The Ministry Staff Member by Douglas Fagerstrom, is an excellent book that is designed to help create a clear picture on the role and responsibilities of ministry leaders and volunteers (paid and not paid). The book is practical and relevant to every single person wanting to be involved in a church. I am currently a children’s pastor, and I found valuable information under every part and page of the book that I wish I had known about a year ago. Not only does this book contain content that is valuable and relevant, but it also highlights the importance of financial and personal integrity in ministry relationships.
Moreland is trying to urge Christians, and the church, to spread the knowledge of God and his practices to the non-believers. Moreland (2007) explains that there are three types of knowledge: (a) knowledge of acquaintance; (b) propositional knowledge; and (c) know-how (p.120). He explained that knowledge of acquaintance is sometimes described as "being directly aware of something" (Moreland, 2007, p.120). He then stated that the propositional knowledge is knowing something is "true on the basis of adequate grounds" (Moreland, 2007, p.120). Moreland (2007) described the last type of knowledge is the know-how, which "is the ability to do certain things" (p.120). In this chapter of the book, Moreland defines what knowledge is in our world. The definition that is most significant is the first, which claims that "knowledge does not require certainty" (Moreland, 2007, p.121). He basically is saying that when people believe that certainty is a requirement of knowledge, then they may stop seeking knowledge (Moreland, 2007, p.121). I believe this is significant because discourse between two people involving their opinion is what leads to growth or an increase in knowledge.

Chapter topics include searching for leaders, insights on leadership from Paul and Peter, prayer, time, reading, improving leaders, responsibilities, tests, delegation, Nehemiah, and etc. are very important and good to not only just read but try to practice in daily leadership life.

Pastors need to make every effort to strive for deeper understanding of the bible. If a pastor doesn’t want to lead his congregation in the truest way possible, but instead do as he sees fit, he should not be a pastor. It is a pastor’s job to recreate the event through the text in order to bring the congregation deeper into the understanding of the divine word. When a pastor only stays at surface level or waters down the event through self-reflection, then the divinely inspired meaning in the text is lost.
