Prologue In the devastating zombie outbreak that had demolished our small town, a group banded together to shape a network of survivors. I (Chris) had taken on a management role and the I use my army training to organize our defenses and scavenge for supplies. Samantha, a useful nurse, has emerged as a valuable member of our organization, tending to the injured and maintaining everybody satisfied. Her unwavering dedication and clinical knowledge have been crucial in keeping us alive and healthy. Lily, a young lady with a coronary heart of gold, has quickly become one of the most loved members of our network. Her bravery, kindness, and willingness to place herself dangerously to help others earned her the honor of everybody around her. Together, …show more content…
The zombie outbreak had already taken its toll, but Lily's disappearance was devastating to everyone. I had taken on a management position in our community’s defense, but I couldn’t shake the sensation that I had failed her. “We need to find her,” I told Samantha, a nurse tending to the injured survivors. “Lily would by no means wander off, not with how risky there are miles out there.” Samantha nodded, her forehead crinkled with worry. “I recognize her,” she said. She’s one of the bravest humans I know; however, she’s not reckless. Where do you think she would’ve gone, too?” Communication was interrupted by the arrival of Mr. Coggans, an elderly neighbor who lived down the street. “I’m afraid I have some terrible news,” he said, drying his palms. I was the last person to see Lily earlier, and then she disappeared.” I glanced at Samantha, and our suspicions were immediately provoked. “What came about, Mr. Coggans?” I asked. “Well, you notice, Lily came to me asking for assistance finding some medicine,” the vintage guy said. “She said that we were low on resources for the injured.” Mr. Coggans stated. Against my better judgment, I let her go out alone.” Mr. Coggins stated while Samantha shook her head angrily. That doesn’t sound like it at all. She would in no way risk her life like that, not while we’ve been operating together as a team to scavenge for supplies.” I said. I’m simply telling you what I realized,” Mr. Coggans stated defensively. “Maybe she’s just quicker on her own,” Mr. Coggan
“That night I lay in bed and thought about dying and going to be with my mother in paradise. I would meet her saying, “Mother, forgive. Please forgive,” and she would kiss my skin till it grew chapped and tell me I was not to blame.”
Building on the successful work of health care providers will help with the campaign of saving 100,000 lives. Through his speech, Dr. Berwick introduce six changes that every hospital needs to implement in order to save lives that will bring family together. The six changes Dr. Berwick wish every health care organization needs work on that will help save these lives are to deploy rapid response team, deliver reliable care for acute myocardial infarctions, prevention of ventilator associated pneumonia bundles, prevention of central venous line bundles, prevention of surgical site infection prophylaxis medication and prevention of adverse drug events with reconciliation. Even though the lives save may not know who they are, it will bring community and family together. According to Dr. Berwick “The names of the patients whose lives we save can never be known. Our contribution will be what did not happen to them. And, though they are unknown, we will know that mothers and fathers are at graduations and weddings they would have missed, and that grandchildren will know grandparents they might never have known, and holidays will be taken, and work completed, and books read, and symphonies heard, and gardens tended that, without our work, would never have
At the start of the novel, a general understanding of Lily’s life is explained, giving knowledge about T.Ray, Rosaleen, and her mother, Deborah. Lily describes the little she is able to remember about her mother's death as she was only four years old at the time. A nasty fight had broken out between T.Ray and Deborah, leaving a frightened Lily to be tossed around between the two. A gun had appeared on scene and in an attempt to save her mother, Lily got involved. In a remembrance of this chilling day, Lily reflects, “What is left lies in clear yet disjointed pieces in my head. The gun shining like a toy in her hand, how she snatched it away and waved it around. The gun on the floor. Bending to pick it up. The noise that exploded around us. This is what I know about myself. She was all I wanted. And I took her away” (Kidd 7-8). Through reflection, a very heartbroken Lily is able to convey what happened on that dreadful day when her mother died in her own thoughts and beliefs. As a result of this event, Lily begins to carry an immense amount of grief and guilt around as well as losing herself into these bad memories and feelings. Her self love is depleted and her mother is gone, leaving her with T.Ray and her new mother figure,
The devastating tragedy of losing a person's mother at an early age can drastically affect that person's life. It can impact the way someone thinks, corresponds with others, and the way someone handles themselves emotionally. In the novel The Secret Life of Bees Lily Owens loses her mother at the early age of four. During Lily's journey she finds comfort and support in the women that she meets. Throughout the novel Lily goes through many changes because of the impact of the motherly figures of the Black Mary, Rosaleen, and the Calendar Sisters.
In the book, The Secret Life of Bees, my impression of Lily changes throughout the book because as she is learning and finding new information about her family, more specifically her mom and her reactions to the information she receives. For the rest of the book, I believe Lily gave me 3 different impressions. The 3 are that she feels insecure about herself, lonely, and a bit self-centered but also can be forgiving and loving.Throughout the story, many impressions changes as the situation changes.
Although I respect and trust nurses and doctors, I always carefully observe what is being done with myself or my family members. After watching Josie’s story and being in the process of becoming a medical assistant, I feel this story has given me an initiative to ensure patients and their families are kept safe. The generation we live in is technological, there are many resources for patients and families to utilize to educate themselves when it comes to medical conditions. Some people like to self-diagnose and it makes it harder for doctors and healthcare workers to work with those patients. This is when communication and active listening becomes especially important to work through what is fact and what is misplaced
She believes that at the age of three years old, she dropped the pistol that was on the floor in the bedroom, capable of shooting her mother. That was the whole point of traveling to Timburon as she did, to find the truth, but she didn’t. She did however, meet three beautiful ladies who had once known her mother from the way she styled her hair, to the color of socks she puts on her feet. Lily’s mother had come back to the Pink house to live with August, June, and May a few months before she was killed. She left her daughter and husband. The time she came back to get her stuff, and her daughter, was the time she was deployed into heaven, gone forever. Lily was a rock when she heard the news that her mother had left her with a man who abused her☺. From the time she left the peach farm at home, to the time T-Ray came knocking on the door of the pink house, Lily had gone back and forth with how much she loved her mother and how much her mother loved her. One day she would find out that her mother left her with T-Ray, and the next day she would find a picture of the two when she was an infant, noses touching. Did her mother love her? Yes! Did she love her mother? Yes! When her mother left her, she was in a state of depression. She needed to get away from the world. Deborah did, however, come back for her daughter. Sadly, Lily didn’t completely understand her rasoning. It took a long time to accept the fact that her mother left her and even longer to forgive her and realize that she really did love her
Jackie advocates for the patient’s daughter to be at her bedside, because the daughter is the main caregiver, even though the ICU has an age restriction of having to be at least 14 (Austin, 2009). Further, Jackie takes it upon herself to ensure that the patient has enough required medications to last a few weeks. She achieved this by taking the medications from the pharmacy and smuggling them out of the hospital by giving them to the daughter. The patient’s daughter was extremely grateful and appreciated all of Jackie’s actions (Austin, 2009). From the above examples, nurse Jackie displayed a servant leadership style.
Mona Counts is a Nurse Practitioner at her own primary care facility. Her clinic provides health care to over five thousand patients who live in the heart of Appalachia. Bob Wilkinson is a Pediatric Oncology Nurse. Bob takes care of very sick children and their families. Ardis Bush started as a Staff Nurse over 25 years ago and worked her way up to being Nurse Manager. These nurses establish a rapport with their patients and their patients’ families by talking to them like normal human beings, and not just as patients. These nurses relate and listen to their patients, which makes them feel comfortable. Both Mona and Ardis even make house visits to check up on patients and to see how they are doing.
A nurse’s role in our society today is exceptionally significant. Nurses are somewhat idolized and looked to as our everyday “superman”. “The mission of nursing in society is to help individuals, families, and groups to determine and achieve physical, mental, and social potential, and to do so within the challenging context of the environment in which they live and work” (“The Role of a Nurse/Midwife”). Many Americans turn to nurses for delivery of primary health care services and health care education (Whelan). In our country, there is constantly someone in need of health care. There will always be a baby being born or a person dying, someone becoming ill or growing old. Some people due to their physical and/or mental state of health are completely dependent on a nurse and wouldn’t be able to get through the simple obstacles of every day, or achieve the necessary requirements of a simple day without their aid. Not only do nurses help, and assist you when you’re sick, but also act to promote good health to others. They end...
One day, Nancy saw her parents crying and she had never seen them cry before. They dropped Linh and her off at one of their friend’s houses. Lily Briscoe is working on a painting throughout the book To The Lighthouse. She does not want anyone to see her painting and considers throwing it to the grass when someone walks by (Woolf 17-18). Other characters in the book seem to have different opinions about her painting. Mrs. Ramsay, William Bankes, and Charles Tansley all have differing views about Lily’s painting. While showing her painting to William Bankes, Lily realizes that she doesn’t like it. During Mrs. Ramsay’s dinner party, Lily realizes what she needs to do to fix her painting but doesn’t until the end of the story. The painting itself grows and changes throughout the book, just as Lily grows and changes as a person as she lives her life (Woolf 102).
Finally, we talked about how scary and dangerous it is for a young girl to walk through the woods to go to her grandmother’s house. Also, she has the thought of her mom telling her to be careful in the woods because it could be dangerous.
First of all, to empower her staff, Nancy needs to develop an effective relationship with them, as well as, between all members of the healthcare team; this collaboration is essential to provide optimal patient care and to eliminate feelings of powerlessness.
Have you ever been scared for the safety of a complete stranger? Have you changed somebody’s outlook on life just by being a Good Samaritan? Well, I have. It was a late Thursday night and I was in a bad part of town informally known as “The Knob.” I had been at a friend's house when we decided to leave to find somewhere to eat. On the way, my friend got a call from his mom telling him he had to be home. His house wasn’t really out of the way. As I pulled down Belle Avenue, towards his house, another friend of mine shouts out “Hey, pull over that guy just knocked that girl out” I instantly questioned this absurd accusation. “What? You’re joking.” As I turned around I noticed that he certainly wasn’t as I saw a middle-aged lady facedown on the pavement. Without hesitation I parked the car and we all ran over to see what was going on. You could see in the distance a man in an orange hooded jacket fleeing the scene. My friend attempted to wake this lady up. She was out cold. At this point each one of us had no idea what we should do. Obviously, the first thing we should have done was call the police, but let me remind you this was a bad part of town and didn’t know if we would be the next. Tommy, my friend, the nearest house and knocked on the door. A trashy looking man answered the door. After being informed that there was an unconscious lady in front of his house he scurried to her aid. The man then realized it was a good friend of his. Jane was her name. You could sense his anger and concern for this lady. He began to frantically ask questions. Who, what, when, where, why, how and every other sort of interrogation question was thrown our way. We described her assailant and which way he went. Evidently it was her boyfriend. At this ...
