Tera Hunter, Bound in Wedlock: Slave and Free Black Marriage in the 19th Century


Tera Hunter is a Professor of History and African American Studies at Princeton University. She has written many books and been recognized for them also. Much of her work is about African Americans, woman, and labor.

Bound in Wedlock is one of the first books written about African American marriage in the nineteenth century. In her book she uses actual legal documents, plantation records, and pension files as her sources in this book.
