Sudden Change
For a sudden change in someone’s life, they must have gone through an experience that affected them deeply to the point where it caused them to change. A sudden change can be caused by the death of a loved one, realizing the impact you have on others or you, or knowing that someone cares about you.
The death by a loved one (or just death) can cause someone to change. In the text, “A Christmas Carol Scrooge and Marley”, three ghosts haunt Scrooge and inform him the path he is going down, and that he is going to die a miserly, grumpy man. Scrooge learns that if he does not shift his act the outcome will be unpleasant. After a time, the ghost of Christmas future shows Scrooge his grave, this scene was the turning point in which Scrooge changes his life and comes back as a cheerful man. When Scrooge saw his grave, it was basically the final push to change his life. Scrooge does twist his act, in response, he came back a new man, someone who enjoys life and sharing it with the people he can.

I myself can relate to this because my grandpa Darrell died, his death caused me to change significantly, his death also impacted me.
It made me realize that I don't have that much time left with my elders, so when I do have time with them I need to respect them. Plus I could learn from them because they probably have huge life lessons since they were a kid themselves. Because of his death, I now spend more time with my elders, since then I learned a lot from them. I changed, I know this because they taught me valuable life lessons. Also because you can change through talking with your elders, you may just learn a few ways out of wrong situations in life if you were to spend time with them. This just goes to show that you can change through being impacted and that there can be a good outcome from the impact of the death of a loved one, it may just help you, like it did Scrooge and
me. Knowing that someone cares about you is also life changing. It almost puts a shield around you that someone cares if something happens to you. In the text, “Thank you Ma’am”, a stranded boy tries to steal a woman’s purse, the woman grabs him and takes him to her house. She teaches this young boy lessons what’s right and what’s not. They boy learns from her, they create a bond. They both look out for each other and both care for one another. This shows that if you were to know that someone cared about you, you would feel better about yourself. Like in this story you might learn and change from it. I would feel safe knowing that I’m being watched by someone who cares about me. Because of this critical event now both of these people have formed more than just a bond, they both care for each other and look out for one another. Also, they would always be there for you, so when you need help you didn’t have to worry. This just goes to show that caring for one another can change each other in significant ways, as it did to this woman and boy. To conclude, this shows that change can be good. It may look or start out bad, but in the end, it may just help you, and cause a sudden change you.
Dickens displays guilt as the main form of how Scrooge’s character develops into a compassionate person by the end of the novella. As Scrooge feels this quilt, it's purely based on the visions that the ghosts provide which further causes Scrooge to realise the consequences of his actions. His alienation from specific characters that he used to love such as Belle, “...has displaced me…” whom left Scrooge, due to his desire for money and wealth which grew. This desire grows with him as he is rejecting the christmas joy and spirit as he continuously states that Christmas is a “humbug,” but by stating this it provides comparison. Dickens depicts that Scrooge has become a better person because of fear but in the end he has become kinder. As the

things to feel happy about in life. If we want to live a happy life,

Although he didn’t reach this point his business partner Jacob Marley did. When Marley died he had to wear a chain link for every bad deed he did. So his punishment was bearing the weight of his actions. Scrooge was also headed down this path but lucky for him Marley and the ghosts helped him to shun his path. The ghost of Christmas yet to come showed him the reaction of people when Scrooge was going to die. This was one of consequences, since he was mean and cold-hearted to everyone people seemed happy and joyous at the fact of his death. Some people said they would only go to his funeral if there was food and because they could wear their fancy black gloves. “It's likely to be a very cheap funeral,'' said the same speaker; ``for upon my life I don't know of anybody to go to it. Suppose we make up a party and volunteer?'' ``I don't mind going if a lunch is provided,'' observed the gentleman with the excrescence on his nose.” In the end though Scrooge was able to shun his path and started treating people kinder with more respect. His was able to change his attitude towards people from being rude and nasty to being kind and found that people liked him a lot better that
In this essay I will be talking about how Dickens presents Scrooge’s fear in A Christmas Carol. It is about how Scrooge’s change throughout the novel through various techniques Dickens uses to convey this.
In Conclusion, in the 1st Stave Dickens presents Scrooge as an evil, aged, prosperous man. As you read the Staves 2, 3 and 4, Scrooge’s behaviour, thoughts and attitude changes gradually. In Stave 2 a quote to show how shrude Scrooge is 'All he could make out was that it was still very foggy and extremely cold' this shows that Scrooge is an unpleasant ‘a covetous sinner’. This has an effect upon the reader as it shows how the cold weather can hurt and be distasteful to people just like Scrooge. Scrooge is described as the weather as he is like it; he hurts the people around him. Finally, in the 4th Stave he changes and he admits it, here is a quote “Spirit!'' he cried, tight clutching at its robe, “hear me! I am not the man I was.” This shows Scrooge is pleading that he has changed. I think he has transformed because of the experience he had by the four spirits.
At the beginning of the novel, Dickens presents Scrooge as an outsider by describing Scrooge as physically Cold hearted and unemotional person. This is seen in the quote, "A frosty rime was on his head, and on his eyebrows, and his wiry chin. He carried his own low temperature always about with him.". The words ‘frosty’ and ‘wiry’ shows the uses of adjectives and metaphor. Dickens uses these figurative techniques to emphasize to the reader how Scrooge has secluded his soul against society as a result of his own actions. Dickens uses dramatic irony here effectively to symbolise how the rich who are characterized as the construct Scrooge, who is presented as a gothic and supernatural being. This is ironic as the rich in Victorian society are
Throughout the play, A Christmas Carol, we learn that change begins simply. As stated by Robin Sharma, “Change is hard at first, messy in the middle, and gorgeous at the end.” Luckily Scrooge changed directly like what Robin Sharma’s quote stated. When he had the help of the three ghosts it was hard in the beginning, messy in the middle, and truly gorgeous at the end. Unfortunately, Scrooge believed that he will suffer too many hardships to change and became a stingy, greedy, and cold-hearted old man. Since Scrooge thought it was hard to change he didn’t think it was worth the time and effort to do it. Luckily for Scrooge, Past, Present, and Future helped him out so he could change. In conclusion moving forward Scrooge will transform into a new man, he keeps Christmas in his heart all year round and will spread love and joy to
Another way to show this is the way he talks to people, e.g. when his
The true description of Scrooge first appears about quarter way through the book, before then there are only a few minor references to his character. The description begins metaphorically as it features the words “ A tight-fisted hand at the grindstone”. Its metaphorical because it is trying to portray that Scrooge is literally as tight as the hand to the grindstone. Then soon after this seven adjectives follow, “ Squeezing, Wrenching, Grasping, Scraping, Clutching, Covetous, Old sinner”. They are used effectively as each one has an individual meaning describing seven trates of Scrooges character, which begins to give the reader a visual picture of how the character may conduct himself. So far all qualities of Scrooge have been negative and so it continues. Then the writer brings in the object “flint” and states all the negative quality’s of flint then compares them to Scrooge.
up by the sad event, but that he was an excellent man of business on
In summation the Novella A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, Ebenezer Scrooge was an unhappy man who was given the chance to change. The ghost that prompted this the most was the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come. The ghosts all showed us something different about Scrooge, but the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come was literally the final nail in the coffin of Scrooge’s humbuginess! In the end Scrooge was a changed man, who was more merry than could be. He never again question the spirit of
In this essay I am going to distinguish the personality of Scrooge also show you how he was at the beginning of the novella in the 1st Stave to how he changes at the end in the 5th Stave.
It helped me realize how I can escape this cycle of suffering and isolation. Even gave the lesson that sometimes life gives tough choices. The way you react and respond to those situations is one of the few things that define you as a human being. Will I just take it and give up, let the sadness consume me or will I remember the good times, like when I rode that dolphin.
