Going away to camp, for most people, is a good experience. There people would interact with friends and play games. Going away to camp is all around a fun past time. Most people saw camp was a vacation, to get away from work or school or just reality all together. There are different types of camp. Rocking out with Mitchie ( Demi Lovato ) and Joe (Joe Jonas ) at Camp Rock in the movie Camp Rock to working on health and fitness with Rachel and Taylor in the movie Fat Camp and then there is Sugar Camp. Sugar Camp was the complete opposite of the first thing that comes to mind, when the word “Camp” is heard or thought of. From a small cottage to a camp of sixty cabins, Sugar Camp has managed to get through a training program, go through a world war, and become part of Dayton’s history. It all started with a man by the name of John Patterson. John Patterson, founder of NCR (National Cash Register), started a teaching camp held in the summers for the salesmen of NCR. This camp trained the salesmen on their sales pitches. The camp was located in a little cottage on Patterson Farm on Brown Street, but in 1903, Patterson moved the camp due to the suffering of the men because of the heat in the cottage. It was relocated to Schantz Avenue. There, Patterson set up wooden floored tents, which was where his school was now going to be held. It was then when the camp was named Sugar Camp. In 1934 Colonel Edward A. Deeds replaced the tents with 60 four persons cabins. Each cabin were fourteen by thirty five foot wood frame building. At this point Sugar Camp was home to 518 men, during the months of June, July and August. The men part of Sugar Camp studied hard and took classes to better NCR. “Despite the long hours of serious application ... ... middle of paper ... ...n, Sugar Camp went from NCR’s salesmen training camp to the homes of Women Appointed for the Voluntary Emergency during World War II, to NCR’s training camp for salesmen again. After all those years Sugar Camp is now part of Dayton’s history. It is remembered and thought of thanks to Carillon Historical Park. Works Cited Dalton, Curt Keeping The Secret: The Waves and NCR. The history of FT. McClellan, AL began in July of 1917-1999. It was located near Anniston, AL, which was the first and only military post in that vicinity. On July 1, 1929 Camp McClellan was formally changed to Fort McClellan, which became a permanent duty assignment for active Army. Fort McClellan was named after Major General George B. McClellan, who was the General in Chief of the Army from 1861-1862. It was the first southern military installation named in honor of a northerner general. McClellan was used as a mobilization camp where soldiers of WWII trained. During WWII, McClellan was considered one of the largest military installations, where roughly half a million troops were trained. From the time that the war ended, up until the day that the based closed, McClellan had an average of 10,000 military personnel on the installation (Transition Force, 2014).
It gives facts and real life story living on this camp. This is actually someone real life story. When Jeanne dad left the family, the family could not bear. Living on the camps it was dusty, cold and windy. Jeanne states at the end that, “Even though her dad was a drunk, the way he drives—like a madman—actually inspires Jeanne with confidence to get past her fears of what life might be like outside of camp”. Growing up with all the racism remarks and surroundings was not easy and it has not been easy learning to remember and talk about her experience at the camp, but she overcame her fear. Jeanne has finally let it be free and be known. She now feels more better than ever about this. Also, even though Americans did not like Japanese she still married a
Just months after America’s entry into World War I, the construction division of the army was created in May 1917 to build sixteen National Guard camps in locations across the nation. (Haynes, 2010) On June 14, 1917, it was announced that Houston had been awarded a camp site for a division of the Illinois National Guard. The military installation, located on the northwest outskirts of the city was named Camp Logan.
...and end of the film, it is clear that there is a substantial amount of freedom within a summer camp, and it can be as good as you make it. The camp counselors are portrayed in two lights – one as adult kids who are irresponsible, and the opposing as dictators who never give you a break. This film also sets a standard for friendships, as the kids were willing to look out for each other and help one another.

The beautiful, natural setting for the VJG is seventy-two acres of land nestled in a hardwood forest. The camp is located in Randleman, North Carolina, approximately fifteen miles outside of Greensboro. Nestled in the foothills of the Piedmont Triad, this site offers a forest with several creeks and woodland streams running through the property. Richard Petty donated the land to VJG.
There were positive psychological impacts that effected the families as well as the nation. A lot of parents were stressed because they could not provide for their children, so most kids were abandoned or had to leave the house at a young age and try to find a job to help provide. This put stress on the parents as well as the children in the household. As Clifford Hammond said, “Right after high school-I graduated in 33-my dad pretty well ran me off. I hoboed and hitchhiked around, trying to find a job. You’d ride in a boxcar or whatever you could. I asked people if they had work to do if they’d give me something to eat.” In another quote, Hammond stated, “I’ve never they never would let me work. They’d always give me something to eat. I rode the trains, hoboed, for about a year. And then I decided I’d better go home. Too cold to be out like that. So that’s when I heard of the CCC.” The CCC helped young men grow to be happy within their job and life as well as their families. The men were able to provide relief for their families as well as themselves. When the men would go off to camp that would allow the parents to just provide for the other children and also still be stress free while their son was at camp because they knew that the CCC was a safe camp and they would be well taken care of there. The enrollees felt better after joining CCC because they had well prepared meals that some did not have

...rove Park Inn it is spectacular, it is warm and inviting. It beckons for you to come learn its history, walk on the same stones that some of the greats of our country have walked. On February 24, 1864 the first two hundred prisoners of Andersonville Prison arrived at the local train station. The prisoners were then led like cattle to the still unfinished pine stockade. When the prisoners entered the stockade they saw a large open area surrounded on three sides by a large pine wall. There were no shelters of any kind to protect the prisoners from the elements. The underbrush had also not been properly cleared out and there was still vegetation on the ground. The food was issued in small rations, and all food was raw. The cookhouse was still unfinished and there were no pots or pans to cook the rations, so the prisoners had to scavenge some firewood and use whatever implements they could find to cook their first meal(Roberts, 26).
The camp was surrounded by a meadow on one side which the campers used for different games of tag and Frisbee, a forest directly behind the cabins and nearby the lake there was a swamp which the campers were told to never approach.
