My book report book was called The Capture, by Kathryn Lasky. My book was about a barn owl named Soren. Soren is born into the forest of Tyto, this is a peaceful kingdom where the Barn Owls live. But evil hides in the owl world, an evil that threatens to destroy Tyto's tranquility and change Soren's life forever. Soren has two siblings, an older sibling named Kludd and a younger sibling named Eglantine. Kludd is a male and Eglantine is a female. Soren's parents went hunting because winter was arriving. When Soren was staring out from the nest, his big brother Kludd pushed him and he fell onto the ground. Soon after Soren is kidnapped and taken to a dark and terrifying canyon. This canyon is called St. Aggies, an orphanage for owl’s. Soren and
John Demos’s “the Unredeemed Captive” is a story about a man named John Williams, and his five children who were captured by Indians during a war in 1704. John Williams and his children are eventually released, but much to his disappointment, his youngest daughter Eunice remained with her captors, and married an Indian man. This story has a captivating storyline, and makes for a very compelling narrative. In this paper I will attempt to make a critical analysis of John Demos’s work. The major areas I am looking at are the evolution or the piece, from beginning to end, what the major sections of the book are and how they flow together, and how this work is and isn’t a conventional narrative.
I read the book Lonesome Howl, which is a drama book and a love story. The book was about two main character whose names are Jake and Lucy. They lived with their family in two different farms, but in the same community besides a mountain covered in a big wicked forest where many rumors took place. The farmers around the place lost many sheep’s since a feral beast. It was a quite small community and a lot of tales was told about it to make it even more interesting. Lucy was 16 years old and lived with her strict father and a coward of mom who didn’t dare to stand up for her daughter when she were being mistreated and slapped around by her father. Lucy was a retired and quite teenager because of that. She had a younger brother whose name was Peter. Peter was being bullied in school and couldn’t read since the education of Peter was different compare too Lucy’s. She helped him in school and stood up for the mean bullies, although all she got in return was him talking bullshit about her with their cruel dad which resulted with her getting thrash.
The love that most humans hold in their hearts is bountiful and can only be explained as mysterious. Well, in Peg Kehret's novel Abduction, love is explored and tested to the greatest extent. Bonnie, a young, adolescent girl is tested when her brother Matt Shotler is kidnapped. Bonnie will stop at nothing to get her brother back from his evil captor, Denny Thurmann. There are many things we can learn from this novel; however, only one really stands out. One lesson the story suggests, is to never lose faith in the ones you love and know that they will come through for you.

The name of my book is Killing Mr. Griffin by Lois Duncan. This is a mystery thriller about five teens who plan to kidnap their English teacher to teach him a lesson. Their teacher is very hard on them and does not allow any room for slacking. But instead of just kidnapping him for a while, they decide to abandon him for a while by a deserted lake in the middle of nowhere. Two of the teens come back to find that he is dead. Now they must decide what to do with the body and how to explain his death.
Before I get into all the specifics I’m going to give you a summary of the book I picked
I am writing about the book The Magician’s Nephew. It is by C.S. Lewis and it is part of the Chronicles of Narnia series. This book is about two children who go on an unexpected adventure. At the beginning of this book, a young boy, Digory, learns that he has a new neighbor next door. The new next door neighbor is a family with a daughter named Polly. One day, they are both playing in their own backyards. Digory wants to meet the new neighbor so he says hello. She says hello. They start talking but their talk soon becomes an argument. Polly finally apologized when he told her about his sick mother and having to stay with his aunt and his mad uncle. After they made up, they became good friends and played together almost all the time. One time
After reading The Book of the Unknown Americans, I realized how difficult immigrating to the United States can be. I am an immigrant also, so just reading the story makes me relate to many problems immigrants experience relocating to a different country. Immigrants often face many issues and difficulties, but for some it is all worth it, but for others there comes a point in time where they have to go back to their hometown. Alma and Arturo Rivera came to the United States to better their life, but also so that Maribel could attend a special education school. While Arturo had a job things had gone well for the family, but once Arturo lost the job and passed away the two of them had to go back because they felt that that was the best option for them. Reading this book made me realize how strong an individual has to be to leave their own country and relocate somewhere else not knowing if this will better your life or cause one to suffer.

In an article by New York State writers and a senior lecture in Media studies at Penn state wrote, Don Siegel’s Invasion of the Body Snatches has been called “An unprepossessing little horror film, made with a minuscule budget for a three-week shooting schedule -- and yet it produced one of the most trenchant social commentaries of the 1950 's(Filmnotes).
This book is about a weasel named Bagley Brown Jr. He is a weasel and I noticed that the weasels color is the same as the last name. He is brown and he has a patch on his eye. He lives in the Wainscott Woods. His father is a legend because he made the Double B. The Double B is a quarter mile long tunnel that leads to a chicken farm. It feeds all the weasels in the Wainscott woods. Everybody treats him special and he hates it. All the weasels love to dance and at the spring cotillion a new girl came to the woods. Her name is Wendy Blackish and she is pretty high class. The whitebelly brothers were there too. The oldest, Zeke likes Wendy.
Frederick, a children’s book written by Leo Lionni, is considered a classic in this genre. It received the Caldecott Honor, was an ALA Notable Children’s Book, and was a New York Times Best Illustrated Children’s Book of the Year. The book is a fable of a mouse, Frederick, who is the dreamer in a group of tiny field mice. Frederick, the main character, demonstrates the importance of dreams and imagination by giving his fellow field mice a feeling of comfort through his memories of warmth, color, and words during a drab cold winter. Through Frederick’s supply of memories, the mice were able to make it through a hard time. Through the narrative style and structure, Lionni finds a way for children and adults alike to find a message on their own and learn from someone as small as a tiny field mouse.
For my book I chose to read The Body by Stephen King. This novel is about four young boys taking a journey to find a body somewhere in the woods that is at the county line. This story is about more than just four boys going on an adventure its about them becoming closer to each other and learning real life lessons along the way. The four boys are all going into their first year of middle school so this is a time in their life when they learn things that will help them in life.
The Wild Iris by Louise Gluck is an enjoyable read and the collection functions to state the author’s beliefs in religion and the incorporation of nature. The overall collection gives you the sense of a philosophical view of life and death by relating it to the nature implications of her poems. Louise Gluck create emotional responses with her elements of her theme, her stance on religion and life, meaning, senses, and etc.
In Willa Cather’s A Lost Lady, two types of men are presented to the reader – the old fashioned man who belongs to the Old West, and the new man who is a product of the Industrial Revolution. Niel Herbert and Ivy Peters exemplify these two types of men; by their outlook upon life and by their actions, they are as fundamentally opposed to one another as the Old West was to the Industrial Revolution.
