For my summer reading assignment I chose to read the book “Cake Pop Crush” by Suzanne Nelson. I selected this book, because when I read the analogy of the book it really got my attention. It sounded like a competitive, romance, and eye catching type of book mixed in one. While reading the book I constantly was wanting to know what was going to happen next. Cake Pop Crush was about a girl named Alicia who is trying to save her family’s bakery, while dealing with boy drama, and the new competition across the street “Perk It Up” Throughout the book the whole conflict between Alicia, and this new boy Dane was really interesting. One minute you think hey are friends the next minute he is stealing her ideas of cake pops for his dad's store.When
Imagine this, it is the 1800’s and you’re shopping for sugar. You see the sweet, pure white sugar and look down. Wham! The price makes your stomach drop. You need a cup of sugar, and the price is five dollars per teaspoon. That’s two-hundred and forty dollars, and you only have two dollars with you! In the articles, How Candy Conquered America by Lauren Tarshis and This Cupcake is Trying to Hurt You by Kristin Lewis and Lauren Tarshis it talks about how the consumption of sugar changes over time from the 1800’s to today. Two ways sugar consumption in the United States differed in the 1800’s than today is how much sugar we eat and how it affects our bodies.
The Truman book I chose to read for the first quarter is All Fall Down by Ally Carter. I enjoyed reading this book because the plot was very interesting and I liked seeing how the events would turn out. All Fall Down is about a girl named Grace Blakely who has grown up in Adria, a European nation. She finds out her mom has died. Grace remembers an old man with a scar who was at the sight of where her mom died when it happened. Grace thinks he is the killer. She calls the man the Scarred man. Grace meets some people on the way including Megan and Noah who help her with her search to find the person who killed her mom.
For my independent choice reading, I chose the book Rebel Belle. The main character, Harper, is the school’s it girl. She has the boyfriend everybody wants and a group of friends who will do anything for her. This all changes and suddenly she’s a Paladin, protecter of the Oracle. At first she can’t figure out who this is, or even what an Oracle or Paladin is, but once she does, things start to get complicated. She is sucked into this whole other world that involves car chases, murders, and trying to save her own life.
I enjoyed the novel The Scarlet Pimpernel. It was filled with adventure and I liked how both conflicts were resolved at the end. I chose this book because Mrs. Donius recommended it to me. She said she loved it and it was one of her favorites. I would recommend this book to a wide range of readers. Anyone from the age of thirteen and older could enjoy this novel.
One story that I significantly enjoyed reading was about Kent, an individual that suffers/has/is labeled as ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder). ADHD is more prevalent than ever in the schools and is a hot topic with educators and parents. I can even relate to it on a personal level because one of the boys I nanny for is now in the first grade, and
A book that provides entertainment as well as life lessons is hard to come by in this day in age. The kind of books that should be on the summer reading list must have a large population appeal and deep character development that makes you feel like you are in the story. Veronica Roth’s book Divergent, which provides you with all the factors that make up good literature, should stay on the summer reading list. This book offers all these and more throughout its twists and turns. Divergent should stay on the summer reading list because of the life lessons taught in the story, the large population appeal and deep character development.
In conclusion, I would highly recommend this book to early teens who are fans of drama and comedy because they could probably relate to most of the issues discussed to a certain extent. Girls my age, especially, would enjoy this book as they could relate to the issues discussed and they have probably already experienced similar
The main problems that are affecting the company were the high level of labour turnover, below target production rates, high levels of scrap, the employees had little input in the decision making, therefore resulting in low motivation and job satisfaction, and didn't have enough feedback on there performance. Added to this was the conflict between the supervisors and employees in the production and packing areas, and the grading and payment levels wasn't satisfactory to the employees.
My recommendation for this book would be that this book is just a fun read, nothing to serious. But yet it's a book were its easy to relate to were a lot of the situations that happen in the book happen in young teenage life as well. Like for example the desperation to fit in. kids will do most likely anything to be part of "the cool group" hopefully not take some sort of pill that will talk to you in your head. But other things like being pressured into talking drugs. Sneaking out of the house to go to some party and not coming back until the next day at dawn without getting caught. These days we do so much and our parents know so little.
The book I chose for my book report is Anne of Green Gables. It is written by L. M Montgomery. I really liked this book. This book is a fiction book. It was funny in some parts. Anne is a really funny character and I liked reading about what she would do next.
For my Second Quarter book report I chose a series by Jen Calonita. Belles is a trilogy about a southern girl named Isabelle Scott. Her mother died when she was only six years old and because no other family members were known about at the time she lived with her grandmother in Harborside. Ten summers later, her grandmother’s health began to fail. To get away from the stress of her home life Izzie would go to the beach with her friend Kylie Brooks where she meets a cute surfer named Brayden Townsend.
For my book I chose to read The Body by Stephen King. This novel is about four young boys taking a journey to find a body somewhere in the woods that is at the county line. This story is about more than just four boys going on an adventure its about them becoming closer to each other and learning real life lessons along the way. The four boys are all going into their first year of middle school so this is a time in their life when they learn things that will help them in life.
