Vacations Can be hard to plan, especially during the holidays. Greg’s family plans a family vacation in a place where Greg’s parents had their honeymoon, that place is called, Isla de Corales. As usual with the Heffley’s, the trip goes horrible. The title of this book is, Diary of a wimpy kid: The Getaway. The author of the book is, Jeff Kinney. A brief summary is how Greg’s family plans a family vacation that doesn't turn out as well as they expected. First, Greg starts off by explaining how this trip came to mind. In the book, Greg says, “The commercial was for this place called, Isla de Corales, which is where mom and dad went for their honeymoon…” (Kinney 3). In the middle of the book, Greg’s family starts to get the trip ready and is off …show more content…
The quote, “Our stomachs aren't used to the microbes in the water down here…” (Kinney 92) is reflecting on how Greg’s dad gets sick during the trip. Fortunately, Greg’s dad feels better after a few days. Another example is when Greg’s is against his biggest fear, spiders. “I figured with my luck, the giant spider on the bathroom floor was venomous. I've read that some spiders bite their prey, then wrap them up so they can eat them alive, which does not sound like a whole lot of fun.” (Kinney 108). This problem is when Greg fights his adversary. Again, “When we got moving again we went through the area where they had a water trampoline and the kids started using our banana boat as a target... the one stupid kid landed smack in the middle of our boat and punctured it.” (Kinney 134-135). The family learns that not only they can have a good vacation unless they take it slow. All of these problems basically summarize the …show more content…
But one in particular character is used in the novel and was used perfectly. Rodricks, (Greg’s older brother), personality changes so easily in novel. Rodricks emotions before the trip was how was excited and ready for the trip, turns out he hated the trip and never wanted any part of it ever again. Rodrick gets excited for trip, he dresses up in his bathing suit to the airport. “It was only about twenty degrees outside, but Rodrick was already dressed for vacation” (Kinney 7). This shows that Rodrick is ready for the trip and anxious for the trip. Rodrick doesn't find interest on the trip and hangs out with a girl that he met during the trip. “On the way to the beach, mom told Rodrick this was a family vacation, and it wasn’t the time or place for “teenage romance.” (Kinney 143). This shows that Rodrick doesn't care about the trip at all, and only cares about this random girl and himself. I recommend this particular book to people who have families that are crazy. They can relate too this book with Greg and his family. I also recommend this book to people who enjoy laughs. You can get a good laugh once in awhile during the book. I rate this a book an 6/10, my expectations were high for this book, but when I first read, my expectations went high to low. This book wasn't as good as before, personally i think it's just another ordinary diary of a wimpy
This book was rather easy to read but could be rather difficult to understand as their was a lot happening with Calliope blacking out then coming back to reality and to have written a whole paragraph if words without knowing, this book would be good for a year 12 book club because even if they can't relate the characters in the book directly they still in a way can connect with them in a way whether it be they have a mental disorder or a compulsion to do something or if the are in a
Evaluation: I thought the book was very exciting and suspenseful like her other books. The book had very good detail and an interesting plot. I liked the twist when Juan and the girl’s father came upon Glenn walking down the road. I also liked how the author described the action in great detail. It made me feel like I was right there seeing it all happen firsthand. I don’t think that the author could’ve made this book any better than she did already.
Fans of the novel like the way you get to see inside Grace and Marty 's personalities, and the way that these two kids are just like any other, if not a little more unusual. You will find yourself glued to the pages until you have finished reading the novel. The adventures will make it so that you only breath about every once in a while and you will like the characters you are reading about, even if you are an adult. The novel is vivid in description and it is almost as though you are able to make a movie of things in your head. Some felt that they were along for the ride with the heroes, Grace and Marty, in this one and they enjoyed every moment of
I found the book to be easy, exciting reading because the story line was very realistic and easily relatable. This book flowed for me to a point when, at times, it was difficult to put down. Several scenes pleasantly caught me off guard and some were extremely hilarious, namely, the visit to Martha Oldcrow. I found myself really fond of the char...
In my eyes I loved the book I rate it a 9/10, its had a good twist and turn to it. I loved this
My overall opinion of this book is good I really liked it and recommend it to anyone. It is a good book to read and it keep you interested throughout the whole book.
The story The Outsiders By S.E Hinton is said to be “timeless” because kids can relate to the characters and themes of the story. In my opinion the story The Outsiders is not timeless because kids these days can’t relate to the characters in the story The Outsiders. Kids today aren’t riding in rodeos, roll drunks, jump smaller kids, walk to a stranger's house, or get in a stranger’s car, also they get arrested at the age of 10. Saying the statement “The Outsiders is a “timeless” book “ is an invalid statement. So, Kids today often don’t relate to The Outsiders anymore in many ways.
My recommendation for this book would be that this book is just a fun read, nothing to serious. But yet it's a book were its easy to relate to were a lot of the situations that happen in the book happen in young teenage life as well. Like for example the desperation to fit in. kids will do most likely anything to be part of "the cool group" hopefully not take some sort of pill that will talk to you in your head. But other things like being pressured into talking drugs. Sneaking out of the house to go to some party and not coming back until the next day at dawn without getting caught. These days we do so much and our parents know so little.
Children may start out simple-minded but shift into maturing young adults. Jem is proof of this in Harper Lee’s, To Kill a Mockingbird since he has many life experiences with the people who influence him most. Through this novel, Jem matures from an ignorant boy to a young and more to respectful young man due to learning loyalty and valor.
The good points about the book were that it always left you hanging. At the end of every page it left you wondering about what will happen on the next page. It had a very good story if you like the kind of story it is.
There are four men stranded on a boat who are introduced in the beginning of the story. The cook, the oiler, the correspondent, and the captain are all on a boat that "a man ought to have a bath tub larger than" (360). As the men fight the crest of each wave they encounter, it is obvious that this is a desperate situation. Showing their powerlessness the narrator describes a group of birds as sitting ."..comfortably in groups, and they were envied by some in the dinghy, for the wrath of the sea was no more to them than it was to a covey of prairie chickens a thousand miles inland" (363). Even though the men are in grave danger, the sun rises and sets and a shark even swims by but seems to have no need for the men in the boat. The men even believe that the waves are harsh on them and want to capsize the boat. The narrator explains that "[the waves were] nervously anxious to do something effective in the way of swamping boats" (361). Even though it is obvious that the ocean always has waves, it is hard fo...
Imagine waking up on a normal day, in your normal house, in your normal room. Imagine if you knew that that day, you would be taken away from your normal life, and forced to a life of death, sickness, and violence. Imagine seeing your parents taken away from you. Imagine watching your family walk into their certain death. Imagine being a survivor. Just think of the nightmares that linger in your mind. You are stuck with emotional pain gnawing at your sanity. These scenerios are just some of the horrific things that went on between 1933-1945, the time of the Holocaust. This tragic and terrifying event has been written about many times. However, this is about one particularly fascinating story called The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne.
I would recommend this book to anyone, it has sections that almost everyone can relate to. When people see the issue they are facing in print it helps them come to terms that they are not unique or alone with life being difficult. If they read that through therapy the person they relate to is now living healthy and happy lives it gives them hope that their problems can be faced and they can live normal lives.
series for two reasons. The first reason is because it ties up all the questions I had from the other books. This book really was a good ending, for me at least. And the second reason is because it’s just a great book. It has mystery, suspense, humor, action and many more things that keep you from putting the book down. On a scale of one to ten I would rate this ten and it is also my number one favorite book (so far).
The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain has many amazing elements within its story but, these elements were not the first time it was used. Many other stories has used these elements before. Old stories like Robin Hood, Prometheus, and Cinderella are only some of the stories in which they used the elements before. Modern fiction is extremely similar to older works such as myths, traditional stories, and religious works based as characterization, theme, and plot.
