As Jack, Ralph, and Simon explore the island, they come upon animal tracks. When the three boys start to return to the rest of the group, they come across a pig tangled in thorns and although they know they need the food from the pig to survive, the
Vince Lombardi once said, “Individual commitment to a group effort- that is what makes a team work, a company work, a society work, a civilization work.” This quote makes the audience of this book, ponder because all the boys came from a civilization, but are they showing it by working as a team? The boys split into two main groups, civilization and savagery. Just as expected, it does not work out for them.
While they were on the island they killed the momma sow, murdered Piggy , and stalked and tried to kill Ralph. The boys killed a momma sow who was feeding her babies & did not care because they thought it was a game. In the second paragraph, one of the boys who was now a savage threw a rock on Piggy while he was making a speech after Ralph & Jack had just fought. In the third paragraph, the boys tried to hunt & kill one more boy, Ralph, Ralph was the leader of the group until Jack took control & now Jack’s only goal is to kill Ralph. The boys lost their innocence & will never get it back because of what happened on the
Crooks and Curley’s wife both receive a paramount amount of isolation. Many people are unable to cope with this. Few people are able to cope with this type of loneliness in a healthy way. That is why there are so many problems as it is with Crooks and Curley’s wife. Many times a person does “weird” things in order to get attention, or to make the feelings of seclusion recede for a while. I plan to open your mind to some of the ideas of why our characters, Crooks and Curley’s wife, act the way they do.
Oppression has impacted society throughout history. Several great works of literature have highlighted the degrading effects of systematic oppression. In Ken Kesey’s One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, new mental hospital admission Randle McMurphy challenges the domineering rule of Nurse Ratched. In George Orwell’s 1984 focuses on Winston Smith--a man trapped in the totalitarian reign of Big Brother. One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest and 1984 both convey themes of manipulation and rebellion through the depiction of oppressive institutions.
However, the group of 5 boys mentioned before make life on the island easier because they force themselves to keep the fire going and they put the fire in the highest place on the mountain. The higher the fire and hope, the more chances of rescue. Then a boat comes but the fire was out. Most of the boys have given into the impurities of the island and they started hunting and killing and hurting each other. When Ralph and his squad notice this they try to redirect the other boys and the good group of five end up getting hurt. The kids don't realize the scary decision they have been put in and they dont realize how easy it is to hurt others. Then they realize and most of the boys become crazy and they kill a few people. In the ending all of the boys beat and tortured the twins, Samneric, and then they start coming for Ralph, half of the forest is on fire and that cause the boat passing by to see it and a few soldiers get off. They don't know that Ralph's hope was at his highest point because if the soldiers hadn't came the malistic boys would have killed Ralph just like they killed the other 3
