Striking Balance It's important for individuals to be able to maintain a balance between their relationships and personal desires. In the Truman Show, the author develops the idea that when an individual attempts to strike a balance between individuality and their relationships, they frequently struggle to keep things in balance, which leads to problems and forces them to make compromises to one or another. Through Truman's journey in a heavily controlled world, as shown in the film, it precisely depicts how when Truman tries to fend for freedom, it causes harm to his relationships creating conflict between them. Meryl’s and Truman’s views were shown to be quite opposite, as Meryl starts to prioritize the scripted reality, while Truman wants freedom and to be able to escape.In order for Truman to meet his desires and break free, he had to compromise his relationship with Meryl. This shows how when two different priorities clash, in order to maintain balance, you must lose something or make compromises. In order to discover your true reality, you must work smart and efficiently. In the Truman show, Truman’s goal was to find freedom and escape from all the lies, but in order to do so he needed to be able to work around it smartly so he doesn’t jeopardize his safety. However, to do so, it clashes with the show’s control. An example of Truman's desires clashing with the show is Sylvia. Despite the warning, Truman’s determination helps him uncover clues about Syvlia’s reality, but he must work carefully so he doesn't raise suspicion on the directors, which could lead to a dangerous atmosphere for him. An example is when he tries to sail away from his town to escape the show and flee to Fiji to find Sylvia, there was a huge storm which almost caused him to drown.
